After defeating Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Detroit Lions are headed to the NFC Championship game.
Transcript
00:00 John, do you believe it? The Detroit Lions have advanced to the NFC Championship game for the first time since the 1991 season.
00:07 Incredible performance from the Lions on Sunday at Ford Field. What do you make of that victory for Detroit?
00:13 Yeah, Vito, real interesting. I thought a contest many people felt the Detroit Lions would dictate and have a good opportunity to win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:22 It was a great performance all the way around. You saw a defense be opportunistic, force a couple takeaways, an early interception by CeeDee Deuce, which kept the crowd very into it.
00:32 Again, for the second consecutive week, Ford Field set a new decibel record. The fans were into it from the start, chanting Jared Goff.
00:40 Really sensing after, obviously, the 49ers were able to defeat the Packers, it became evident that it would be the final home game of the 2023 season.
00:49 And the fans certainly helped out and were into it from the very beginning until the very end.
00:55 And Dan Campbell's squad, which really, when you look at it, finished the year 8-2 at home, really giving the fan base a lot to be proud of.
01:03 And Vito, really, you look at it and it's a football team that has taken on the identity of the city that they play in.
01:09 And it's a gritty, hard-nosed football team that is able to play and execute well in close contests.
01:17 You see a football team that doesn't wilt when the pressure is the hottest.
01:21 You saw the offense, even though it struggled early on, find their rhythm in the second half and take their opportunity when they needed to.
01:28 And you saw a defense, even though the Buccaneers had the ball late, you saw a defense that was able to, with Derrick Barnes, the linebacker, forcing the late interception.
01:38 And you saw a Detroit Lions defense that was opportunistic.
01:41 Yeah, obviously Mike Evans was able to record over 170 yards receiving, was able to have a little bit of success.
01:48 But in the end, Vito, the Detroit Lions, when they needed to, they were able to dial up the pressure and disrupt the Buccaneers offense.
01:56 And so for Dan Campbell and that young roster, the first opportunity that they've had to be in the NFC Championship Game since 1991.
02:05 Well over three decades, 60 minutes away from appearing in the Super Bowl.
02:11 Nobody would have thought that at the beginning of the year.
02:13 But now the Detroit Lions are playing a great brand of football, a great brand of football that is conducive to winning in the postseason.
02:21 The Lions are on the doorstep of history, Jai. Thanks for all the time.
