00:00 Working from home has become increasingly accepted by companies in the ACT.
00:05 Managers are saying they want to be more flexible and accommodate their employees' preferences and personal commitments.
00:11 While there are still some doubts about what remote working for more than a few days a week will mean for a business and its employee,
00:19 here's what some private companies have to say about the trend this year.
00:23 I think working from home is definitely here to stay in 2024, but I think that needs to be individualised to the employee.
00:32 And I think that it is very much culture-led as to whether people decide they want to come into the office or not.
00:39 I think that the future of working Canberra is giving people the flexibility to choose where they would like to work,
00:46 rather than mandating exactly what the best way is for them to do their jobs.
00:51 We find that with the staff that we have, that when they need to do periods of focus, that it's better for them to work from home.
00:58 And when they need to do periods of collaboration, or when they need to get the context for the deliverables, that it's better to be working in person.
01:07 If your role includes duties that can be done from home, and it's something you want to do, but it's not the norm in your workplace,
01:14 here are some tips from experts that could help you start the conversation.
01:19 Have a look at your job description, your contract or enterprise agreement.
01:24 These documents may mention any provisions for working from home.
01:28 If you're a great employee who delivers results, it will be hard to say no, especially if you have evidence of this.
01:35 Let your manager know how you plan to work from home, and whether you need half days every other day or once a month off to work remotely.
01:43 Mentioning how other businesses in your industry have approached flexible working could also help strengthen your case.
