Rounds of rain will cause problems for some ski resorts this weekend. Here's what you can expect throughout the northwestern U.S.
Transcript
00:00 From ice fishing to the slopes where it was a foggy day for skiers at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, New York.
00:06 The slopes in the east may get some fresh snow this weekend though, while those in the west could get a little soggy with storms and rain.
00:12 Christina Schallhoop shows us the conditions in tonight's ski forecast.
00:16 Skiers and snowboarders, the northwest forecast is a little tricky, I'll tell you that much.
00:21 And as we dig into it, you'll see why. And we'll start with this.
00:24 We have seen some pretty decent snowfall into the Cascade Mountains, into the northern Rockies as well.
00:29 The Bitterroot Range, the Lewis Range, it's been an okay winter.
00:32 Has it been blockbuster, record setting? No.
00:35 But we've done better with our last few storms.
00:37 But that's kind of over at this point.
00:39 Now we are looking at more storms coming into the region, but a lot of them are kind of warmer.
00:43 And unless you're in the really high elevations of the mountains, it's not a pleasant forecast, especially as you get closer to the coastline itself.
00:51 Now big sky further inland in the interior northwest, not too bad honestly.
00:55 We've got a beautiful day on Friday, a bluebird day, 32 degrees, freezing on the dot.
01:00 And if I had to pick a place to ski this week, I think this would probably be it.
01:04 It is one of the many mountains on my bucket list. One step at a time. We'll get there.
01:08 Saturday and Sunday, more in the way of cloud cover though.
01:10 And you can see the temperatures are rising as we see a little bit more warm air trending into the region.
01:15 But again, we are dealing with more clouds.
01:18 That said, it's not pouring, it's not a blizzard, it's not a total disaster of a weather stretch.
01:23 So you can get out, I suppose.
01:25 White Pass, not as nice. You can see why.
01:27 Look at Saturday here as our next storm brings rounds of rain back to the Cascade Mountains.
01:31 And we have had rain in and out of Washington throughout the last few days.
01:34 But the Cascade Mountains have been a little tricky.
01:36 Once you get to about 4,000 feet, we've been seeing that snowfall.
01:39 But considering how warm it is and will be over the weekend, rain is going to be the name of the game.
01:44 Friday is the day to get out if you can.
01:46 Sun Valley, Idaho, not too bad. We're avoiding the worst of the weather here, but more cloud cover as we move through the next few days.
01:51 I have to say, actually, Sunday doesn't look too bad at all.
01:54 41 degrees, I'm not going to call it t-shirt weather, but hey, maybe if you're brave enough and the wind doesn't bother you.
01:59 It is going to be a cloudy day, though.
02:00 Finally, Mount Hood Meadows, I'd say the worst of the bunch, with not only warmer temperatures,
02:04 which is not ideal for snowmaking or anything like that, but that's out the window because of the rain.
02:09 It's the rounds of rain that are going to be your biggest problem at Mount Hood Meadows as we head through the weekend.
02:13 Thank you, Christina.
