Maybe its because we had low expectations but we really enjoyed playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It's definitely not an Arkham game but if you want a fun, bright superhero romp then this might be just the best game to play.

00:00 You think you can stop us?
00:02 Thought you'd never ask.
00:04 So I'm with Jasmine and she has played Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League
00:09 and a lot of attention has been paid to this game
00:11 mainly because a lot of people like the characters and Rocksteady are making it
00:15 and also there has been some leaks that have happened about it
00:18 that have not necessarily been positive.
00:20 But what I found most interesting is you played it for upwards of four hours
00:25 and you really enjoyed it.
00:26 I did and again I'm not sure if that's because I went in with not even low expectations
00:31 just no expectations.
00:32 I was like if I play a game today I will be happy.
00:35 I think that I was very surprised by how much fun I had with it.
00:38 Is it the most groundbreaking thing ever?
00:40 No, but what it is is lots of fun.
00:42 Harley, no!
00:44 Worth it.
00:46 It's colourful.
00:48 It wants you to have fun.
00:49 It really enables you and facilitates your fun with your friends.
00:53 It doesn't make you feel like you suck.
00:55 It doesn't make you feel like you have to grind for hours and hours to get good
00:58 because each of the characters is so different
01:00 that you can tailor it to pretty much whatever you want it to be.
01:03 Because you were saying that you play through each of the four characters
01:05 to learn the different movesets and their styles and learn how the game works
01:08 but straight away you were like Harley Quinn is not for me.
01:11 Yeah.
01:12 Because just the way that she moved and jumped you were like no that's not for me
01:15 and you much more gravitated towards Deadshot who had the jetpack.
01:18 Yes, yes.
01:19 So I think it's because of each of the characters
01:23 they have their own way of getting around the map.
01:26 It's very vertical.
01:28 There's a lot more to Metropolis than there was to Arkham Island
01:32 and part of that is how they move.
01:35 So for Deadshot his jetpack I think for me was more intuitive off the bat.
01:40 I also liked his sniper rifle that he had as well
01:44 as some bombs that he could just throw out and decimate enemies.
01:47 It's just so much fun.
01:48 But with Harley, Harley's traversal is a lot more
01:52 there's a knack to it, there's a rhythm to it
01:54 and she swings around using a grappling hook and this floating disc in the sky.
02:00 I was awful at it I will be honest with you.
02:02 Movesets is catered to the character themselves as well
02:05 so it feels very sort of true to the character.
02:08 It feels very on brand for each of them.
02:10 That is one of the issues that people, well there are many issues with Gotham Knights
02:14 but there's an element where they're all kind of Batman clones
02:17 they're all kind of like Batman Lite and a Batman adjacent
02:19 whereas Suicide Squad, one of the benefits is every character is so vastly different
02:25 and also with the game moving forward as well
02:28 different characters come in and out
02:30 like certain characters die and characters leave the squad and stuff.
02:32 They've got a large breadth of characters that they can bring into this
02:35 that you can play with where if you complete the game
02:37 and then they bring in more characters it can completely change how the game plays
02:40 which is really interesting.
02:41 Definitely, you know and again they didn't tell me who they would be adding
02:46 to the Suicide Squad.
02:47 I do know that there will be new characters.
02:49 I do know that a lot of these characters are ones that you can unlock after the game
02:55 so the first year after launch will be free
02:57 all the content will be free whatever they release in that first year
03:01 and then after that if you don't really want to pay for it
03:04 you don't have to, you can also play the game to unlock new characters as well.
03:08 Because that's something else that came out and a lot of people are worried about
03:11 is the monetisation side of it.
03:12 Roxley never said what the monetisation was or how it worked
03:15 but there were some screens that made it look like there was monetisation involved
03:18 but you're saying you've talked to them and you've asked them
03:21 and they have said categorically that in the first year of it coming out
03:24 if you've paid for the game you don't have to pay anything.
03:26 After that first year if there's more stuff that comes out that they make
03:30 you can pay for it if you want but you can also unlock those characters in game.
03:34 Yeah.
03:35 Fantastic, that's like the perfect middle ground of like if you want it, pay for it
03:38 just get it done but if you don't mind grinding that's great.
03:40 Speaking of the characters and how they brought them to life
03:44 this looks amazing, it's so good.
03:47 It's like, okay I'm constantly getting surprised by the PS5
03:50 the next generation console and stuff but this is a fantastic looking game.
03:54 It's stunning, I really, when I was playing it I was absolutely blown away
03:59 by how like the visual fidelity of it is phenomenal.
04:03 It looks like I'm watching a movie but also because there's mocap in it too
04:07 it all looks extremely realistic and all of the characters,
04:11 the voice acting is brilliant, the writing is excellent.
04:14 I feel like again they really managed to capture the essence of what makes
04:18 the Suicide Squad a band of villains because we're not playing heroes
04:21 we are playing villains who are unruly, chaotic and the world reflects who they are.
04:26 Like nothing that we've seen from Rocksteady but in some ways
04:29 the fact that it's so different to the Arkham games makes it
04:33 in some ways incredibly Rocksteady because it shows that they're still trying to
04:37 push what we expect from them and of course if you're going into it
04:40 expecting the dark gritty nature of Batman Arkham and that really up close
04:46 personal melee and stealth you're not going to get that.
04:49 So again the idea is to think about it not like a sequel to Arkham
04:53 but sort of the next generation of the studio that gave us those games
04:57 and showing us what else they can do when it's not night time for a change
05:02 when there's actual daylight and when there's colour involved
05:05 and with that colour comes some really colourful characters.
05:09 And also the other great thing is being able to play with your friends as well
05:12 with other people and just having that laugh and enjoyment and joy.
05:16 I can understand with Rocksteady how they were like
05:19 'Okay we've done Batman, we've done dark and gritty, we've done slightly depressing
05:22 let's have a bit of fun' and they've clearly been able to flex their muscles
05:25 and it looks great. You also mentioned as well that the one thread that has been
05:29 pulled from the Arkham is a narrative focused storyline so there is this thing
05:33 where there's a proper story here, there's a reason why it's called
05:36 'Suicide Squad, Kill the Justice League' you're actually trying to kill
05:40 the corrupted Justice League, Superman gone bad.
05:43 How's the narrative side of it, how's the story?
05:45 So basically the story is that Brainiac has taken over the whole of Metropolis
05:49 and corrupted the Justice League and along with them he's also enslaved
05:53 the Justice League who are now a bunch of brainwashed lackeys doing his bidding
05:58 and the only people left to save the day are the Suicide Squad
06:02 emerging from the depths of Arkham Asylum in their jumpsuits
06:06 and they're like 'What's happening out here?'
06:08 So it's not like Waller's come in and got them, it's literally like
06:11 they're in their jumpsuits, the prison's just been wall knocked down.
06:15 All the heroes are effectively dead or they should be dead and the only people
06:19 they consent to kill the Justice League are the ones who have been fighting
06:23 against them all these years. It's Captain Boomerang!
06:25 Because they have no idea why they're there, they're like 'You want us, really?
06:29 You want us to be the good guys and save the city?'
06:32 And they're like 'Well listen, you have no choice.'
06:34 They essentially inject each of them with a bomb in their necks and they say
06:38 'Do what we say, otherwise we will kill you.'
06:41 So it's not like they're doing this out of the kindness of their hearts,
06:44 they're doing it to save their own lives and the best thing is the way that they
06:47 get the bombs in their necks is they do it to each other, they sort of rush
06:54 to grab the bombs and there's this intro bit where they're all scrambling
06:58 and trying to get each other's necks with the bombs because they think if they
07:02 do that then they'll be set free.
07:04 So it just shows that they really are just out there for each other but by doing
07:08 that they've played into Waller's own hand and she's like 'Well, now I own all
07:12 of you.'
07:14 Oh wow, that's great.
07:15 Again, it's something that I can understand people having a lot of apprehension.
07:19 Refrain from having any expectations and you will not be disappointed.
07:23 Do not go in expecting the same thing that you've always played because
07:27 it's not that and it's actually better than you think it is and I'm saying
07:31 that with sincerity.
07:32 It's a fun game and it's not another Valorant, it's not another
07:35 capture the flag kind of game.
07:36 It is a narrative driven game that has real stakes, it has beautiful cut scenes,
07:42 it's got that punchy comic book thing but it's done again in this very celebratory
07:48 way that doesn't feel forced, it doesn't feel kitschy, it feels really authentic
07:53 and really fun to play.
07:54 Okay and the release date's actually quite soon.
07:56 Yeah, yeah.
07:57 But yeah, again, it's looking brilliant.
07:59 It's looking smooth, it feels brilliant to play.
08:02 Again, it's a very immersive experience I wasn't expecting and I've been
08:06 very pleasantly surprised.
08:07 I have wildly swung from 'I don't think I'm ever going to play this game'
08:11 to 'I really, really want to play this game with some friends' or at least
08:14 one person just go through the story together, pick a character.
08:17 And I also think it could be quite perfect for that January blues where it's dark
08:22 and cold outside and Christmas is gone.
08:25 It's just like I just want something fun to romp around in and jump and do some
08:29 silly quips and that kind of stuff.
08:31 So yeah, this seems perfect.
08:32 Can't wait to see more.
08:33 The penguin is in flight.
08:35 Then let's clip his wings.
08:37 Oh my god, he's getting up.
08:42 Hitting him again.
08:44 He's ran out the door.
08:47 Somebody stop him.
08:49 Did that get him?
