00:00 All right, Ole Miss played Auburn on Saturday.
00:03 Now Ole Miss had an 0-2 week last week.
00:05 And I would contend that everybody freaking out, which they are after an 0-2 week,
00:12 the LSU loss is worse than the Auburn loss.
00:14 I don't care about the number of points.
00:16 I do not care about the score.
00:18 And nobody at the end of the year is going to care about the score.
00:20 But Ole Miss has played probably the two best teams in the Southeastern Conference.
00:28 Maybe Kentucky has an argument to be in there where it's a three-team thing,
00:32 on the road, and they got popped in both of those games.
00:36 Absolutely.
00:37 There's no way that you can say anything else than that.
00:40 Ole Miss lost to Auburn 82-59.
00:44 Now if you look at the stats, Auburn shot 58%.
00:48 Unbelievably.
00:49 This is almost payback for what Ole Miss did to Florida, if you think about it.
00:53 Ole Miss' leading scorer had 10 points.
00:56 They did not shoot from the outside particularly well.
00:59 They were 4-17.
01:01 Auburn was about 50% from the three-point line as well.
01:05 Turnovers were about even, rebounds were about even, and
01:08 Auburn actually filed more than Ole Miss.
01:10 I think the problem for
01:19 Ole Miss in this game was a little bit, and I was worried about this as the week went on.
01:25 I think Alan Flanagan was just too hyped for this football game.
01:28 And everybody talks about what he's going and
01:31 fans are gonna blame somebody and all of that stuff.
01:34 And I get all that.
01:36 That's just all more perspectives and they're all good perspectives, honestly.
01:40 But I think that Alan Flanagan was so worked up for the Auburn game.
01:45 I think he was looking forward to going back to Auburn with his father,
01:50 Wes Flanagan, for the game that it affected the way he played against LSU.
01:54 And that was probably the more important of the two games.
01:59 The Auburn game was an opportunity.
02:01 The LSU game was more of a, hey, we need to get this one.
02:04 Because I've talked to everybody and said, hey, the goal for
02:08 Ole Miss basketball this year is like nine and nine in the conference.
02:11 You're not going to the Final Four.
02:14 You're not winning the National Championship.
02:16 You're not winning the SEC title.
02:18 You're not doing those things.
02:20 You're trying to build a base for a good program that can be developed.
02:25 Honestly, you're like 2017 Auburn in basketball right now.
02:30 Whatever Bruce Pearl's first year was before they made their big run.
02:34 You're trying to get everything in place to make that run happen.
02:38 And there's steps that have to be followed.
02:43 And I get that different teams can happen and there's certain players coming in.
02:47 And Ole Miss is light years better than they were a year ago.
02:50 They just are.
02:51 I think anybody will say that.
02:53 But there's still a process that Ole Miss is going to have to go to,
02:57 to get to the level that we all want Ole Miss to be.
03:00 I think nine and nine is a really good goal for
03:05 Ole Miss basketball and the SEC this year.
03:07 Wins over Missouri and Mississippi State and Georgia.
03:12 There's some middle teams that Ole Miss can absolutely get.
03:16 Now some good ones, don't get me wrong.
03:18 There's a lot of really good basketball teams in the SEC.
03:22 But there's only about three Auburns and Tennessee and Kentucky.
03:27 Now Alabama game's going to be tough as well.
03:29 The Arkansas game's gonna be tough.
03:31 There's athletes, there's good teams in this league.
03:34 But they're gettable.
03:35 And Ole Miss needs to figure out a way to take care of those teams at home.
03:41 Ole Miss needs to maximize their home record.
03:43 Ole Miss has played five SEC games so far this season.
03:47 They've won both those that they played at home and
03:49 they've lost all three of those that they played on the road.
03:52 There's a narrative that is developing between Ole Miss and home and the road.
04:00 And everybody will see exactly how that goes in the future.
04:06 Now, I think Ole Miss is going to be fine.
04:09 I honestly think that nine and nine as a goal was a perfectly attainable thing.
04:15 And they've proved the ability to do it.
04:16 They've beaten Florida, who at that point had a higher net than Ole Miss did.
04:21 They were in the 40s at that point.
04:23 You're going to play similar teams to that as the season goes on.
04:28 If you play them at home, figure out a way to win.
04:31 And you need to get a couple of these teams on the road.
