00:00 Rick and Morty Infinity Hour Issue 1.
00:03 At first, it doesn't have Rick in it, so that's kinda boring.
00:06 As it starts with spaceships flying over Planet Squanch.
00:10 Thankfully, it has comedy to make up for the dark premise because one of the invaders trips because of his new legs.
00:16 And someone says that's the third time today while calling it by a normal name.
00:21 His boss is mad enough to tell him that if he trips again, he'll have to enter a specific security code to get into an escape pod.
00:28 Because he said the security code out loud, a scared native of the planet hears it.
00:35 Then some of the invaders humanize themselves by complaining that they're bored and never get a break and their empire is evil.
00:41 No explanation for why they don't get other jobs though.
00:45 They're too humanized because one of them says he's definitely not saying they should stop having those battles and even stupidly wasting perfectly good planets in the process.
00:54 Someone enters the security code to escape via an escape pod, and it's indirectly explained who that alien was. A spy.
01:02 Then a young Rick wearing a NASA pin somehow expects me to believe he's thrown some duds their way.
01:09 He shows them a toaster and holds burnt toast saying that they told him to design a new consumer device that offered something nobody else could that had to solve a problem.
01:19 He says that with the power of nanotech, he can make a de-toaster when nobody would want that.
01:26 Sadly, the toast is wet somehow, ruining the invention.
01:31 So I'm wondering why he's smiling and why he's unhappy when walking away fired.
01:35 Because someone as smart as Rick would never make a useless invention.
01:39 At least it's interesting to finally see him come home to a baby Beth with his wife having dialogue.
01:46 And we're actually able to see her face.
01:49 He replies sarcastically when she tells him to have a good day at work, which should make it clear to her that he's not going to work.
01:57 And then he sees an alien trying to hitchhike and not even trying to hide that he's an alien.
02:02 I guess everyone assumes he's a cosplayer.
02:05 He must've assumed Earth was one of the planets where aliens are considered normal, because most of the planets he goes to are like that.
02:13 He happily asks if he's an alien.
02:16 The alien says his whole galaxy depends on him making it to a suburb.
02:20 It takes a bit too long to get to the point where he tells Rick he's a freedom fighter looking for an exiled ancient warrior.
02:27 It gets boring as he talks too much before eventually saying in front of a person answering a door that he's looking for a bird person.
02:34 The person eventually recognizes him by the name of Larry, as I'm just thinking that I don't like that this is pretending the bird person issue was never released,
02:42 when this couldn't be a better explanation for how he met him.
02:45 But I can always think of this as an alternate universe from that one.
02:49 The woman says bird person wasn't seen in years because of angry moths and she was his wife.
02:55 Then alien invaders kick down her door.
02:57 She's totally surprised when she gets vaporized.
03:01 One of the invaders gets humanized by complaining about him doing this and saying that this is going to be a lot of paperwork.
03:09 This gives Rick plenty of time to escape.
03:12 So they got her killed just by coming here.
03:15 The two go to McDonald's and Webbo shows Rick a hologram of a Death Star.
03:19 If you make a story too unoriginal, it makes it kind of pointless.
03:24 Rick says confidently that a place everyone ends up eventually is New York City.
03:29 Yeah, right. He's just making an excuse to go there.
03:33 Lucky for him, Webbo enjoys sightseeing there, even though it's a waste of time.
03:38 Eventually, some alien invaders grab Rick and Webbo while somehow the humans behind them are amused.
03:46 And they get thrown in front of what looks like a robot,
03:49 who reveals that he knows there's infinite other Ricks and taunts him as being nothing because of it.
03:54 Because the bad guy reaches for Webbo, Rick is able to punch him and shoot a ray gun.
04:01 While Rick is the only one who talks like this, I assume it's not Rick because that would be way too obvious of a plot twist.
04:08 Eventually, the bad guy takes the ray gun away from an invader, who humanizes himself again by saying he got that from his dad.
04:16 And the bad guy surprises me by saying, "And I'm sure he's very proud of you for being a nameless goon."
04:22 Why would he think of his own invading soldiers as goons?
04:26 His attempt to shoot Rick just has him shoot all the other invaders.
04:30 Rick ends up getting the ray gun, looks like an idiot by not simply shooting him right away, which he does to all of his enemies.
04:38 And the bad guy calls himself Dr. Infinity and says he can't be beaten, even though he's got a ray gun pointed at him.
04:45 And then they leave the building and see Bird Person, who says he wishes he was able to locate them before Dr. Infinity.
04:53 Diane tells Rick he has a problem because he's already drunk, even though the sky makes it clear that it's night right now.
04:59 He has a problem for drinking at all, but the time of day is hardly the problem.
05:04 He makes an excuse that he just wanted to relax after a hard day, and she walks away, disapproving of him.
05:10 Bird Person says it's convenient Bird Sense has detected an Alliance spacecraft they should have remained with.
05:17 His dialogue is really boring. He's overly serious and talks in big words like a robot.
05:23 He sits beside Rick on the roof to try to comfort him because his friendship would benefit him.
05:29 That's just an excuse, because comforting him wouldn't benefit him.
05:33 Bird Person should know that Rick did mean the sentient beings in the galaxy when he asked if the galaxy was really doomed.
05:40 He says none of this matters way too easily in response to being told something he already knows.
05:45 Bird Person says that sentient life like Rick's family makes the universe better,
05:50 and surprisingly tells him he's not recruiting him even though he's an inventor, so that's dumb.
05:56 His speech causes Rick to apologize to his family and promise he'll be back, and say he's doing this for her.
06:03 If he really wanted them to know he said this, he'd write a note with this on it and leave it here.
06:09 Why is he wasting his time?
06:11 Rick and Morty Infinity Hour #2
06:15 After the Ghira world gets covered with pink spray that I guess brainwashes the people there,
06:20 someone bickers with his friend about how to repair the spaceship that somehow got crashed into the moon in 5 minutes.
06:27 Rick doesn't trust Weble to repair the ship because he's screwed up, and Weble somehow doubts that Rick's a genius.
06:35 Then a spacecraft lands near them, and they get greeted by a Gromflamite and another alien that Bird Person called up to save them.
06:43 Bird Person explains that he let Rick waste his time trying to repair the spaceship because he didn't know if help would arrive, and he trusted him to get it fixed.
06:53 The Gromflamite reveals that it's Crumbopolis Michael, which is a relief because his cheerful attitude was necessary to try to liven up the story.
07:02 Rick should know better than to waste time asking if the alien nearby is a dog person when it's already obvious.
07:09 While Weble is trying to give him exposition on the flagship of Dr. Infinity, Bird Person tells Rick he should pay attention because this kind of exposition could be needed to free people from oppression.
07:21 Although he at least admits Rick might have a good point.
07:24 Weble says the flagship with a stupid name is tracking them, and Rick decides to leave with Mike out of boredom. I don't blame him.
07:33 Weble states the obvious that the flagship is brainwashing everyone, and he complains about Oodle glaring at him for no reason, like he's only being a silent jerk to foreshadow being a traitor.
07:43 It would be pretty interesting if he didn't turn out to be a traitor.
07:47 After Dr. Infinity predictably turns out to be still alive, as if he's Roborobotnik, he wastes time with boring, redundant dialogue before getting told that he's needed to authorize a new sewage system.
07:59 Bird Person gets disappointed at seeing Rick drunk, even though Rick had nothing to actually do at the moment, so of course he wanted to unwind with a friend of his.
08:09 Bird Person really is being a buzzkill, making me wonder why he thought of him as a friend, even if he's right that Rick's have tons of potential.
08:19 Rick passes out, and then I'm somehow expecting to believe Bird Person hasn't moved in the seven hours he's been asleep.
08:27 Rick gets told off that not caring puts his family in danger, but if he didn't care, why would he have gone with them? He said he was doing this for them.
08:37 It turns out the Grom Fomite weapon reminding me of the hivemind Unity was intentional because it literally is Unity, which gets me excited to see her interact with Rick again.
08:47 Sometimes the pacing is too slow in this story.
08:50 Their spaceship gets attacked, and Mike sees the invaders drinking his booze. Rick reassures him that he could always get more.
08:58 Rick hopes there's anything on the ship made of nanites or programmable matter. A memorable way of using how smart he is.
09:06 I just wish that Uncle Chuck was this cool.
09:09 Mike asks Rick to remind them what's going on, and he makes an overly-met excuse because he's crazy, even though he's not crazy in that way.
09:17 Rick says what was closed were made of unstable particles, a kind of basic nanite fiber that he modified into an edible solution that lets him control the invaders with a controller.
09:29 Rick had every reason to lampshade that these guys were idiots for drinking the drinks because they could've been poisoned.
09:35 So the invaders get made to destroy each other. I guess he didn't actually have poison, so that's why he didn't do the simple thing.
09:43 Although I can totally understand him wanting to show off. Somehow one of them always knew this would happen to them. And somehow Mike looks worried.
09:52 We see the bad guys in front of the other invaders being controlled into kissing, with one of them saying they're not doing this and asking for help.
10:00 Not that anyone would believe him with no explanation. At least if they don't know this kind of technology exists.
10:07 But then Rick's spaceship gets crashed into a force field, and the story ends with Rick being threatened by invaders anyways.
10:15 So it's a good thing the resolution of the previous scene was interesting enough to be worth it.
10:20 Rick and Morty Infinity Hour #3
10:23 Rick and his friends let themselves get captured, and Webbo wastes time whining that he won't get home to his wife before Rick lampshades his whining being annoying and shoots with a ray gun.
10:34 That somehow wasn't found and confiscated already. Well if they tried to confiscate it, he would have shot him with it.
10:41 I guess they knew they had weapons, but assumed they wouldn't be able to escape with the weapons.
10:47 So they thought it was safer to just shove them into a prison cell and close it before they could get attacked.
10:52 How were they expecting to feed them? I guess they weren't expecting to feed them.
10:57 So he's able to shoot away the force field. I guess he thought it was better to just wait until he's sent into the cell because then the only person they would have to deal with would be that guy, and he'd be completely unprepared for an attack.
11:12 So that's why he waited so long to use this thing.
11:15 The guard gets humanized for a bit by enjoying listening to a song.
11:19 Eventually we see that the rebels started wearing guard outfits as a disguise, but this would only be a good disguise if the Gromphomites were already in the habit of employing people of their species, which they're not when it comes to humans.
11:32 Rick would still need a rubber mask. I have to assume it's thanks to Mike that they got access to all these disguises.
11:39 Also, isn't it convenient that all of them have uniforms that fit? You'd think that small uniforms would have to be custom ordered.
11:49 Rick wants to pull up the ship's layout, and Mike says his people don't have the short-term memory capacity to use those.
11:57 So they put their hands on waylights and summon a subway to get them around places.
12:03 There's a guard that's human enough to be reading a magazine with his feet up, and Rick tells him he needs the layout of the ship because they're an off-the-book squad to look for some loose prisoners.
12:14 This guy gets confused because he used the name of a squad that was already killed.
12:19 I wonder if Rick's basing this off the A-Team.
12:22 The guard wants to make a call, but Udo glares at him, and he ends up tied up, and boasting that Rick will never get past their convoluted security system.
12:32 So does it make sense that they immediately had something to tie him up with?
12:36 I like that Webbo tells him to leave Rick alone. Rick's fine up to already know future slang.
12:42 It's not because he knows it. It's because he just somehow assumes it'll be used.
12:47 The guard says only he knows how to navigate the computer.
12:51 He brags in an overly hammy way, and fortunately this is mocked right away instead of the comic being like a kid's comic with no self-awareness that takes its villains too seriously.
13:01 He looks sad and says he doesn't have a lot going on in his life.
13:05 Rick tells him to get into the computer or else, and Paige is wasted in an amusing way where he tries to scoot his chair over to him tied up, and Rick tells him to just untie him because he's impatient.
13:19 Eventually, they see a projection of the stupidly named ripoff of the Death Star.
13:24 Then Dr. Infinity inconveniently shows up in the room when I wouldn't expect him to know to go here, and you'd think he'd be way too busy.
13:32 Rick does some more cathartic mockery of him, and his gun gets telekinetically taken away, which would have not happened if Rick had the good sense to shoot him right away instead of wasting time mocking him.
13:42 I wonder if Rick could give himself telekinesis. It makes sense that he's arrogant enough to think he doesn't need it.
13:49 Dr. Infinity explains why the ripoff Death Star is a silly name. It was designed by a Rick.
13:56 After too long, Dr. Infinity shoots to trap Rick and his friends in a force field, but Birdperson is somehow dumb enough to waste time telling him that he wasn't trapped with them, rather than taking action.
14:10 So all that happens is he gets hit. What a waste of time.
14:14 Webo states the obvious, which is just gonna distract Rick when he's working on escaping and they aren't, so Rick has every reason to snap at him.
14:22 Rick tells Oodle to help him rip a hole in the floor and pull out the wires.
14:27 And eventually, Webo ends up saving Birdperson in power armor made out of the floor, and Birdperson gets carried while being walked away.
14:36 Birdperson doesn't like the idea of leaving Webo behind, but it doesn't matter as pretty soon Rick and his friends escape.
14:43 Birdperson points out that Rick clearly cared about him or he wouldn't be upset, and he puts his hand on Rick's shoulder and comforts him by saying that he knew how lame he was and gets thanked for it.
14:54 Then Rick walks on some metal floor, and Mike must be joking when he says they're in a nature area.
14:59 I don't like that they talk as if there's literally no actual nature areas on the whole planet.
15:05 Birdperson thanks the High Commander Squancha for being happy to see him.
15:10 We really didn't need to see that Rick's house got attacked for no reason.
15:14 It doesn't add anything to the overall narrative. Rick's never gonna find out in the story arc, so it's literally just there for the shock value.
15:23 Also, if Rick was really smart at this point, he would've cared enough to give his family Operation Phoenix.
15:29 Then it's confirmed by his different Naboo that the Rick we were following in the story is a different one from the Rick of the show, though that was already obvious.
15:38 Rick and Morty Infinity Hour #4.
15:41 Dr. Infinity wastes time bragging like a generic villain and gets reminded of the sewage problem, and says "Don't we have people for that? How's that my concern?
15:51 Why would he say that? Didn't he consolidate all power in him? That's the problem with that.
15:57 Why would he have this job if he doesn't want it? Why do you think he wanted this job in the first place?"
16:04 He ends up slipping and taking a lethal fall against something, and the Grunt says that's the third time this month.
16:10 I love that he dies to something completely petty. It's satisfying that he calls him an idiot before he uses the lever to freeze Clone.
16:18 So it looks like Operation Phoenix, so it's probably a Rick, meaning he was insulting himself by saying that Rick is meaningless.
16:25 So that makes less sense than him not being a Rick.
16:28 Him saying that Rick is meaningless for being just one out of infinite Ricks is the exact reason why most Ricks aren't like Dr. Infinity.
16:37 Because he should know that having big time evil plans is pointless then.
16:42 Bird Person has a bunch of boring dialogue with people about the not-death star.
16:47 Rick presses a button and calls the thing a brain, because it's snaked with systems structured like neural pathways.
16:54 He figures out it's a mind killer while smirking as if he's somehow okay with it.
16:59 I don't see anything that looks like a brain part on there.
17:02 It's good that he's called out on for being so arrogant and condescending for no reason to his friends.
17:08 After some padding, we see that the heroes each have their own spaceship for the not-death star.
17:13 As if the comic didn't rip off Star Wars enough.
17:17 Eventually, Wubbles' ghost tells Rick that he's not following the plan and nobody's protecting him.
17:24 Rick ejects himself confidently and aims his ray gun.
17:28 And then he ends up entering the not-death star through a convenient hole that's a thing for no explained reason.
17:34 What makes the comic think I care about any of the panels not involving Rick?
17:38 If they don't have comedy, they don't matter.
17:41 Rick pities someone unconscious and gets taunted by Dr. Infinity.
17:45 I guess that unconscious person was Unity.
17:47 Why is Rick wasting time talking to him when he could instantly shoot him before he go-figure sends his blaster to him again?
17:54 He has no problem instantly shooting all of the other enemies he's had.
17:58 If it's that he subconsciously recognizes his voice as Rick's voice, you'd think he would recognize it consciously too.
18:05 Assume that he's disguising his voice, because otherwise he would have instantly recognized him as Rick.
18:11 But why would he even care about not being found out as Rick?
18:16 Rick avoids his lightsaber, so it gets stuck in the wall.
18:19 Dr. Infinity questions why he's even here, because Rick hates people.
18:23 Rick says he doesn't hate them that much, and he doesn't explain that he's on the adventure to have fun.
18:29 And eventually he finally shuts him up by hitting him.
18:32 Dr. Infinity brags that he's trying to create the mind of a god by making a lot of people be one, without explaining why he's even bothering him.
18:39 He knows it can only affect a tiny part of the multiverse.
18:42 I don't know why this guy wastes time doing that bragging.
18:46 You'd think it'd be good enough for him to say something once.
18:50 Rick shocks him with a wire, and I'm wondering why he isn't doing it some more as he tells Rick that hundreds of cloned bodies here on Unity Station await his data.
18:59 Rick shoots him, and days later, Bird Person says he doesn't know what caused the explosion of the space station.
19:06 Unless it's somehow the fact that the girl was rescued, I don't get it either.
19:10 I would've thought that the destruction of the space station was their entire plan.
19:15 Eventually, an escape pod crashes with Rick bragging that he destroyed it, and he asks for food because he was waiting for its orbit to decay for a week.
19:25 Then we see someone on a throne wonder whose idea it was to build a mind control device instead of a giant laser.
19:31 But that idea was better instead of wasting perfectly good workers and planets.
19:36 Rather than realizing that the space station would've been blown up no matter what it was built for, he says he never should've trusted anyone with an obvious villain name like Dr. Infinity.
19:47 Sadly, the story ends with Dr. Infinity still being around, threatening him.
19:52 You'd think any Rick would be too bored by administration to try to do it.
19:56 Why have him survive when it just undermines Rick's victory, making the whole arc pointless, and they aren't even sure if they'll get a sequel?
20:04 I don't want a sequel to something that just rips off another franchise.
20:08 This was by Magdalene Visagium.
20:11 It's too bad it was a Star Wars ripoff, so I'm glad for any originality it had.
20:16 Like not having a traitor, and not having a forest moon full of Ewoks.
20:22 Rick was impressive by making brainwashing juice and power armor in seconds.
20:27 Though I don't know how he was so fast.
20:29 As usual for Rick and Morty, sometimes it was too dark for its own good.
20:34 I always hate seeing gore.
20:37 It was only tolerable when it was with a weird-looking alien like a Gromphomite.
20:42 But for the most part, my only complaint with it was that it needed faster pacing because some of the panels were pointless to experience.
20:49 And that's a problem with every story that goes on too long.
20:53 I'm glad Rick got to destroy a gas star like a hero.
20:57 But Dr. Infinity could have easily not been another Rick because it means it makes even less sense that he taunted Rick for being one of Infinite Ricks.
21:05 And it makes no sense that he had his plan.
21:08 Surely Ricks aren't the only individual ever capable of making Operation Phoenix.
21:13 He could have been immortal because he got transferred to other robot bodies like Roborobotnik.
21:19 So I wasn't thinking in such metalogic that I instantly assumed it was him.
21:24 Because it was such an obvious twist that there was no point even hiding it.
21:29 He was just an annoying, boring character.
21:32 But I don't really think this arc is bad.
21:34 I like that it kept having some levity by humanizing the invaders and making a joke out of them.
21:40 I remember the arc is too depressing.
21:43 But it's just comedic and engaging enough.
21:45 And Rick is competent enough.
21:47 [MUSIC PLAYING]
