00:00 Fishing goes right through the social fabric, the cultural history of Cornwall.
00:06 It gives us our identity as county.
00:09 Fishing's my life.
00:10 I don't know what I would do without it.
00:12 It's the heart of the village here.
00:14 I love to keep the tradition and the family tradition going.
00:17 These boats are a huge part of the community.
00:19 Cadwith without the boats and the fishermen would be a totally different village.
00:23 It keeps you alive, keeps you on your toes as well.
00:25 Continually learning.
00:26 I like the challenge of fishing.
00:28 I'm feeding people, I'm catching some of the finest seafood in the world.
00:31 That's what gets me out of bed at three o'clock in the morning.
00:34 In Cornwall we've got a really diverse fleet and the main reason for that is that we have
00:38 a highly mixed fishery, a very productive fishing ground surrounding our coast.
00:43 Seafood is key to the Cornish brand.
00:45 When I go to see customers in London, every single menu has Cornish fish on because of
00:50 the consistency of the product and the story behind it.
00:52 Tourism and gastronomy in any world class destination go together and that's absolutely
00:58 true for Cornwall.
00:59 When tourists come and they want to see the harbours, they like to see the carriages that
01:02 are there.
01:03 Tourists will come down to the quay and see you land your catch.
01:06 They like to see the harbours maintained and fishing pays for that and they want to eat
01:10 really great food that's been caught in the ocean that they can look at quite often, looking
01:14 over it from a restaurant and they'd like to know that it's been caught locally.
01:18 That's something really unique to Cornwall.
01:20 Cornish fishing is sustainable fishing.
01:21 And I think it's important that we keep this option of a career open for people to work
01:26 with nature.
01:27 It's real life, it's raw and it's what fishing should be, feeding people.
01:32 We have a consistent supply of about 50 different species throughout the year being landed into
01:36 our main market.
01:37 You look at the economics, very, very important.
01:39 A lot of jobs are involved.
01:41 So many people's lives are dependent on it.
01:42 There's so many shore crew, you've got the fishermen, all the different sectors that
01:46 are involved in it, the drivers, the packers.
01:48 It doesn't just affect the fishermen, it affects everybody.
01:52 It is the core to my business.
01:53 I operate a seafood eatery.
01:55 Without fish I wouldn't have one.
01:57 It supplies a lot of restaurants, but most importantly it supplies a great story for
02:02 Cornwall to own.
