Bobby Briggs, 66-year-old experienced Ohio powerboat racer, died on Sunday, 07 May 2023, after a collision during a race in Port Neches, Jefferson County, Texas.

The boat racing course down the Neches River hosted the annual "Thunder on the Neches", held in conjunction with the Port Neches RiverFest activities, just inland from the Texas coast. The Port Neches Riverfest event is a four-day festival for professional boat racers from across the nation. The accident occurred around 17h00, during the final laps of the F1 Powerboat Championship finals.

Two of the race boats collided in a turn, and both the injured powerboat drivers were rushed to nearby Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. One of them, Chris Fairchild, was treated and released. The wreck caused the cancellation of the F1 final races.

Sadly, Bobby Briggs succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.
