00:00 Drivers in and around Bristol will have seven national highway road closures to watch out
00:09 for this week. The latest expected works list with notes from National Highways shows that
00:15 seven closures are due over the next two weeks. But have locals been impacted or seen delays
00:22 due to road closures or road work so far this year?
00:27 It is disgusting. Shutting off main roads and loads of things like that over there.
00:32 All day's pensioners, nowhere to walk down. Doctors are nothing.
00:38 Yeah, because my hubby drives me, but it's like for instance when we went down to Westbury
00:43 and they closed Falkendale off, that caused such a nightmare. And then they were doing
00:47 something on Lower Noel Lane as well, so it just made everything a nightmare. And then
00:53 they closed that road off and they've closed this one off.
00:57 The major road works include the M5 northbound junction 19 to 18 which will see lane closures
01:03 for structural maintenance until January 19th. The M5 southbound will see lane closures until
01:10 the same date for structural maintenance which is said to cause delays of around 10 minutes.
01:16 The M32 southbound and northbound will see one to two lane closures for electrical works
01:21 until January 18th. National Highways is responsible for the maintenance of motorways and major
01:28 A roads, so closures of small roads will not be included in their schedule. But the Bristol
01:34 City Council website via network shows smaller road closures and road works around the city.
01:42 Let's visit them. So I am here just by the Glencoin Square which
01:46 has been closed since the start of November and is not due to open until the 2nd of February.
01:52 The closure of the road has caused indefinite delays for locals visiting the village shopping
01:57 areas. The main road down the bottom, buses, two
02:01 don't come along here no more because it's been diverted and for all days pensioners
02:06 like I said, it's a murder. I had to walk out the Lanarkos road to get a two the other
02:10 week. I wasn't very happy about it. I am here on Greystoke Avenue in North Bristol
02:15 which has been closed from the 3rd of January and is not expected to open until the 28th
02:21 of January for street works. The closure allows locals access to Port Elizabeth House and
02:27 access to 9 to 29 Greystoke Avenue but has caused a large build up of traffic on Southmead
02:34 Road and Falkendale Road due to the road closure. Multiple diversions are signposted in the
02:40 surrounding areas. It's just the extra time it takes you to
02:46 plan a route, you know, just to do something like shopping, something simple like that.
02:52 But why they had to do it all at once, I don't know. It's just a nightmare.
02:57 Only time will tell the impact of the current road closures of the city of Bristol.
