00:00 "I've been on an island and…"
00:05 Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most notable TV shows
00:10 that debuted all the way back in 2004.
00:13 "Normally there's never anything newsworthy about my life, but that all changed last Thursday."
00:21 Number 10.
00:22 House Anyone who says that you need a friendly and
00:25 kind-hearted protagonist for a successful TV show has clearly never watched House.
00:30 "Your cousin doesn't like the diagnosis.
00:33 I wouldn't either.
00:34 Brain tumor.
00:35 She's gonna die.
00:36 Boring."
00:37 Dr. Gregory House was brilliantly performed by Hugh Laurie, but if he existed in real
00:44 life, he'd probably be one of your least favorite people.
00:48 He was annoyed by most humans and didn't trust anyone but himself.
00:52 "No."
00:53 "No is not an argument.
00:55 You trying to frustrate me?"
00:57 "No."
00:58 "No again?"
00:59 He also had a serious addiction to painkillers.
01:02 And yet, from the moment the show premiered in 2004, we all loved House, the character
01:07 and the show.
01:08 "Makes us equally wrong."
01:10 "No, makes us both wrong, not equally.
01:13 You were at least six wronger."
01:16 So did critics.
01:17 The show received 25 Emmy nominations over the course of its eight seasons, winning
01:22 five.
01:23 Number 9.
01:24 Pimp My Ride
01:25 "I feel the need for speed.
01:27 I'm about to pimp his ride."
01:31 This MTV hit hosted by Rapper Exhibit took people with run-down cars and gave them unbelievable
01:37 auto makeovers.
01:38 It's an admittedly simple premise, but one that quickly entered the zeitgeist, inspiring
01:43 the names of real-life business throughout the country.
01:47 "You gotta hit us up to get a pimped out ride."
01:55 Two years into the show's run, Viacom was already sending cease and desist letters to
01:59 multiple businesses using the "pimp my dot dot dot" phrasing.
02:04 Although the series has since received criticism from its participants over how real the "pimping
02:09 of their ride" was, it was an incredibly popular show in the mid-aughts.
02:12 "And now you're not gonna bleed your eyes when you see your brand new ride."
02:18 "Oh my god!"
02:21 Number 8.
02:22 Boston Legal
02:23 "To have the chance, my god, you and I to do this together, that would be everything."
02:35 Fans of The Practice might have been sad when the show ended in 2004, but while they were
02:39 losing a very good legal drama, they were about to get a great legal dramedy.
02:44 Boston Legal carried over a few characters from the final season of The Practice, and
02:49 set them in a different kind of show.
02:51 "We need to go to the woods and touch ourselves.
02:54 Get in touch with ourselves."
02:56 It still had all of the intense legal drama and emotional speeches that its predecessor
03:01 was known for, but it also added some welcome and witty levity to the mix.
03:05 "How did you get into that thing anyway?"
03:08 "A lot of Vaseline, and Chuck and word processing helped."
03:12 "Poor Chuck."
03:15 It also expanded on the relationship between James Fader's Alan Shore and William Shatner's
03:20 Denny Crane, making them one of TV's greatest duos.
03:25 Number 7.
03:26 Entourage
03:27 Mark Wahlberg was already a big star by 2004, and Entourage gave a peek into his world.
03:41 The show was conceived as a lighthearted, fictionalized take on the actor's rise in
03:45 Hollywood.
03:46 "Don't sign that Vince.
03:47 They screwed it up.
03:48 They got your eye color wrong."
03:49 "It's black and white."
03:51 "They look brown to me."
03:53 If you know anything about Wahlberg's past, the "lighthearted" bit here is particularly
03:58 important.
03:59 For eight seasons, the Marky Mark-inspired Vincent Chase and his gang did Hollywood like
04:04 only they could, and took on their own lives as characters separate from their real-world
04:09 inspiration.
04:10 Jeremy Piven became the show's standout star, earning praise from critics and fans
04:15 alike for his role as Vince's agent, Ari Gold.
04:18 "I'm gonna count to three.
04:21 One.
04:22 Two.
04:23 Three.
04:24 I apologize."
04:25 "I can't hear you."
04:26 "I said...I'm sorry."
04:29 Number 6.
04:30 Dog the Bounty Hunter
04:31 Who can forget that long blonde hair and those iconic sunglasses?
04:35 No, we're not talking about Pamela Anderson.
04:38 We're talking about Dwayne "Dog" Chapman, better known to the world as Dog the Bounty
04:43 Hunter.
04:44 "The big bad dog!
04:45 The bounty hunter!"
04:46 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:47 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:48 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:49 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:50 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:51 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:52 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:53 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:54 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:55 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:56 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:57 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:58 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
04:59 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:00 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:01 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:02 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:03 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:04 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:05 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:06 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:07 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:08 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:09 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:10 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:11 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:12 "Dog the Bounty Hunter!"
05:13 In the early days, Dog the Bounty Hunter took us into the lives of this loving and
05:16 volatile family, and we loved every second of it.
05:20 Yes, there was plenty of controversy, but it only helped to cement the show's place
05:24 in reality television history.
05:26 "Look at my eyes.
05:28 Bruh, the Lord sent me right to you today.
05:30 Justin, you see what you got?
05:32 The kind of bust God gave you?"
05:35 Number 5.
05:36 The L Word
05:37 It might seem crazy now, but in its day, the L Word was groundbreaking.
05:41 "Yeah, there's a scientist at the National Enquirer who says that if your ring finger
05:46 is longer than your index finger, it means you're a lesbian."
05:49 The first recurring lesbian character made her debut in 1987 on Hill Street Blues, but
05:55 Ellen's now-iconic Coming Out episode still met major backlash ten years later.
06:01 By 2004, lesbian and bisexual women still were not represented on TV in any real meaningful
06:07 way, until the L Word.
06:09 "You know me and your sister, we had a little talk.
06:12 She's a very interesting lady."
06:13 "Did she tell me that she was into women?"
06:16 "Yeah, that's one of the things we have in common."
06:19 This series set out to change the status quo with an ensemble cast of bisexual and lesbian
06:24 characters.
06:25 It was uncompromising in its portrayal of lesbian sex, and regularly tackled controversial
06:31 topics relevant to the LGBTQ+ community.
06:33 "I never decided to become a lesbian, but I decided to join the service."
06:40 Though it wasn't always perfect in its handling of sensitive subjects, fans appreciated its
06:45 refreshing depiction of a reality never before seen on the small screen.
06:50 4.
06:51 Desperate Housewives
06:52 Yes, it's really been 20 years since we were all introduced to the women of Wisteria Lane.
06:58 "What kind of problems could she have had?
07:01 She was healthy, had a great home, a nice family.
07:03 Her life was our life."
07:05 This show started off with a bang, and for eight seasons, we followed along as one mystery
07:11 after another unfolded in the fictional town of Fairview.
07:14 Births, deaths, affairs, murders, kidnapping… there was always some kind of juicy drama
07:19 to keep us glued to our televisions week after week.
07:23 "What are you talking about?"
07:24 "I found out Porter's been hooking up with some girl at our warehouse.
07:27 What are you talking about?"
07:29 Desperate Housewives remained incredibly popular throughout its run, no mean feat for such
07:35 a long-running show.
07:36 In fact, along with Grey's Anatomy and Lost, it helped turn around the fortunes of the
07:41 ABC network.
07:42 "Alright ladies, lift him up.
07:44 To Mary Alice, a good friend and neighbor."
07:47 3.
07:48 Deadwood
07:49 Shows that get canceled after just three seasons don't usually go down in history as among
07:54 the best television shows ever made.
07:56 But that's exactly the case with Deadwood.
07:59 "Boom!
08:00 And did I not come through a treat?"
08:03 All three seasons of this western were met with universal acclaim.
08:07 The Writers Guild of America even called it the 32nd best written TV series ever.
08:13 Besides its brilliant writing and acting, the series is also well-remembered for its
08:17 use of profanity.
08:18 "Oh Jesus Christ almighty, you get in a mood like this and I just as soon as… not
08:23 even for scoffing."
08:24 Some might even say excessive use of profanity.
08:27 We're talking a total of 2,980 F-bombs alone throughout the show's run, an average of
08:34 1.56 per minute.
08:36 "I get tapped, f---ing darling."
08:39 2.
08:40 Lost
08:41 While Lost fans may disagree about the quality of the finale, we think everyone can agree
08:45 that many of the 120 episodes leading up to it were some of the best on TV.
08:50 "I don't know where I am, but I'll find you, Jess.
08:51 I promise.
08:52 No matter what.
08:53 I'll come back to you.
08:54 I won't give up.
08:55 I promise.
08:56 I love you.
08:57 I love you."
08:58 Lost was smart, engaging, original, and enjoyably confusing.
09:03 With flashbacks and flash-forwards, the series built up its characters and the mysteries
09:08 surrounding them beautifully, making it a must-watch from the moment it premiered in
09:13 2004 till its controversial finale in 2010.
09:16 "I'm missing all my shows.
09:18 Lost."
09:19 "Oh, last week?
09:20 You know that guy they killed off the previous week?"
09:22 "Alright, don't tell me.
09:23 I don't want to know."
09:24 "He's not dead.
09:25 He's back.
09:26 He came back."
09:27 Mystery Hatches, Smoke Monsters, The Others, and the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 were
09:35 all a part of the public conversation for years.
09:39 This show had us all pushing the button on our remote controls to watch ABC every night
09:44 it aired.

10:01 Number 1.
10:02 Project Runway
10:03 While every show on this list premiered in 2004, only one is lucky enough to be celebrating
10:09 its 20th birthday while still on the air.
10:12 "This is Project Runway."
10:17 That's right, 20 seasons in and still going strong.
10:21 Project Runway has been our go-to fashion-forward reality design competition for two full decades.
10:27 It's made industry stars out of its winners and kept us coming back for more fashion and
10:32 more drama every single year.
10:34 "I'm really just fed up.
10:36 I mean, I just want to ask, what is the f***ing point?"
10:41 The series is so popular that it even spawned its own Wii game and a number of spin-offs
10:47 around the world.
10:48 There's no question this international sensation knows how to make it work.
10:52 "This is from a jacket that April ended up having to give me that she loves.
10:57 I'm gonna make it work, 'cause that's what we're supposed to do."
11:01 Which of these series' birthdays will you be celebrating the hardest?
