England captain Ben Mckinney previews U19 cricket world cup
Transcript
00:00 Personally, I feel real confident going into this.
00:03 I think I've played pretty well in warm-up games and we had a good series in India.
00:07 And I think the boys are exactly the same.
00:09 I think we took real good confidence going into this World Cup,
00:13 especially with the series you had in India.
00:15 So, real pleased with what's been done before this.
00:18 What does it mean to you to be the captain of your Black Team in the 1919 World Cup?
00:22 I mean, it's hard to put into words, but I think because I've done it for quite a long time,
00:28 I find it pretty calm, pretty chill.
00:32 But in itself, it's an absolute honour.
00:34 So, yeah, I'm just trying to take it step by step and see what happens.
00:39 Individually, what can we expect from you as a player through the course of this World Cup?
00:44 I think through the World Cup, at the top of the order,
00:47 I think I'm going to try and take boulders down,
00:49 play the role as a captain in different situations
00:54 and bring calmness to the team.
00:58 What is your leadership style and how have you developed it over time?
01:01 I'd say my leadership style is calm, cool, collected.
01:05 I think over two years, I've captained England,
01:09 which has really helped me find a good balance with it.
01:12 And I think it's going to help in clutch moments in the World Cup.
01:16 If you had to list the main strengths of this English side in this World Cup,
01:22 what would you say they are?
01:24 I'd say we've got probably the most destructive baton I've seen
01:28 as an under-19 in the last two years.
01:30 And I think we've got some real good young spinners as well
01:33 that can tear apart the middle order.
01:35 As a unit, what are you hoping to achieve in this tournament?
01:39 I think as a team, it's pretty obvious we want to go and win the World Cup.
01:44 I think we've shown that we can really beat good sides and put on good performances.
01:49 So I think that's our goal.
01:51 What will it mean to the team, to the families watching back home?
01:54 To everybody, the fans of this under-19 team, to win this tournament?
01:59 I think if we won this World Cup, or even got to the final, semi-final,
02:04 I think it would really put on a good show for us, for the fans,
02:07 and the people who are watching for the future of English cricket.
