00:02 This is my color qualities.
00:04 You just have to find what colors work with it.
00:08 [music]
00:10 It's 2024 and according to Pantone, this year's color is peach fuzz.
00:16 It's a cute color, but does it suit a lot of people?
00:20 When shopping for clothes and makeup, have you noticed that there are certain colors that don't suit us or that we can't really force on ourselves?
00:28 Well, that's because skin tone matching is actually a thing.
00:32 Which means, there are certain colors that really suit different people.
00:36 That's what we'll be talking about today.
00:39 Hi, I'm Maureen Shrivers and I will be your host for today's episode of Straight From The Exit.
00:44 [music]
00:57 [music]
01:02 Today, we are joined by Ms. Ingrid Niedo Pagulayan and she will walk us through the process of trending color analysis.
01:10 So for those who don't know what color analysis is, let's go through it together.
01:16 [music]
01:29 Hi Ms. Ingrid, thank you so much for being here and for spending time to teach us about color palette.
01:35 How can we get that through the color analysis step?
01:39 Yes, so the process is finding out a person's color qualities and then their color patterns.
01:45 From that and with that knowledge, I teach them or I show individuals what is the right color set that would best complement their features and work well with their color direction.
01:58 Of course, we'll start with finding out temperature or undertone.
02:02 [music]
02:07 So we have here gray. This one I can immediately see it's a no.
02:12 Okay.
02:13 It does not bring out your best features.
02:16 However, with this one, suddenly it's like your skin came alive.
02:21 Yeah.
02:22 With this yellow.
02:23 Okay, next.
02:24 This kind of white.
02:27 I've always loved white.
02:29 You love white.
02:30 Let's look at the cream.
02:33 Actually, dear, the cream is so much better.
02:36 It's so interesting that you can really see the difference.
02:42 I saw the gray one earlier and it didn't match.
02:45 Yeah.
02:46 With this white, this one you could wear it but it's a color that's wearing you.
02:52 It's just sitting right there.
02:54 It's not bringing out your features because we want you to be in colors that you're the superstar.
03:01 But with this one, see it's white, it's softer, it's a cream but you don't notice the color first.
03:08 We still notice you.
03:10 Okay, so this one works really well with your undertones.
03:13 So we have a yellow, we have a cream.
03:16 Now this, I want to ask, what do you notice?
03:19 I don't think so.
03:20 I think it's too strong.
03:21 It is too strong.
03:22 Yeah.
03:23 It's too harsh next to your features.
03:26 But with this.
03:27 Green, yes.
03:28 Yes, look at how at home it is.
03:31 Yeah.
03:32 So this one's warm.
03:33 How about this?
03:34 I can see this.
03:36 Yeah, this one blends in my color.
03:38 Very well, yeah.
03:40 That's the peach.
03:42 This is the color of the year.
03:44 So you know, I'm the color of the year.
03:47 Right?
03:48 That just means you'll be able to buy a lot of peach.
03:51 More green, it's leaning more towards the warm.
03:54 Yeah.
03:55 So that's your undertone.
03:56 Okay.
03:57 Warm.
03:58 Okay, so we've established that.
03:59 Number one, warm.
04:01 So now, the intensity.
04:18 Yes, so now the intensity.
04:19 Don't just notice like, okay, so these are different shades of orange.
04:22 Let's focus on the intensity of the color.
04:25 Okay.
04:26 So let's put this on more green.
04:29 This one is a soft.
04:31 Like salmon.
04:32 Yes, I think it works well for you.
04:38 Next, we go up another level.
04:42 Moderate soft.
04:44 Yeah, I think you can still wear this without it being too overpowering on you.
04:50 But we go up one more step.
04:55 Now this is brighter.
04:56 Yes, it's beginning to become so much brighter than you now.
05:01 I like the middle one.
05:04 Oh, there's brighter.
05:05 Yes.
05:06 Oh.
05:07 Okay, so this one, it's just sitting right there next to your neck.
05:11 So this is the type of colors that they notice the color first, they just go past your face.
05:15 And you don't want to be in those kinds of colors.
05:17 Okay.
05:18 You want colors that just enhance you.
05:20 Okay.
05:21 There's another brighter or richer color.
05:24 So this one, it's too intense.
05:25 It's overpowering your feature in a way.
05:28 Yes.
05:29 You know that when you start explaining it, it starts making sense.
05:33 That's why sometimes we wear clothes and we're like, "Oh, it doesn't suit me."
05:36 But you have the same shape of body, but it's the color.
05:41 Yes.
05:42 And that's the nice thing also about color analysis when I, of course, educate my clients as well.
05:47 You begin to learn that, for example, cool is not better than warm, or warm is not better than cool.
05:53 Neutral is not better than those two.
05:55 You just begin to have that appreciation, "Oh, this is my color qualities."
06:00 Okay.
06:01 So you just have to find what colors work with it.
06:04 And then you begin to appreciate also the beauty in others.
06:07 What I love most about this is I think it makes it 10 times easier to shop.
06:11 Yes, that's one of the benefits.
06:13 You're not going to go to the mall and think like, "What color am I going to buy?"
06:16 No, you know exactly what's going to suit you, and those are the things that you're going to look for in a rack.
06:21 Maureen's intensity is soft to moderate soft.
06:24 Okay.
06:25 Okay, so now the next is color value.
06:40 So your color value, how light or how dark is the color pattern in Maureen.
06:46 So first, I want to look at her skin.
06:48 So for her, I see it as something in between a 6 and a 5.
06:53 And then we look at her brows.
06:56 It's dark, but not like this.
06:58 Maybe it's a 2.
07:00 And then your eyes.
07:02 Eyes would also be probably a level 2.
07:05 And then we look at the hair.
07:07 It's between a 4 to 5.
07:11 And then of course, there are highlights.
07:13 So it's within my range.
07:15 Okay, so taking all of that into consideration for her color qualities, I could tell Maureen is medium contrast.
07:23 Okay.
07:24 So how does that translate to Maureen when she wears clothes?
07:28 So your medium contrast.
07:29 When you combine your clothes, you take a cue from your natural color contrast and you combine that in your clothing.
07:37 So say for example, you wear something light.
07:42 Okay.
07:44 When we say medium contrast, it's a light and a medium color.
07:50 So something in between.
07:52 Light on light, so you can fade out.
07:55 But if we put a medium color, now it becomes more interesting.
08:01 What we're doing here is the color value.
08:03 Okay.
08:04 So yeah, it's not the color gray that we're draping on you just because it's how light or how dark.
08:11 Your color combination.
08:12 Okay, that makes sense.
08:13 Then I put another medium color.
08:18 Like charcoal.
08:19 Yes.
08:20 This one is still okay.
08:21 Yeah.
08:22 But once you go up to a light color, combine it with an extremely dark color, high contrast.
08:30 It's overwhelming.
08:31 It's overwhelming on you.
08:32 Okay, so that's how you combine your light and your dark colors.
08:36 [Music]
08:52 So now that we found out the color qualities of Maureen, so temperature, she's warm.
08:57 Intensity, she's soft to moderate soft.
08:59 And then her color contrast is medium contrast.
09:03 These are the warmer colors, but they're softer.
09:06 So this is the set.
09:07 Now it's just a matter of looking at what would be the best for her.
09:12 So we'll start with soft autumn.
09:16 These ones really look good.
09:19 I can immediately see colors you can wear.
09:24 Because for your set of colors, you will have your neutrals, and then you will have your lights.
09:31 You'll have like a set of reds and oranges, and of course your other colors.
09:36 Would you think Missing Grid that these palettes can also be aligned when you're choosing your makeup?
09:43 Definitely.
09:44 Yes.
09:45 So when I drape you with this one, so you see these ones like the pinks, the reds, your mix.
09:52 You can use these as your blushers, your lip color.
09:56 Ah, that's how you match it.
10:01 Missing Grid, now that I've learned a lot about my color palette through your color analysis,
10:06 I actually brought some clothes from my own wardrobe.
10:10 But of course, this is me still not knowing anything and what I've been buying for the past few years.
10:16 So can you help me figure out how to best style it or wear it?
10:21 Okay, so let's see what Maureen has here.
10:25 This is all cream black.
10:27 Yes, because you said you like your neutrals and you would default to them.
10:31 So Maureen mentioned, yeah, these are the pop of color that are really so bright.
10:37 And then of course, you see that even the fabric of this one, it adds to the intensity.
10:43 To be able to ground this color, it needs to be more mute in a way.
10:49 Yes, and then you see, right? The texture of this one.
10:53 Yeah, it is a blue, but it's not a blue.
10:57 There's a wash.
10:58 Yeah, it's a wash.
11:00 So you combine these two from your wardrobe, then it tones down how bright this is.
11:09 So it's not screaming, no?
11:11 Exactly.
11:12 My black dress, do you think it's nice to wear that with my cream coat?
11:16 Yeah, if we review what we learned earlier, this one is high contrast.
11:21 High contrast.
11:22 So how can you wear this, Ren?
11:24 Because this is a medium color, this is dark, there's your medium contrast.
11:31 So it's okay.
11:32 Thank you so much, Miss Ingrid. I will definitely take note of all of this.
11:36 And make sure that next time I shop, I take in the color analysis test that we just did.
11:41 And really consider it because it will help us a lot.
11:45 Miss Ingrid, where can they consult with you?
