Transcript
00:00 Let's go back to the Philippines and take a look at the new administration project of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:06 that is able to bring back the beauty and vitality of the Pasig River.
00:11 We will be brought to you by Kenneth Paciente.
00:15 In 3, 2, 1...
00:18 The Jones Bridge in the city of Manila was illuminated.
00:21 This is a testament to the dedication of the walkway showcase area of the Pasig River Urban Development Project.
00:28 The project is under the PBBM or Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli Project of the DHSUD.
00:35 This is a program for the holistic approach of the government for the rehabilitation of the river.
00:41 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos are present at the inauguration.
00:48 We are here to blaze a path forward for this national asset.
00:53 We are here to reject the defeatist view that the Pasig River is beyond redemption.
00:58 We are here to consecrate ourselves to the mission of transforming Pasig River to what it is supposed to be.
01:06 A living river of multiple benefits for the multitude.
01:10 The showcase area behind the Central Post Office is 500 meters long.
01:15 It also has a public parking lot.
01:18 The development plan also includes the construction of recreational and wellness amenities, jogging and bike paths, commercial areas, and tourist spots
01:27 on the 25-kilometer stretch of the Pasig River that runs through 11 cities in Metro Manila.
01:34 The transformation we would like to see in Pasig River are not cosmetic in nature.
01:40 We will not paper over the river's fundamental problems,
01:44 nor whitewash its grime while leaving the old and rotten still there.
01:49 We do not want a river that is instantly made picturesque by coats of paint.
01:54 We want a river whose transformation sinks to its very bottom.
01:59 This begins by cleaning up the river and some solutions are found upstream
02:05 because waste disposed far from the Pasig River end up in the Pasig River.
02:10 The President's commitment to revive the Pasig River is complete.
02:14 That is why I did not hesitate to start the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli Project.
02:20 His directive to the DILG and LGU is to issue a quarterly and yearly report on the status of the rehabilitation of the Pasig River.
02:29 I will not be deterred from placing a bet on this endeavor
02:33 because the presidency is about attaining the grand and not wasting mandates on the petty.
02:41 Do not expect any half-hearted commitments not from this president.
02:46 In everything I do, I am all fully in.
02:50 DHS-UD Secretary Jose Rizalino-Acuzar said that the project has a total of P18 billion
02:58 from the budget of the donation pledges from the private sector.
03:02 The project is expected to be completed within three years.
03:06 We are here with the NCAA, with Mr. Manalo
03:11 because they are also doing tourist spots with the Department of Tourism.
03:20 This is a composite of the different departments of the local government.
03:23 That is why we have an inter-agency council.
03:29 We are all here together. This project is not just for the district.
03:33 We are all here together, especially the DNR.
03:37 The DNR has the biggest role here, the Secretary-General.
03:41 He is the one who pushes the Pasig River and makes it beautiful and makes it clear.
03:46 According to DHS-UD, three to five thousand informal settler families will be involved in the project.
03:53 But these families are the priority for the Pampansang Pabahay for the Filipino Program of the Marcos Administration.
04:00 Kenneth, patient for the people.
