00:04 Once he felt that leash get a little bit tighter
00:06 around his neck, he just started flailing all over the place.
00:09 Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:11 Lost hold of the leash, and he just took off
00:13 running as fast as he could.
00:16 Hey, buddy.
00:17 First day I met Weston, he was just
00:18 a very calm and friendly boy.
00:21 Want a treat?
00:22 He did everything you would want a stray dog to do.
00:25 He saw me, he saw I had trees, he came right up to me.
00:28 He was eating out of my hand.
00:30 I was able to pet him.
00:32 I'm thinking, oh, man, he's going to be a piece of cake.
00:34 Want the leash?
00:36 Soon as he saw the leash, he was like, nope, I'm out of here,
00:38 and left.
00:39 So I tried again the next day.
00:40 I was thinking, if I just cover his eyes for a few seconds
00:43 at a time, that could give me the chance
00:45 to put the leash around his neck without him seeing.
00:48 It took a little bit of time, but eventually he
00:50 was just where he needed to be.
00:53 It worked just like I planned.
00:55 It's OK.
00:56 It's OK.
00:57 It's all right.
00:58 And that's where things took an unfortunate turn.
01:00 Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
01:02 Settle down.
01:03 Settle down.
01:03 No, no, no.
01:04 No, no, no.
01:04 I was devastated.
01:05 I was really, really worried.
01:08 After I had blown it with the leash,
01:10 he wouldn't come to me anymore.
01:12 Is this your dog?
01:13 Yeah.
01:13 Trying to rescue him.
01:15 I couldn't be the one that would get him.
01:17 Hi, buddy.
01:19 Thankfully, somebody else stepped up.
01:22 When Sheila arrived, he was very calm.
01:24 We made no effort to try to get away.
01:27 We were able to keep him cornered and contained.
01:30 We didn't want to use the leash, so we split up a crate.
01:33 It just came a little tap on the bottom,
01:34 and he went right inside.
01:36 Good boy.
01:37 The leash was our biggest hurdle.
01:45 He was terrified of the leash, so we took things extremely slow.
01:50 Mr. Tail Tuck.
01:51 We just let him let us know when he was ready to actually
01:57 move forward with things.
02:01 We used Ginger a lot on walks.
02:04 He follows what she does and realizes that things
02:07 are OK because she's OK.
02:09 And now he wags his tail when I get the leash out.
02:12 When he started doing zoomies, that's when he let it all out.
02:22 It was at that moment where I knew he was going to be OK.
02:26 We got him early December 2021.
02:28 He definitely made our holiday way more
02:31 adventurous and fun that year.
02:33 Weston, now Wesley, he didn't have a lot of self-confidence
02:37 when we first got him, and so we've worked really
02:40 hard to create that bond.
02:42 He definitely needs a little bit of a security blanket.
02:45 The instant connection between him and Izzy,
02:48 yeah, they just hit it off right away.
02:50 He's come such a long way.
02:52 Good girl, Izzy.
02:53 Good come.
02:54 Come.
02:55 Good come.
02:56 Good boy.
02:58 He's such a love.
02:59 He loves his people.
03:00 He loves his Izzy.
03:03 And he trusts us.
03:04 I'm just really proud of that.
03:06 For Christmas, I always get the dog stuff.
03:08 Oh, you get it.
03:10 We'll do a long beach walk and just quiet time.
03:23 That's kind of like our Christmas holidays.
03:26 Long day, but a good day.
03:27 Right, bud?
03:29 Yes.
03:30 Oh, very good.
03:31 Good boy.
03:34 Yeah, you too, baby.
