00:00 Welcome to MsMojo and today we'll be taking a trip down memory lane and counting down
00:13 our picks for the most acclaimed and culturally significant movies that were released in the
00:19 year 2004. Number 10. 50 First Dates. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have collaborated
00:41 on a few projects throughout the years and we love watching them play opposite one another
00:47 on our screens. In their second film together, Sandler plays Henry, a charming playboy who
00:53 falls in love with Barrymore's Lucy, an art teacher with short-term memory loss.
00:58 Despite their respective challenges, the love story between the two characters unfolds with
01:14 a timeless charm that continues to captivate audiences years later. Even today, Sandler
01:21 and Barrymore still dazzle us in comedies, on talk shows, and occasionally in dramas,
01:27 but this film stands out as a quintessential piece in both of their repertoires.
01:33 Number 9. 13 Going on 30. Is there a more lovable character than Jenna Rink,
01:58 with her childlike wonder and innocent view of life? When she unexpectedly wakes up to find
02:04 herself 17 years older, she takes action to turn her life around. Jenna shows us that our
02:10 preconceived notions of an ideal life may not be as fulfilling as we imagine, and it's a sentiment
02:17 that resonates across the generations. Luckily, reconnecting with her roots, and more importantly,
02:36 with her childhood sweetheart Matty, gets her back on the right path. Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer
02:42 Garner deliver iconic and engaging performances, making this film an instant go-to whenever we
02:49 need a little reminder of the important things in life. Number 8. Anchorman - The Legend of
03:04 Ron Burgundy. This film may have been set in the 1970s and released in the early 2000s,
03:10 but it's just as funny in the 2020s as ever. Anchorman revolves around a group of egotistical
03:27 men in the world of broadcast news, whose lives get rocked when a newswoman joins their team.
03:34 It boasts a hilarious cast, including Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell,
03:40 and Paul Rudd, all in the prime of their comedy careers. It's a preview of what's to come,
04:01 as these actors have kept us in stitches long after this movie's release,
04:06 including in the sequel Anchorman 2 - The Legend Continues. With iconic one-liners and
04:12 extremely quotable characters, it's hard to not be obsessed with this comedic masterpiece.
04:24 Number 7. Ray. Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all time,
04:39 the story of Ray Charles' life had not received an in-depth cinematic exploration
04:44 until this 2004 film came along. Charles was a trailblazer in music, who expertly fused
04:52 different genres while grappling with substance use disorder and racism in the mid-20th century.
04:58 In the film, Jamie Foxx does a brilliant job at humanizing and paying homage to Charles
05:04 with a performance that garnered him a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actor.
05:17 It's no wonder Ray is considered a modern classic and a must-see for all music lovers.
05:23 The film also serves as a fitting tribute to Charles,
05:27 who sadly passed away the same year it was released.
05:39 Number 6. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Jim Carrey isn't exactly known for his dramatic
05:50 roles, but he has undoubtedly proven himself as a force to be reckoned with in that capacity,
05:57 and this film is no exception. Carrey stars opposite Kate Winslet as Joel and Clementine,
06:03 two former lovers who try to expunge each other from their memories.
06:07 "What if you stayed this time?"
06:08 "I walked out the door. There's no memory left."
06:16 "Come back and make up a goodbye at least. Let's pretend we had one."
06:21 Heartbreaking and invigorating all at once, the film is enhanced by its science fiction elements,
06:27 which lend it a timeless and otherworldly quality. Complete with an all-star cast and one of the most
06:34 unique plots in the history of cinema, it's hard to believe that 20 years have passed
06:40 since this film first graced our screens.
07:02 Number 5. Before Sunset.
07:05 "It's funny because I read an article on your book and it sounded vaguely familiar."
07:10 "Vaguely?"
07:10 "Yeah, but I didn't put it all together until I saw your photo."
07:15 The second film in the Before series was released nine years after the first,
07:21 right when audiences were anxious to hear what became of Celine and Jesse's romance.
07:26 Despite our hopes for a rekindled connection, the movie reveals that their lives did not
07:32 unfold as we would have imagined after the first film.
07:35 In this instalment, Celine and Jesse's separate paths converge nearly a decade after they promised
07:53 to reunite, leaving us with that same hopeful feeling as they appear to abandon their lives
07:59 to pursue each other once again.
08:02 Luckily, in the 20 years since, we've been given a conclusion to their love story
08:07 in the form of a third film, Before Midnight.
08:10 Number 4. The Notebook.
08:22 "I want all of you forever, you and me, every day."
08:26 There are few 21st century love stories as iconic as this one.
08:32 Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling's performances broke our hearts and then put them back together
08:38 again in this romantic movie about star-crossed lovers in the 1940s.
08:43 Who could forget their heartwarming declarations of love in the rain?
08:47 "It wasn't over. It still isn't over."
08:54 The Notebook is not just a film, but a testament to the power of young love,
09:00 and a hallmark adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' works.
09:03 Both lead actors went on to have exemplary careers in the years that followed,
09:08 with McAdams' breakthrough role coming in the same year.
09:12 More on that later.
09:13 While some may think the movie hasn't aged well,
09:16 we think it's aged as well as Noah and Ali's love.
09:21 "Now say you're a bird too."
09:22 "If you're a bird, I'm a bird."
09:26 Number 3. The Incredibles.
09:30 With a plethora of superhero movies to choose from in the 2020s,
09:35 it's important to recognise those that have truly stood out.
09:38 "It's a whole family of supers! Looks like I've hit the jackpot!"
09:43 "Oh, this is just too good!"
09:45 Mr and Mrs Incredible are forced to hide their family's powers
09:49 to help keep the world safe.
09:52 However, once they rediscover the thrill of being superheroes,
09:56 they realise it's what they're meant to be doing.
09:59 "That was so cool when you threw that card!"
10:00 "Not as cool as you running on water!"
10:03 "Hey mom, would you- hey mom, that was sweet!
10:05 When you snagged that bad guy with your arm,
10:07 and then you kinda whiplash him to the other guy, it was so cool!"
10:09 Whether it's the compelling characters in The Incredible Family,
10:13 the unique premise, or the unforgettable Edna Mode,
10:17 there just isn't much to dislike about this film.
10:21 No matter how old you are, The Incredibles has something for everyone,
10:25 and we can't help but be grateful for that long-awaited sequel.
10:28 Did someone say trilogy? We certainly hope so!
10:32 "The public is in danger!"
10:34 "My evening's in danger!"
10:36 "You tell me when I saw this woman!"
10:37 "We are talking about the greater good!"
10:40 Number 2 - Kill Bill, Volume 2
10:43 "I've killed a hell of a lot of people to get to this point,
10:46 but I have only one more.
10:48 The last one.
10:51 The one I'm driving to right now."
10:54 This Quentin Tarantino sequel was a quick turnaround from its predecessor,
10:59 coming just six months after the first volume.
11:02 Whatever expectations we had going into the theatres were undoubtedly exceeded
11:08 watching the Bride finally accomplish her drawn-out quest for revenge.
11:13 "You and I have unfinished business."
11:16 "Baby, you ain't kidding."
11:21 Kill Bill, Volume 2 is chock-full of flashbacks and fight scenes,
11:26 and in classic Tarantino fashion, an engaging score, captivating dialogue, and a hero's ending.
11:33 Needless to say, it was the perfect conclusion to this acclaimed duology.
11:38 The Kill Bill movies were relatively early entries in Tarantino's filmography,
11:43 and we've seen only pure cinematic gold from him in the years since.
11:48 We're honestly excited to see what he makes next.

12:12 Endlessly quotable and undeniably relatable, this movie is as relevant now as it was upon
12:32 its initial release. Mean Girls revolves around Cady Heron's transformation from a homeschooled
12:39 outsider to reaching the top of the social chain as one of the plastics. It introduced the world
12:45 to the unforgettable Regina George, Janice Ian, the word "fetch," and the mathlete.
12:52 "The limit does not exist. The limit does not exist."
12:56 Since then, there have been countless attempts to recreate this film's magic.
13:00 From a sequel to a Broadway musical, and now a remake written once again by the brilliant Tina
13:07 Faye, the performances from Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams are particularly noteworthy.
13:13 The one-liners are still prominent today, and Mean Girls remains a go-to for a girls' night out.
