00:00 Did you or did you not sack the post office chair?
00:05 Yes, we had a conversation and we agreed that it was better that the post office had new leadership going forwards.
00:13 So just to be clear, that was a sacking because the statement you've got says by mutual consent.
00:20 I mean, you know, when you send your kids to bed and they go up, it's not by mutual consent, isn't it? It was a sacking.
00:27 It is. It is. Well, with my kids, it is because they know they know that if they don't go, then there will be trouble.
00:32 But certainly in the case of the post office chairman, it was very sad that we had come to this conclusion.
00:39 And one of the things I think is important is that when we do need to have a change of personnel, that we don't hound the people or go after them.
00:48 The issues that the post office has go well beyond the Horizon scandal.
00:54 So this wasn't just about Horizon and the ongoing inquiry into the post office.
01:00 It's about the post office as an entity and especially the governance of it.
01:05 There is a board. There have been disagreements across the board.
01:08 And my view is that sometimes you just need a different person to deal with different issues.
01:14 There is a lot more media scrutiny after that ITV drama.
01:18 I think it is right that we are responsive to that.
01:21 And so I had a conversation with Mr. Staunton and we agreed that it would be right that he step down.
