00:07 - I'm Jean-Michel Paul from Team Tigers of the Desert,
00:10 supported by Airbus.
00:11 My role is to be the coordinator of the project
00:14 and also driver of the car.
00:15 (dramatic music)
00:18 All the parts that are used on this buggy
00:26 have been designed in our different centers at Airbus.
00:30 Mechanical parts, structure, and electrics.
00:34 But also internationally, because some parts of this vehicle
00:37 come from our Airbus company in Germany and in Spain.
00:41 Airbus is also a big international family.
00:45 I believe that we're at a period
00:51 when all industries think of what the future will look like.
00:54 And the whole team can see
00:56 that Dakar Future Mission 1000 is the perfect terrain
01:01 to test in terms of range, difficulty, and performance.
01:06 It has all the ingredients to test these new vehicles
01:11 that prepare tomorrow.
01:13 (dramatic music)
01:18 We made this choice because we believe it's the good one.
01:23 And that's mixing electric energy,
01:26 thanks to a battery.
01:28 And that allows us to have a hybrid system
01:30 linking an electric engine and a combustion engine.
01:37 And we will be using a new energy, which is bioethanol.
01:43 That's the choice we made,
01:49 and we want to test this technology
01:52 that allows us to reduce by 90% our carbon footprint,
01:57 which is huge.
01:59 We managed the first big step to go
02:01 and reach that last percentage.
02:04 We still need time and work.
02:07 We have a first basic mode, which is full electric.
02:19 And that will allow us to travel in the urban areas
02:23 out of respect for the cities we go through.
02:26 But also in the bivouacs.
02:29 We then have a basic hybrid function,
02:33 meaning that when we accelerate,
02:34 we use both the electric and combustion engines.
02:38 And that enables us to have much more torque.
02:41 And when we don't push too hard in the rolling parts,
02:46 the same engine can charge the battery.
02:49 We made that choice because it allows us
02:51 to have a same system that charges and propels the vehicle.
