00:00 One of the benefits of shooting in Iceland is that the country is run on 100% clean energy.
00:05 Sustainable policies are key to Iceland's success.
00:10 We have ample resources of renewable energy.
00:14 63% of that energy comes from geothermal sources, the rest comes from hydroelectric.
00:20 Anytime that we were shooting in our stage facilities, which was quite a bit,
00:24 we were tied into the clean energy grid.
00:27 We're also piloting an electric battery-powered emissions-free generator called the Benarator.
00:34 Benarator is a great tool. It's silent and it cuts back on diesel or gas usage.
00:39 You are only running the diesel generators maybe for two hours a day instead of 12.
00:44 So the Benarator covers 80% of the power that it needs to do.
00:49 It also gives us the opportunity to use batteries, so when we're on set,
00:52 not only makes us quicker and more efficient, but it also allows us to reduce our footprint.
00:57 We primarily used EV and hybrid cars for self-drives.
01:00 As a matter of fact, we saved approximately 15,000 liters of gasoline.
01:04 Using this as a platform for the future is very important
01:09 and will play a big part in our role to maintain this level of sustainability.
01:18 It's kind of proving a point that there is another way of doing things,
01:22 that you can create stuff just as powerful and as poignant without leaving a scar behind you.
01:31 And what it is transmitting for the next generation of filmmakers
01:35 as an attitude towards how we create and how we tell stories that are both about
01:42 broken environments and the hope of fixing them,
01:46 and the effort to not break an environment in doing it.
01:50 Given the global climate crisis, it is time for all of us in this industry to
01:56 promote clean energy and to reduce the impact of our industry's carbon emissions.
