00:30 To implement the regulations, users will thus have the choice between Apple Pay and

00:36 This commitment would be valid for 10 years in the entire European economic space, i.e.

00:41 the 27 countries of the EU plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.

00:45 It would concern all users of the iOS operating system with an Apple identifier in these

00:51 countries.

00:52 The European Commission, the gendarme of competition in the EU, announced that it invited all

00:57 parties interested in presenting their observations on the commitments offered by Apple in a

01:01 one-month period.

01:02 In May 2022, the European executive accused Apple of restricting competition in

01:09 contactless payment systems on its phones.

01:10 Brussels opened an inquiry in June 2020 after complaints from European banks.

01:15 The solution proposed by the Gruppe de Cupertino is to allow competing systems of its

01:21 Apple Pay home system to access NFC functionality for free and thanks to a set of

01:25 API application programming rules, the Commission detailed.

01:29 Apple would create the necessary APIs to allow equivalent access to the NFC component with

01:34 a technology that allows the payment identifiers to be stored safely, it stressed.
