UN appeals for urgent humanitarian assistance as war rages on in Ukraine

UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi has spent a week visiting several towns affected by the war with Russia.

00:08 The call was made by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, following a
00:12 week-long visit to the country, where he visited several areas affected by the war, such as
00:17 this town attacked by drones a few weeks ago.
00:22 This couple was at home when the attack occurred.
00:24 The house was destroyed.
00:37 UNHR was able to immediately help the family by assisting them in putting glasses in windows,
00:46 for example.
00:47 It's very, very cold here in Ukraine in winter, but also helping them with fixing the ceilings
00:55 and cleaning up the rubble.
00:57 All the things that people have to do immediately in order to be able to continue to live.
01:03 The United Nations and its partners have requested about 3.8 billion euros from the international
01:09 community to cover the cost of aid operations in Ukraine this year.
01:15 This will help almost 11 million people directly or indirectly affected by the military aggression
01:20 launched by Russia almost two years ago.
01:23 But this aid is 26% lower than in 2023.
