00:00 We're talking about famous coaches Kyle Shanahan quite famous Dan Campbell has become very famous and if he
00:07 well, obviously if he wins a Super Bowl he'd be more but
00:10 They're different
00:13 Kyle Shanahan's kind of you know talks
00:15 He's real cool. He's laid-back and he doesn't go for it on fourth down very much Dan Campbell
00:22 Intense all up in your face goes for it on fourth down like all the freaking time
00:27 Let's
00:29 Compare and contrast these coaches Jesse
00:31 well
00:34 I'll ask you a question who if you had an organization not who's the better coach
00:39 Let's just take their demeanor and what they bring to the table
00:43 Which demeanor do you prefer?
00:45 Do you prefer Kyle Shanahan's demeanor or do you prefer Campbell's demeanor and and got to remember what comes with that is
00:52 The way that they coach on the field as well the decision-making. I love this question and I have a great answer for you. I do
00:59 Campbell's and here's why Kyle's demeanor is great. It's authentic. It works for him, but
01:06 What did he have to do midseason? He had to call Steve Wilkes out of the coaching booth. Hey Steve
01:12 It's a little flat down here
01:15 I'm sort of staring at my play sheet and that isn't really
01:19 Doing it
01:22 Emotionally for my players the way that you could or D'Amico or solid did so he sort of always needs
01:29 The defensive coordinator to be the emotional core of the team. He can't do it
01:35 And look to his credit. He always finds a guy who can do it and it's never held him back. So
01:41 but
01:44 Dan doesn't need to
01:46 Find someone to do that for him
01:48 Delegate is the word I was looking for. He doesn't need to delegate that important one because it's kind of like leadership
01:53 Mm-hmm
01:56 Kind of like leadership it is leadership
01:58 Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's not it's not like pretend leadership. It's nice. That's leadership. Yeah
02:04 yeah, this is why these defensive coordinators get hired from the Niners because you're kind of
02:08 You're kind of not you kind of are a co-head coach of the team in a lot of ways
02:14 You're like the head coach of the team Kyle's like I had I'm just gonna do my thing you go ahead cool
02:20 I'll run the team
02:22 Yeah, I it's interesting because I had a I posed a similar question on my show yesterday
02:28 And it was more like which demeanor do you prefer in this moment?
02:31 And why and I actually lean towards Shanahan. I I gravitate more towards Campbell
02:37 But for this moment, I would lean the Shanahan way because at least I know what I'm gonna get
02:42 I don't know what I'm gonna get from Campbell and that could be a good thing
02:46 I will say this going against Campbell is much scarier than going against Shanahan
02:51 Just because you can't predict what's gonna happen. It could be fourth and four on their own 35 and they're like f it
02:57 We're going for it. Well, it's really hard to stop offenses four times in a row
03:01 It is it doesn't matter and and their offense is very good
03:04 So when you think that all of a sudden you're about to get the ball back. It's like not so fast
03:09 We're gonna go for it on fourth down. We're gonna go for a two-point conversion
03:12 that is really scary to go against because it's like they they play and coach like they have nothing to lose and what's interesting is
03:20 Kyle Shanahan today in his press conference talked about this. He talked about their defense and
03:26 if they make the right moves, they feel like they can get big plays because
03:31 Detroit gambles I went and listened to Dan Campbell's press conference today
03:36 He talked about that exact same thing and he said they asked him about the defense and he said oh, I love our defense
03:42 They hit hard. They're after it. They gamble. That's the way that I prefer them to be sometimes it hurts you
03:48 But when it helps big plays definitely happen, so they both recognize it
03:52 Shanahan's like I wouldn't you can tell he's like I wouldn't coach
03:56 Yeah, Campbell's like no I want my players to be gamblers
04:02 So they're just completely different guys, and I think they're both very good coaches in their own, right?
04:07 I like Dan Campbell. I prefer that demeanor if I was being coached by him, but man for my team
04:14 I kind of like the conservative approach I do I
04:17 Think it's fair to even wonder like to question both of them like both of them have shown
04:22 No, we're actionable judgment under extreme pressure Kyle any number of times and Dan Campbell
04:30 Famously a few weeks ago against Dallas. Yeah. Yeah
04:33 People that watch that game will never ever forget that about him
04:37 it was cool going for two the first time going for two from the seven is something I've never seen before the game on the
04:43 line and
04:44 He the football guys bailed him out
04:46 Even though he was gonna do it and he still didn't read the room. You don't mean it was like divine intervention
04:55 They're like no no no no no, it's like Pulp Fiction. No don't fire, but no can't let this happen
05:00 He's like, thanks. I didn't I didn't read the tea leaves trying again
05:03 So, yeah, I don't really both of them or do you really trust them under pressure I don't know
05:10 Yeah, it's not like they're any reader or John Harbaugh who's like proving it they can do it neither one
05:17 You know, you know what? I find interesting about both them though if I were to look at Brock Purdy and Jared Goff
05:23 They're kind of the antithesis of their coach
05:26 Where Dan Campbell's like loose flying by the seat of his pants and Jared Goff is very even keel
05:32 Just does his job if it checks down there
05:35 He's gonna take it to our Brock is like hey
05:37 I'm I'm a gunslinger and he does play that way a little bit and then you got Shanahan who's like, hey, no
05:43 I mean, we're just buttoned up over here. So it's funny how the quarterback is a direct contrast to them. Yeah. Yeah
05:50 Yeah, there you go. Yeah, they
05:52 Fans would love that
05:54 They'd be really happy he's so happy about that
05:56 But you you're close with Lions content creators right there. They're pretty much under the impression that Goff is better than Purdy
06:03 They are. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they believe that which is understandable. I mean their lines fans and he's a veteran
06:10 accomplished more
06:13 Yeah, he's definitely accomplished more. I
06:15 I'll take pretty skills. No, Brock. Oh that
06:21 I'll take Purdy skill set because he can get mobile and Goff
06:26 Falls like a sack of potatoes if anybody's near him, so no, I'm good
06:30 You
06:32 (upbeat music)
06:35 (upbeat music)
