Watch: Portland's Jamieson Ballantyne on joining VFL club Geelong
Transcript
00:00 Thanks for joining us Jamison, you've signed with BFL Club Geelong for 2024, can you tell us about that?
00:05 Yeah I have, so I've signed at the Cats after being at the Dogs for two years.
00:10 I think it was just for me, it was cutting down the travel, being based in Geelong, I'm living in Geelong, studying, teaching at uni in Geelong.
00:19 So that's been probably my biggest thing is a lot of my life's in Geelong now, so reducing that travel to Melbourne has really helped me be able to focus on football.
00:28 And last year you had a bit of a foot injury, can you run us through that?
00:31 Yeah so last year I had bone stress in my right foot and had it the year before in my left foot, so it's been frustrating having those injuries on both feet.
00:41 I'm hoping this year, hopefully none of that, I'm feeling good and can't wait to get into it.
00:47 And you've been doing a little bit of work with the AFL program too, how exciting has that been for you?
00:50 Yeah it's been really good, it's a good opportunity, the Cats have been great with getting me down into GMHBA with the AFL boys, so getting that exposure has really helped me be able to grow my game.
01:01 I got obviously a bit of that at the Dogs but being based in Geelong has made it so much easier just to be able to be in there more frequently so I've been loving that.
01:09 Can you tell us a bit about what role you're hoping to play for the VFL team?
01:12 I'm hoping to play outside on the wings still, I think that's my one word, but I'm trying to build on my game, play off the half back flank and try and get some more run out of the back line.
01:22 So yeah I think that'll be my biggest strength is my run and carry.
01:26 Alright well it's best of luck Jemma.
01:27 Thank you.
