Samsung Store Launch In BKC | NDTV Profit

00:00 We are at the launch of the Samsung BKC store in Bandra Kula complex in Mumbai.
00:04 And joining us today for talking about the launch is Mr. Sumit Walia.
00:08 He's the senior director and head of D2C at Samsung India.
00:11 Sumit sir, welcome to NETV Prophet.
00:15 Pehli baat, what is the need for such a store when you have such a big retail presence in
00:23 India sir?
00:24 Okay, so firstly thank you for having me on your show.
00:28 I think like I mentioned, jaise main apne presentation mein bhi bataya tha, we have
00:33 some 1600 brand stores.
00:35 And when we've seen how consumers are upgrading to premium and nearly two-third of the sales
00:42 coming from premium, humein dikh raha hai ki there is a need.
00:47 There is a need to put an ultra-premium kind of a setup and the way we are expecting premiumization,
00:54 I think it's moving even faster.
00:56 So we want to get even more top of the line products and if you have to put even more
01:01 expensive or even more ultra-uber premium products like for example we have the 110
01:06 inch amazing micro LED TV here, which is one of the most expensive televisions, we need
01:11 to showcase it differently.
01:13 And I think that's where Samsung BKC comes in.
01:16 So we try to put together a format where we can put top of the line products and also
01:20 showcase them very differently.
01:23 So if you would see, we have some very dedicated nice zones in the way the products have been
01:27 showcased.
01:28 Aap premiumization ki baat karte hain, aap premiumization define kaise karenge?
01:35 So average ticket size purchases ki kya hote hain, ye buyers kaun hain, kahaan rehte hain,
01:41 kuchh bataa sakenge aap?
01:43 Actually as a matter of fact, you know, premiumization is not a metro phenomena.
01:48 I think across the length of the country, consumers ka expectations from their devices,
01:56 from their products is on the rise.
02:00 They are wanting to upgrade.
02:02 I think every time, whether it's a washing machine, whether it's a television, whether
02:05 it's a refrigerator, whether it's our, you know, the most loved galaxy, people are upgrading.
02:09 And I think they are initiated to find even better products, even better features and
02:14 more importantly, better experiences.
02:16 I think that's what is, you know, driving people to keep upgrading their devices.
02:21 So aap average ticket size batayenge nahi humein?
02:25 I think for har category ke liye, there's a different definition.
02:28 But what I can tell you is that, you know, people are upgrading and people are upgrading
02:33 across the length and breadth of the country.
02:35 And I think a lot of us have done a lot of hard work in terms of, you know, bringing
02:38 affordability platforms, trying to give EMIs, encourage people through loyalty programs
02:44 and then moreover, even technology is playing a part in wanting people to drive and adopt
02:49 and you know, get to new ways of making their life convenient.
02:53 Sir, correct me if I'm wrong, this is your second experience store in India.
02:59 Iske expansion plans aur kya hai?
03:02 Aap kaun kaunse markets mein jayenge?
03:03 Aapka focus kya hai?
03:04 Tier 1 hai, Tier 2 hai, Tier 3 hai?
03:06 Agar uske baare mein thoda baat kar payenge toh?
03:09 Toh, I think across the country, we have some 1600+ brand stores.
03:16 And like you said, we, last year we've also taken a foray into, you know, even more premium
03:23 brand stores across the country.
03:25 Today, what we are launching is ek naya tara ka store.
03:29 You know, looking at the customer segment.
03:33 So we are actually segmenting the market, segmenting our customers and looking at ki
03:38 ab kya naya chahiye.
03:39 Ab hum ja rahe hain towards the ultra premium and the super premium consumer.
03:44 And unki need kya hai?
03:46 Unko kya chahiye?
03:47 Aur uske liye hum kya bana sakte hain?
03:50 Aur unke liye, jaise humne, you know, what we've understood is, ki yaar, they want premium
03:55 products but they also want the products to talk to each other.
03:58 So we have to show them in a lifestyle setting and we also have to show them how they talk
04:03 to each other in a connected ecosystem.
04:05 So that's what we are catering to.
04:07 So that's what we've identified and that's what we are showcasing here.
04:09 How many experience stores are you planning to open this year?
04:12 If you can give us some forecast on it.
04:17 I think we are committed.
04:19 Aaj ki date mein, we want to make Samsung VKC a big success.
04:25 And we are confident, I think, with this kind of an experience, which is something first
04:28 that we are offering in India.
04:29 People are going to fall in love with this.
04:32 And as we get the experience right, as we get the consumers to basically adopt this
04:37 way of shopping, I think we will definitely commit it.
04:39 And we've been in India, you know, have been investing and expanding our retail network.
04:43 We'll continue with that rigor.
