Cosmo Girls Try Motorcycle Riding For The First Time | Cosmo Test Drive

In the first episode of #CosmopolitanTestDrive, we got two Cosmo editors to try motorcycle riding for the first time at the Yamaha Riding Academy. Cheska and Cass learned from Neil Hindang, the YRA Chief Instructor for Motorsports and Safety Promotion: from driver safety, to riding a motorcycle within a controlled environment as a beginner.

00:00 Oh, where am I going?
00:02 Oh, why is it like that?
00:04 Cosmo Girls!
00:11 My name is Kath.
00:12 And I'm Cheska.
00:13 And we're here at Yamaha Riding Academy in Batangas.
00:16 Okay, so we're here today to learn the basics of motorcycle riding.
00:24 Now, actually, this is my first time riding a motorcycle.
00:27 When I was in high school with my auntie when she was teaching me.
00:30 So, we're very excited to learn the basics now.
00:33 Hopefully, go to some off-road activities soon.
00:36 Let's go, Cosmo Girls!
00:38 Come with us on a test ride!
00:40 [music]
01:02 We are here at Yamaha Riding Academy.
01:04 And we will teach today the Cosmo Girls.
01:07 In terms of gloves, we really recommend the full set.
01:11 We use the elbow pads that are recommended.
01:14 Also, the knee pads.
01:16 Most importantly, of course, the motorcycle helmet.
01:19 And always lock the helmet.
01:22 [music]
01:42 Control.
01:44 Good, good.
01:45 Control.
01:46 Balance.
01:47 Good, good.
01:49 Control.
01:51 Control.
01:52 Control.
01:53 Close.
01:56 Good.
02:02 I'm happy.
02:11 Are you happy?
02:12 I'm happy. I had a hard time on the break.
02:14 But Sir Neil is good at teaching.
02:17 So, slowly but surely.
02:18 He's just practicing, but he's happy.
02:21 I'm happy, actually.
02:24 But I had a hard time on the break because my hands are heavy.
02:28 I'm really like that.
02:29 So, it's just like that.
02:30 Slow but sure.
02:32 And Sir Neil even made me ride a bike earlier.
02:36 He said, "When was the last time you rode a bike?"
02:39 But I can do it now.
02:41 I can balance now.
02:42 So, that's it.
02:43 [music]
02:52 During the practice run,
02:54 and their confidence is observed,
02:57 the moving and stopping,
02:59 they are slowly developing their riding,
03:02 and they become more confident in operating the motorcycle.
03:06 It's their first time riding a motorcycle.
03:09 In the long run, when they practiced,
03:11 they listened to our instructions,
03:13 and they executed it in a proper way.
03:16 They slowly improved,
03:17 they developed proper acceleration,
03:20 braking,
03:21 and earlier, you saw that they were able to turn their motorcycle on their own.
03:27 [music]
03:31 Okay, so we're finally done with our motorcycle training,
03:35 and we actually had a lot of realizations and learnings for today.
03:39 What did you realize?
03:41 At first, I thought it was really intimidating,
03:44 especially for us women.
03:45 We're Manila girls,
03:46 so in EDSA, you know that it can be very traffic.
03:49 It's really hard to ride a motorcycle.
03:53 But now, I feel like I overcame my initial fear,
03:57 because the instructors were very knowledgeable about the topic,
04:00 and they were really helpful,
04:01 teaching us to be comfortable,
04:03 and the basics of motorcycle training.
04:06 You really have to come prepared,
04:07 come knowledgeable with the basics.
04:09 With the safety, you have to equip yourself with the safety gear,
04:12 with the techniques.
04:13 Even if it's just the basics,
04:14 like a few hours,
04:15 we were able to really learn a lot.
04:17 And it really helps them that we were able to start our training
04:20 within a controlled environment.
04:22 That means it's okay to make mistakes,
04:25 because the environment is controlled,
04:27 so there are no cars passing by.
04:29 And the instructors were there to help us in case we made mistakes,
04:33 which we made a lot of.
04:34 [music]
04:39 So for women, I feel like I would really recommend this.
04:42 Even for anybody who is just a beginner,
04:45 who is afraid of riding two wheels,
04:47 it really is a matter of just overcoming your fear,
04:51 just being comfortable,
04:53 and equipping yourself with the right safety practices.
04:56 A training academy will definitely help you.
04:58 It's really a worthy investment
05:00 if you're really thinking of wanting to try out riding two-wheeled vehicles.
05:06 So, Cosmo Girls, see you on our next adventure!
05:10 Bye!
