00:00 You are watching SOHH.com.
00:02 Hi, SoFamily. Today we have a special guest. We have CMG label rapper 10%. What's going on?
00:12 What's going on?
00:13 Nothing much. Just chilling. How are you feeling?
00:17 I'm feeling good. I just woke up not too long ago.
00:20 Okay. Okay. So you're energized and you're ready.
00:24 A little bit.
00:27 Okay. So I want to talk about how your rap career began. Where does 10% start?
00:37 How did that begin?
00:39 I've been rapping for a minute. I've been rapping since like really 10. Since I was 10 is crazy
00:49 the number. But yeah, I've just been rapping my whole life. I took it like a toy early.
00:55 I was around music though. So.
00:58 What kind of music were you around?
00:59 All types like anywhere from like 2Pac, Big, old school, all types of music. I did like all types
01:12 of music.
01:13 Yeah. And was it like, like your parents, grandmother, like who was listening to the music?
01:19 Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
01:20 Clean up the house to music. I really got a taste of like everything, all types of music.
01:26 And then who was like, who was your favorite and who would you say was like a big
01:31 inspiration to like your sound?
01:32 To my sound?
01:34 Yeah.
01:35 I really say everybody who I was listening to like combined. Cause I get a little something
01:41 from everybody, you know, a little creativity, but I got 2Pac my favorite rapper. You see,
01:47 I got 2Pac right here with the 10 shiny.
01:49 Okay.
01:50 That's my favorite rapper, I ain't gonna lie.
01:51 So.
01:53 Okay. So 2Pac is like the real source of inspiration.
01:58 But yeah, I would say that.
02:00 Yeah. I love that. Where are you from?
02:02 I'm from Memphis.
02:04 Okay. Why did, why did I feel like, like I knew that?
02:08 Everybody asked me.
02:09 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think, I don't know. Like, it's like, I'm, it's like, I don't know the
02:12 accent, but I knew the accent, you know?
02:14 Yeah.
02:16 So why, why, why 10%? Like, where did, where did that come from?
02:23 So I had, it's 10% cause I had, there's a lot of reasons. I ain't gonna lie, I need
02:33 10% of everything. But the real one is like, I got a label called, to everybody notice.
02:38 You know, so I, we had came up with 10% as a name. Then my manager, yeah, came up with
02:46 the acronym TEN, like, which is 10 too. So it's like to everybody notice.
02:51 So you just kind of kept coming back to 10%?
02:56 Yeah, basically.
02:58 Yeah.
02:58 Sorry, say that again?
03:03 I said, I like the sound of it and it's catchy.
03:05 Yeah, it is catchy. It is really catchy.
03:10 So who inspires you the most right now in your career? Like what, like, I know, I know
03:18 we're going to get into this a little bit later. I know that, uh, Yo Gotti is like a
03:24 big influence and then also Moneybagg Yo as well. Are those like, would you say those
03:29 are the two biggest inspirations on your career? Or do you have like, you know, other rappers
03:34 that you?
03:36 Uh, I definitely say Gotti. Cause you know, being from the city and then like, you know,
03:47 he from the same city, both of them from the same city I am. I'm knowing how it is coming
03:51 up there. And then just like seeing what our brother, you know, accomplished, like he,
03:56 he's the owner of a soccer team, like stuff like that. Just like big, way bigger than
04:01 the city. So definitely I look at like Gotti's inspiration, self motivation.
04:07 And how did that, so how did that relationship form? Like, how did you end up, you know,
04:12 being signed to his label?
04:14 Uh, through the dollar for dollar challenge.
04:17 Through what?
04:19 The dollar for dollar challenge that he did.
04:21 Where he, um, he had put out a song, you know, the dollar for dollar, that's how I
04:27 got signed, like through that.
04:30 But like, what, so where, like, where did the relationship begin though? Like, so you,
04:34 so you guys did the song together, but how did you get to the point where you even did
04:39 the song together?
04:40 I had won a challenge, the dollar for dollar challenge, and then flew me out, you know,
04:50 we were chopping it up, flew me out to LA. Then, you know, just peeping each other, like
04:55 build a relationship like that. And then he heard some more of my catalog and then boom,
05:00 took off.
05:01 Oh, so you won the challenge? Okay. Okay. So that's how that, oh, that's interesting.
05:05 That's pretty dope. How did that feel? Like, let's talk about that. Like, what did, like,
05:11 you know, you win this challenge and then like, he flies you out. Like, what is going
05:15 on in your mind? Like what, like what's happening?
05:17 Man, you can only imagine, like, I've been, I've been working my whole life, like to get
05:24 to this point though, so I ain't even gonna say it was just like, just crazy to me. It
05:27 was crazy, but it's something that I already saw coming, like happening. Like I came into
05:32 the challenge, like I'm about to win, there's no way I'm finna not, even though like, down
05:38 there, everybody in the world did the challenge. I came here like I'm already finna win this,
05:41 so I think that's probably why I'm gonna be winning.
05:44 Yeah, like the whole experience is that crazy though, especially being from, you know, from
05:51 the same city and getting signed to Broke. And he actually, he came to my high school,
05:55 no, actually I was in temporary discouragement too when he got it, came to my high school
06:01 and did so back in the day. So I always grew up, you know, wanting to be signed to CMG
06:06 and then it actually happened.
06:07 Isn't that crazy? Like a full circle moment.
06:12 Yeah. So let's talk about Broke before you heard this.
06:19 Okay, so why that title?
06:21 Why that title? So I named it that because like a lot of them songs, right,
06:27 was like old songs, not old, but like, like the, the, when I made them, I was in that
06:36 mode, like I was, you know, broke or whatever. And then like, but when you heard it, it's
06:41 a whole different time now, like it's up, up a little bit more, you know, so that's
06:46 why I named it, that's like this time and then by the time it got to you, it's up.
06:51 So it's kind of like, like it has like that energy of like this, like it's like a fresh,
06:58 like stepping into like a new level kind of.
07:01 Yeah. Yeah. I definitely felt that.
07:05 Do you have any favorite songs in the album? Like what's your favorite single?
07:14 I like that cold cuts a lot though.
07:15 Yeah.
07:16 Yeah, but cold cuts, I ain't gonna lie, cold cuts was the last song I made, like just on
07:22 the tape. Like cold cuts, that wasn't even on the tape at first.
07:26 Really?
07:28 I had just made this song and the other, it was too hard and I had to like switch the
07:33 whole tape and I threw it on there and it turns out to be one of my most favorite songs on
07:37 the tape so far. So I'm glad I did that.
07:40 So that's why, because cold cuts is first right on there, right?
07:43 Just the intro, yeah.
07:43 Yeah. So that's why you decided, because that was your favorite?
07:48 Yeah.
07:49 Okay. What kind of music are you listening to these days?
07:54 To keep you like, you know, in your zone?
07:59 I try to listen to a lot only because like I want to see how everybody else coming in.
08:08 I want to like, you know, I don't know, like as far as artists go, I'd say I listen to
08:14 Future. I like Future music.
08:16 Of course the whole CMG, you know, we rock by itself, you know.
08:22 And then I really listen to like all the songs too, like still listen to 2Pac, Big.
08:34 I be listening, I listen to Fantaise, I listen to, what's that girl, she a singer.
08:41 I forgot her name.
08:45 What's she sing?
08:46 She's white, but she can sing real, real fine.
08:49 Lana Dell.
08:50 Um, what does she look like?
08:54 She, she kind of big, like she was on a Drake album.
08:56 Uh, is it, what's her name?
08:59 It's on the, not the last one.
09:03 It's certified, little boy.
09:05 I feel like I know who it's, uh, not, um, it starts with an S or something.
09:10 I gotta look it up.
09:12 I'm finna get it for you right now.
09:15 I'm not.
09:19 Is it Yeba?
09:20 Yeba.
09:21 Yeah, that's all.
09:22 Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:23 I don't know why I said S.
09:24 Okay, yeah, I know who you're talking about.
09:26 She has a beautiful voice.
09:26 I'm a five, that's what I'm saying.
09:28 I'm trying to work with her.
09:29 Yes.
09:30 Name it.
09:32 Name it.
09:32 Yeah, I've been listening to like, Burna Boy too.
09:34 Like, I've been trying to listen to like, everything.
09:37 Like I said, International Heart, like Burna Boy, Heart.
09:39 Mm-hmm.
09:41 How does, like, how does that, like, when you listen to different artists, how does that
09:44 inspire you?
09:44 Does it make you like, well, you said it makes you like, want to make, like, music with different
09:48 artists.
09:49 But also, like, does that inspire you to, um, to try different things?
09:53 Yeah, that's, that's the main reason why I do it, because it allowed me to, like, expand my,
09:57 my sound too.
09:59 Like, I ain't, I ain't tried it yet.
10:01 I'm the type, I ain't tried it yet, so, you know, I'm gonna try it.
10:05 That'll only make me better, that'll help my life.
10:07 So, that's why I do it.
10:09 That's a good approach to have, you know, to stay, like, open to constantly expanding.
10:14 Um, where do you see your rap career going in like, five years?
10:21 Like, where do you see yourself?
10:22 Two years.
10:25 To the moon.
10:25 So, all right, let me bring back, I'm gonna bring this back up, okay?
10:31 So, like, bring it back.
10:32 So, I got Tupac, if you can see, he got the 10 chain on, he got my chain on, and then I got two,
10:39 uh, Maka Joy.
10:41 Oh, so Tupac has your chain on?
10:43 Yeah.
10:45 Oh, I can see, okay.
10:48 Then Maka Joy with the 10 jersey, you know he wear a 23 though.
10:52 But I got there because, like, it's just me, uh, put myself in that, like,
10:59 basically, like, these folks is the biggest in whatever, the basketball, biggest in, uh,
11:03 in rap, as you can say.
11:06 So, I'm, that's the level that I'm, like, I'm aiming for.
11:10 So, that ain't even big.
11:11 Not even, like, that's the only competition really, I ain't gonna lie, and they gone,
11:16 so what they tell you?
11:17 So, there are no limits.
11:20 That's what my head is, so.
11:22 So, no limits, no limits, we going all the way for it.
11:24 No limit at all.
11:26 That's why I say to everybody notice though, that's why my label called to everybody notice
11:30 because it's a lot of people on the earth, and if I'm trying to get everybody to notice,
11:35 it's real, real big.
11:37 We're not gonna never have them, but it's gonna allow me to keep going though.
11:40 Right, exactly.
11:44 Oh, and let's, okay, so let's talk about your relationship with, um, Moneybagg Yo,
11:48 and how he has influenced your career.
11:54 I've been, I've been with Moneybagg since, you know, since before I was signed.
11:57 It's crazy though, I got, uh, you know, we got Major Payne, we got one ass Mo too,
12:06 but Major Payne's just so hard, I'm glad he hopped on that record, you know, he did his thing.
12:10 Yeah, shout out to Burk.
12:15 Yeah, so does he have any sort of influence, um, on your sound, on your, you know, writing,
12:23 or anything?
12:24 I wouldn't say influence on the sound, um, but,
12:30 Burk's just hard, you know, a lot of people be like, "Oh, we sound alike," or whatever,
12:36 I think that's just the city talk, like that's the, um, the accent, the lingo, you feel me, but.
12:42 Yeah.
12:44 Yeah.
12:44 Well, what kind of advice is, um, yo, Gotti and Moneybagg Yo, what kind of advice do they give
12:50 you?
12:52 Oh, they be giving a lot of advice, like, they legit keep applying pressure, and stay in their
12:59 face, stay in the studio, but them things I was already doing anyway, so, you know, we already
13:07 on the same page with that.
13:08 Yeah.
13:11 So, it's like a bunch of like minds coming together.
13:14 Basically, yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:15 And becoming like a superpower.
13:16 Basically, yeah.
13:18 Like that.
13:19 Okay, and where can everyone find your music?
13:23 Uh, anywhere, like, 10%.
13:27 Mm-hmm.
13:28 So, that's what, has Apple, um.
13:32 Yeah, Apple, Spotify, YouTube, Pandora, actually, uh, Magic Pan, you know, the number one on
13:40 Pandora, on there, so that was hard, the whole first, the first week.
13:45 Um, the, any streaming platform, they're all on it, yeah.
13:48 Okay, great.
13:50 For sure.
13:51 And, um, are you gonna add any more tattoos to your collection?
13:54 What you gonna get next?
13:55 You know, actually, my niece be doing all my tattoos, she hard, it's diamond text.
13:59 Hey, you got it.
14:00 It's what?
14:01 It's diamond text, my niece do all my tattoos, she in Memphis.
14:05 She hard, though, like, you know what I'm saying?
14:08 If I come to Memphis, I'm gonna get a tattoo with, with your niece.
14:11 Uh, actually, that might be the only jacket I got, I didn't even realize it.
14:14 But yeah, she hard, though.
14:17 Yeah, those are really nice.
14:19 Yeah, she clean.
14:21 She did a really good job.
14:22 Yeah.
14:23 So, you gonna get something else?
14:25 Eventually, I, like, I gotta find a room, right, man.
14:29 I still, I got, I got, uh, room right here, though.
14:33 I don't know if I'm gonna finish it.
14:35 I'll probably finish my bag, probably.
14:38 I got most of this, though.
14:41 Okay, so you really tatted up.
14:42 See, I got, like, two tattoos, don't I?
14:46 They started off with one, though, and I was like, man, I can't get no more.
14:50 Three, you know, the whole body.
14:52 Yeah.
14:54 I wish, I wish I was that bold.
14:57 All right, guys, thank you so much, 10%.
15:04 This was great.
15:05 I'm super excited for you, and we're definitely here to support you.
15:09 Oh, it was very nice.
15:11 Appreciate you having me.
15:12 No problem.
15:14 Have a great day.
