00:00 - Soul Surgery has a unique approach
00:02 to drug and alcohol recovery using an intrigue,
00:04 integrated approach involving chiropractic treatment
00:07 and rehabilitation.
00:08 Here to tell us more about Soul Surgery
00:10 and the treatment is Blaine Archer and Dr. Blackstone.
00:13 How are you two doing today?
00:14 - Doing great. - Great.
00:14 Thank you for having us.
00:15 - Blaine, let's talk about Soul Surgery
00:17 and of course the treatments and stuff that you do
00:20 to make sure people are on that right journey to recovery.
00:23 - Yeah, so we offer the full continuum
00:26 for those who struggle with substance abuse
00:28 and mental health and that starts with residential
00:30 all the way down to outpatient.
00:32 And we have perfected the art of integrating
00:35 Eastern and Western medicine under one centralized roof.
00:39 And that's what we take pride on is the care
00:43 and the services that we provide.
00:44 It greatly increases the chances of success.
00:48 - Yeah, and that's very important for people
00:51 to have that success the way that you guys are doing it
00:53 'cause some places are pretty much
00:55 as a consultation kind of and to kind of guide you that way.
00:59 But you guys take it to another step
01:01 and that is where of course making sure
01:02 they're getting the right treatments in a certain way.
01:05 One is chiropractic treatment
01:07 that people don't understand, Dr. Blackstone,
01:09 that is a very big way of helping people
01:11 get to that journey of recovery.
01:13 - It is, Brad.
01:14 I found that when John Mulligan, our CEO and founder
01:19 had the foresight to bring me on board,
01:22 it seemed a really logical choice
01:25 because a lot of people kind of start their journey
01:29 of addiction because they're in a lot of pain.
01:31 And one of the things that of course chiropractic does
01:35 is we're able to kind of help and reduce the person's pain
01:39 through various techniques and as well as exercises.
01:44 And of course we do a very thorough job there using X-ray.
01:49 So we're able to actually see
01:51 if there's any structural issues
01:53 and hopefully get to the point
01:55 where they can really manage their health better.
01:57 - Yeah, something that's so important
01:59 that you said right there
02:00 and that is to take care of the pain
02:01 'cause that is one reason why people do get addiction
02:04 is from a car accident or from some type of injury
02:08 and they start taking the prescription drugs
02:10 or even self-medicating themselves.
02:13 And that is why you say, you know what,
02:15 we're gonna help you find that pain and take care of it.
02:17 And it does come into our backs and our different areas.
02:21 - Yeah, there's actually been several studies
02:23 that show that chiropractic care
02:25 helps reduce the use of opioids
02:27 or the likelihood that someone
02:29 will actually utilize their prescription,
02:32 which is fantastic.
02:33 And we take an approach
02:35 that we're not just looking of course pain,
02:38 we're looking at the overall balance
02:40 and how their lifestyle
02:41 so that they can continue on with their sobriety
02:44 and utilize the various techniques that we show them,
02:46 exercise, diet, and of course they have access
02:50 to all these other modalities as well.
02:53 - And Blayne, that's again what the programs
02:54 that you guys offer is to give people those guidance.
02:57 But I love that it's not just one program for everybody.
03:02 You sit with them and talk with them
03:03 because one person might need the chiropractic treatment
03:06 or they might need a different type of treatment
03:08 and that's where you guys do make sure
03:09 that they're getting the right things.
03:11 - Absolutely, so there is a intake process
03:14 when they arrive to the facility, right?
03:15 They're greeted, welcomed.
03:17 And then there's a process where they meet with,
03:19 you know, the case managers, they meet with nursing,
03:21 they meet with psych, they meet with the doctor,
03:23 they meet with clinical.
03:25 So they go through all of these, you know, stages
03:28 and each department is doing their own observation
03:32 and taking notes.
03:33 So when they get done with the intake,
03:34 we know exactly, you know, what they're struggling with,
03:37 what we need to work on, what traumas,
03:39 and we have a history of, you know,
03:43 the history of their use and their families
03:45 so therefore we can develop a better treatment plan.
03:48 - Yeah, that's again too, again,
03:49 it's where you know that they're at this point
03:51 but you guys step back before they got to that point
03:54 to help them go forward into recovery
03:57 and putting the different things in together
03:59 and so, and that's the main thing.
04:00 I wanna get back to, of course,
04:02 the chiropractor part to this.
04:04 And again, how you do that because you pretty much
04:07 will pinpoint the pain in different ways
04:09 and help them straighten yourself out
04:11 and it helps quite a bit.
04:12 - Right, so when they come in, they have a full medical
04:14 so everything's cleared from that perspective.
04:17 By the time I see them, I do another really thorough
04:20 chiropractic exam, take x-rays if need be,
04:24 and then basically what we do is try and develop
04:26 a program for them based on their history
04:28 'cause everybody comes in different, of course,
04:31 and what we try and do is personalize it,
04:34 just like we were talking about,
04:35 and then really the best outcomes I've seen
04:39 is are really that when people utilize all of the services
04:43 that we have available, you know,
04:45 including of course the chiropractic exercise,
04:48 we have a full gym there where they can do yoga
04:52 and we have weight machines and so we're able
04:54 to really help them get better and stay better.
04:58 - Yeah, and we know, Blaine, that people having a regimen
05:01 of exercising and getting healthy
05:03 is one of the best ways for recovery.
05:06 - Absolutely, and it's a mind, body, and soul, right?
05:11 You have to be mentally, emotionally prepared, right?
05:14 And then the physical aspect as well.
05:17 - Yeah, yeah. - It's a full--
05:19 - Full circle there. - Yeah.
05:21 - Thank you, doctor. - Absolutely.
05:21 - Thank you, Blaine, for coming in.
05:22 - Thank you for having me. - Thanks, Brad.
