00:00 Did you notice Kyle Shanahan yesterday?
00:04 I thought this was interesting.
00:05 He went out of his way to try and convince people
00:10 that Brock is not gonna be rusty.
00:12 Did you hear this comment from Kyle?
00:14 I'll play it and then you can react to it.
00:17 - Mine really much at all
00:19 'cause he hasn't been on a bye week.
00:22 We pushed the heck out of Brock.
00:23 Meetings, practice, I mean,
00:25 we knew Sam was playing that whole game
00:27 and Brock was still splitting reps with him.
00:28 So Brock got a good weekend.
00:30 We just didn't wanna put him out there
00:31 in the first half of that game.
00:32 So he did miss the first half versus the Rams,
00:35 but he got that whole weekend.
00:37 He came back, he's been here, he's worked on his days off.
00:39 We got two bigger practices last week
00:41 than we do in a normal week.
00:42 So, and Brock went out with the guys on Monday,
00:45 did a bunch of stuff with them
00:47 and now we're gonna get two practices in again.
00:49 So in terms of time off,
00:51 he did have two quarters off
00:53 to what we could have done with them,
00:54 but we definitely think that was worth it
00:56 and I don't worry about that affecting Brock
00:58 at all for Saturday.
01:00 - I love this.
01:00 Kyle is so smart.
01:02 This is the 40 chest that Kyle Shanahan plays.
01:04 What is he doing?
01:06 He's anticipating a future
01:09 in which the 49ers somehow lose.
01:12 'Cause it happens.
01:13 I mean, any given Sunday,
01:14 let's say they lose to the Packers
01:16 and Brock doesn't play well.
01:18 Well, one could say,
01:20 "Hey, Kyle, how come Brock wasn't prepared?
01:25 Was he rusty?"
01:26 And so Kyle's getting out in front of that,
01:28 "Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa."
01:29 He had some strenuous practices.
01:30 He missed a couple of quarters that he would have played,
01:33 but I prepared Brock for this game.
01:36 Brock's prepared.
01:38 So if something happens,
01:40 talk to Brock.
01:41 That's it.
01:42 That's all that is.
01:43 And I love Kyle Shanahan for thinking that way.
01:45 - I just think it was really funny
01:48 that Kyle before the Rams game said,
01:50 "Three weeks off is not good for anybody."
01:52 And then with Brock,
01:53 he's like, "Well, he really only took two."
01:55 He would have only had two quarters anyway.
01:57 It's no-
01:58 - And Brock wanted to play, right?
01:59 Brock was like, "Look, I don't want to get rusty.
02:02 I'm in a good rhythm right now."
02:03 And Kyle had to convince him,
02:04 but now he's convincing us that actually
02:06 he got a lot of work and he's not rusty.
02:07 He's like, "All right, man.
02:09 Well, we'll see what happens in the game.
02:12 See."
02:12 - It's gonna be three weeks, basically,
02:14 between meaningful football for Brock Purdy.
02:17 Like that's just the thing.
02:18 Yeah, he practiced and that's cool,
02:20 but that's not the same.
02:22 It's just not.
02:22 And so-
02:23 - And then compare it to Jordan Love.
02:25 What has he been doing the last few weeks?
02:26 - Right, he's been grinding and going through it.
02:30 I think it is-
02:30 - He's hot.
02:32 - It's something to keep an eye on.
02:33 It doesn't mean necessarily that Brock will be rusty,
02:36 but it wouldn't shock me if it took him at least a series
02:40 to get back into the swing of things.
02:42 - Yeah, it's an interesting-
02:44 I mean, again, the Niners have had all this time
02:46 and the Packers are in a short week
02:47 and they just played in the road
02:49 and they got to go home and they come back on the road.
02:51 That's why to me, if the Niners lose this game,
02:54 you can't be like, oh, well, Packers were really good.
02:57 They are, but if the Niners lose this game,
03:00 it's just catastrophic.
03:02 And you got to look at them and say,
03:03 how did you let this happen?
03:05 You were objectively better than Green Bay.
03:08 And the problem is if the Niners lose this game,
03:10 Green Bay is only going to be better next year.
03:12 They're the youngest team in the league.
03:14 They can-
03:15 I mean, most likely things happen, injuries.
03:17 Most likely they're on the upward trajectory
03:19 and the Niners are plateauing.
03:22 I don't know.
03:23 You could argue they're approaching
03:24 the downward trajectory.
03:25 So this is a great year to beat the Packers.
03:28 - Well, there's no excuse.
03:29 I don't care.
03:30 Like you have to beat the Packers.
03:31 - Have to.
03:32 - You're better than them.
03:33 This is, you know, potentially four out of five years
03:36 in the NFC Championship game if you win.
03:39 There's no excuse, unless like you have
03:41 like a Brock Perry goes out and Christian McKeown,
03:43 like barring extreme circumstances,
03:47 no excuse not to win.
03:48 Brad Brown says we'll win this game
03:49 if our linebackers play well.
03:51 Joey Mellons says I can smell what Brock is cooking.
03:56 Keith Murphy, the unbeaten.
03:57 Lamar did not eviscerate us.
03:58 The score was 16-12 at halftime after three picks.
04:01 The defense held him multiple times on short fields.
04:03 Burrow and Cousins destroyed us.
04:06 - Nah, man.
04:07 He destroyed you.
04:08 I'm sorry.
04:09 You just gotta live with that.
04:10 - I have to.
04:11 - He put up 30 seconds.
04:13 What were his numbers?
04:14 How many times did you pick him off?
04:16 - Well, yeah, certainly didn't pick him off four times.
04:18 The one thing I will say, I think that works
04:20 in the 49ers favor.
04:21 What is going on with my mic stand?
04:22 It's falling off here.
04:23 Oh boy. - Uh-oh.
04:24 - We got problems.
04:25 Things I didn't anticipate.
04:27 The Packers defense was on the field
04:30 for 89 plays against the Cowboys.
04:35 Now some of those, the number ones going in
04:37 because they put the starters back in,
04:40 like late in the game.
04:42 So like--
04:42 - Matt LeFleur botched that end of game.
04:44 That's a hell of a lot of plays.
04:47 - I don't have a lot of confidence in Matt LeFleur
04:49 or Kyle Shanahan as like guys who react
04:52 in the moment at late in games.
04:54 They're both excellent play designers,
04:55 play callers, game planners, script putter togethers,
05:00 but nah, I don't really trust them.
05:02 I mean, they're very similar.
05:04 I do think it's interesting as coaches,
05:07 LeFleur's done a really great job developing Jordan Love.
05:11 People wrote him off.
05:12 They felt like that was a fruitless project.
05:14 Everyone thought, man, he's been on the bench
05:15 for three years, he must suck.
05:17 That's not what happened.
05:19 They were just patient with him
05:20 and they gave him a chance to like play
05:22 and learn with a young team and he knocked it out.
05:26 Now the Niners never really had that opportunity
05:28 for Trey Lance.
05:29 They never went young and rebuilt for him.
05:31 But maybe, I'm just killing time while you fix that.
05:35 - No, I'm listening.
05:36 - No, I'm just, I don't know why
05:37 I'm talking about Trey Lance.
05:38 I just think it's interesting.
05:39 Like LeFleur did a great job.
05:40 All of a sudden his stock is way up.
05:42 He always seemed, I don't wanna use a bad word here.
05:46 - Uh-oh.
05:46 - Compromised, leveraged by his, dominated,
05:53 dominated by his quarterback.
05:55 You think about the head coach,
05:58 quarterback relationship, like a marriage.
05:59 He always seemed like he wasn't wearing the pants
06:01 in that relationship with Aaron Rodgers.
06:03 And it was kind of embarrassing when, you know,
06:06 he just looked so inept all the time on his own team.
06:08 Now he's running that team and he's doing a great job.
06:13 And I think people, like Niner fans don't realize it,
06:15 but this is kind of like the inverse of 2021.
06:18 That year, the Packers were the team in the NFC
06:21 the whole way through.
06:22 The Niners started two and four and then came on strong,
06:26 didn't have rest, beat the Packers in Lambeau,
06:30 when the Lambert, when they had a couple of weeks
06:32 to rest and prepare.
06:33 It's the exact inverse this year.
06:35 Now you got a team that started two and five.
06:38 That's clawed all the way back.
06:39 And it's as hot as any team in the league right now.
06:42 And the Niners have to take them seriously
06:45 and take care of business.
06:45 They should, but everyone, I mean,
06:47 a lot of people thought the Packers would handle business
06:49 two years ago and they didn't.
06:50 They lost a really fluky, weird game 13 to 10
06:53 because they got a punt blocked in the snow.
06:56 What if this game is raining?
06:57 It could be a weird freaking game, you know?
07:00 - Well, they also couldn't score.
07:01 The Packers could not score.
07:02 That's why they lost.
07:03 I mean, the Niners won without scoring
07:05 an offensive touchdown.
07:07 I'm not saying this game is gonna be 13 to 10,
07:09 but it was a weird game in the snow.
07:11 This could be a weird game in the rain.
07:12 Who knows?
07:13 - Yeah, the forecast is changing.
07:15 First, we thought we were gonna get a lot of rain.
07:16 Now, apparently it's less rain.
07:19 So who, I mean, look, it probably changes
07:21 four more times before Saturday.
07:23 - We don't really know yet, but we'll see.
07:25 - Right.
07:26 Matt McKeon says, Kyle Shanahan coaching tree
07:28 overthinks everything.
07:29 By the way, Matt's a YouTube channel member.
07:31 If you wanna become a YouTube channel member
07:33 for my channel, it's less than $3 a month.
07:35 You get custom emojis, you get membership badges,
07:37 you get priority comment response.
07:40 So please consider that if you are so inclined
07:42 and you wanna support the channel.
07:43 It is a great way to do it.
07:46 I'm surprised at how many Packer fans I am seeing
07:49 that are confident.
07:51 Like, they think the Packers are elite
07:53 and they think the Niners are gonna get smashed.
