00:00 House Speaker Martin Romualdez said that he is just a supporter of those who support the People's Initiative.
00:06 He said that after Senator Amy Marcos left the Senate,
00:10 the picture of those who are leading the People's Initiative along with Romualdez.
00:15 First news, Mav Gonzales.
00:17 In the very house where House Speaker Martin Romualdez is staying, this picture was taken.
00:24 In the house of Romualdez, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Representative Zaldico and Noel Oñate,
00:30 the lead convener of the group that is leading the People's Initiative.
00:33 Senator Amy Marcos showed the picture of the Senate hearing about the People's Initiative.
00:39 You said you never met the speaker nor Mr. Zaldico, our congressman. You're under oath, sir.
00:46 Yes, that was the time that I met with the speaker.
00:51 You said you never met him. You said he's just a congressman.
00:56 Yeah, because it slipped my mind.
01:01 It's okay. If you forgot, he's Speaker Martin Romualdez supporting your group.
01:10 He helped us in the signature campaign. Yes.
01:12 Okay. So it's very clear that Speaker Martin Romualdez is supporting your group.
01:17 He is all out behind the People's Initiative. Is that correct?
01:22 Yes, we coordinate with the speaker and the congressman in getting the 3% per congressional district. That's correct.
01:29 Oñate explained that Romualdez provided administrative and advisory assistance.
01:34 But they admitted that the signatures were created faster because of the help of the congressmen.
01:39 Senator Marcos also showed the Project People's Initiative that was being texted to the congressmen.
01:44 The instructions were written in the group chat where the signatures will be sent.
01:48 And those who will be involved in Project PI will be requested to pay P20 million.
01:54 You're confirming. I'm confused. You're confirming that it's the Politicians' Initiative.
02:01 No, they're just helping. But we're at the forefront of getting signatures.
02:08 I think there's nothing wrong with accepting help from congressmen.
02:16 We are against any form of vote buying, bribery or aid in exchange for signatures.
02:25 Anthony Abad, the petitioner with the written name in the People's Initiative form, was suspended by the committee because he didn't participate.
02:32 We are trying to get his money.
02:34 In the statement released by Romualdez, he confirmed that the Project PI, including Oñate, approached him for help in the townhouse of the Speaker.
02:44 But Romualdez only agreed to the Project PI and he's not the one who's leading the search for signatures.
02:50 He also has nothing to do with any illegal activity like buying signatures.
02:54 Some congressmen were defended by the House Speaker.
02:57 Like any Filipino meeting, it always ends with a picture.
03:01 So, for me, it shouldn't be taken with malice and the photo was just used for propaganda and for political gain.
03:14 In my district, Nisingco and other districts, no one asked for money. We didn't give money, especially the money of the government.
03:25 There is only one sure way to stop the People's Initiative and this I appeal to our friends in the Senate.
03:32 You pass your RBH 6 and the House of Representatives will welcome it.
03:38 When President Marcos was asked about Chacha in the middle of his state visit in Vietnam,
03:43 the President said that he is consulting with the leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives to resolve their dispute.
03:49 Now the best advice that we are getting, the best analysis and interpretation that we have is that the legislature is of a bicameral nature.
04:02 And therefore, that implies that they will vote separately. So how that will be done now is what we are trying to figure out.
04:13 When asked what will happen to the Project PI...
04:16 We don't know yet. We haven't made those decisions yet. But I think as of now, the People's Initiative is continuing but I don't know if that is still one of the options that remains to us.
04:36 President Marcos also said that their unity of Vice President Sara Duterte is alive, contrary to what some say, in the midst of the public outrage of Duterte and Marcos.
04:46 It is really not hidden that the unity of Marcos and Duterte has already been formed.
04:54 Well, it appears that that political marriage built on convenience and common interests has imploded before the public a little more than a year and a half since the last election.
05:08 GMI Integrated News tried to get the attention of VP Sara Duterte but she did not respond to our messages.
05:14 When former President Rodrigo Duterte's batikos, President Marcos, was about to rain, the President's brother, Senator Aimee Marcos, appeared.
05:22 What was your feeling when he was about to rain on your brother?
05:25 Nothing. It was crazy. That's all I can say. It was crazy.
05:32 Senator Aimee told that the son of the former President, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, approached her and called that day for President Marcos to rain.
05:42 I said, "Hey, what is that? Why are you saying that?" He said, "Sorry, sorry."
05:47 I was happy but I did not understand because of course, the one who really made the children's feelings fall, was his father and his sister.
05:57 This is the first news. Mab Gonzalez for GMA Integrated News.
