Ex-Esscom intel chief, seven others acquitted in Tawau murder case

Eight people including former Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) intelligence chief SAC Datuk Mat Zaki Md Zain were acquitted of murdering e-hailing driver Nurman Bakaratu.

This was after Nurman's ex-wife admitted to murdering him while she was testifying in court earlier Thursday (Jan 25).

00:06 Staff SAC Datuk Matzaki Matzain and seven others of murder and conspiracy charges in
00:12 the murder trial involving e-hailing driver Norman Bakaratu.
00:16 Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairul Azrim Mamat informed the court on Thursday that they were
00:21 dropping the case following their key witness, Nurima Julie's testimony that she killed her
00:26 ex-husband Norman.
00:28 Nurima confessed to killing Norman in the white Mivy car they were traveling in when
00:32 it stopped at a palm oil plantation on January 13th last year.
00:37 In view of the prosecution's decision, Judge Datuk Duncan Sikadol ordered all eight accused
00:42 persons be discharged and acquitted, and for the remaining trial dates to be vacated.
00:48 On January 30th last year, 33-year-old Nurima was charged at the Tawau Magistrate's Court
00:53 with the murder of Norman.
00:55 However, on February 8th, the same court released her from the murder charge and she became
01:00 the prosecution's witness.
01:03 On the same day, six policemen, aged between 40 and 47, and a 34-year-old civilian were
01:09 charged with killing Norman under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
01:14 Matzaki was slapped with two charges of conspiring to kill Norman, a total of 23 prosecution
01:20 witnesses testified in the trial, which started on January 2nd this year.
