00:00 Despite the Animal Welfare Act prohibiting the killing and eating of dogs,
00:05 the dog meat trade in the country is still a problem.
00:09 This is Marisol Abduraman.
00:11 In this video from the Animal Kingdom Foundation,
00:18 you can see the dogs being tied up in a sack.
00:21 The dogs are being brought to Nueva Ecija to be slaughtered.
00:24 Their looks are pitiful and it's obvious that they have a hard time breathing.
00:29 Aside from that, there are other incidents that we have already mentioned,
00:33 including the Animal Cruelty.
00:34 Like in April 2022, when the dog was killed by a dog in San Eldefon, Subulacan.
00:40 During the discussion of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
00:44 and the Animal Kingdom Foundation, the two dogs were killed by the dog.
00:48 These kinds of incidents are what the Animal Kingdom Foundation wants to end.
00:55 That's why they created a National Forum for this.
00:58 They admitted that the killing of dogs is not that easy.
01:01 The dog's food is already eaten.
01:05 It's not really a food, but it's still part of their culture and tradition.
01:11 Aside from the dog's income,
01:14 the dog meat trade is also a problem for the operations against the killing of dogs.
01:21 They slaughter the dogs in hidden places and they slaughter the meat.
01:30 If it's not cooked, it's meat or worse, it's mixed with goat meat.
01:37 Even so, the number of cases is decreasing compared to the past year.
01:40 In the past, we were able to rescue 600-300 dogs in one trip or one travel.
01:48 But now, it's just a little bit.
01:50 An international animal advocate group is also involved in the actions of the Philippines
01:56 to stop the illegal trade.
01:58 Philippines is just on the cusp of greatness in achieving a complete stamping out of dog meat trade
02:06 as compared to other Southeast Asian countries.
02:09 For GMA Integrated News, Marisol Abdurrahman is your witness.
