00:00 This morning I can announce that Australia has used cyber sanctions powers for the very first
00:04 time on a Russian individual for his role in the breach of the Medibank private network.
00:11 As you might recall, more than nine million records of Australians, including names,
00:16 dates of birth, Medicare numbers and sensitive information, were stolen in the 2022 attack
00:21 and the majority published on the dark web. It was an egregious violation. It impacted some of the
00:27 most vulnerable members of the Australian community. We have linked Russian citizen
00:32 and cyber criminal Alexander Ermakov to the attack. This is a very important day for
00:39 cyber security in our country. This is the first time an Australian government has identified a
00:45 cyber criminal and imposed cyber sanctions of this kind and it will not be the last.
00:49 These people are cowards and they are scumbags. They hide behind technology and today the
00:56 Australian government is saying that when we put our minds to it we will unveil who you are
