00:00 What would a loss mean for the 49ers?
00:02 Oh, man, all the things that we just said that you can say were the right moves, you
00:08 can now start to question.
00:11 And I think the biggest thing becomes this team had everything go their way this year
00:18 from the stance of the NFC is about as down as it's ever been, in my opinion.
00:26 Well, as a league is down really across the league outside of a couple teams, the 49ers
00:32 being one, the Chiefs.
00:33 I mean, we can even argue that this might be the worst team that they've brought to
00:37 the Super Bowl.
00:38 So this opportunity here, they cannot squander it.
00:42 And if they do, you start to look at some of these other teams, the Detroit Lions, who
00:48 didn't lose Ben Johnson, the Packers, who were the youngest team in the league, the
00:52 Hawks get a new coach, the Rams were already doing well.
00:56 I mean, you start to question everything is Brock Purdy, your long-term quarterback is
01:01 Kyle Shanahan ever going to win?
01:03 At what point do you say, Hey, this run at bat crew of, of the main cast of characters
01:08 on this team, they're just not good enough to win.
01:11 They're not.
01:12 And you have to start stripping away at this salary before you extend and pay and, and,
01:18 you know, keep players well beyond their prime guys like Kittle, Trent Williams, if he decides
01:23 to stay, um, Eric Armstead, Jayvon Hargrave, Kyle, use check.
01:30 I mean, there's so many questions that start to come into it.
01:35 If they lose, I mean, everything that we said good about winning now becomes a negative
01:40 if they lose.
01:41 Yeah, absolutely.
01:42 And you sort of question like the, the core, the foundation of what they're building, because
01:51 again, they've been running it back since they lost the super bowl.
01:54 And they keep saying like, yeah, we lost, but don't overreact.
01:57 We have it.
01:58 We have the winning formula.
02:00 As long as we stick with it, the luck will break our way.
02:04 Nick Bosa got held, Jaquaz Guitar dropped a ball.
02:07 This hadn't that happened.
02:08 But if they lose again, you start to question that, like, do you really have a winning formula?
02:14 Is this really a championship culture or do you have one thing wrong in your calculation?
02:21 They'll have to answer that.
02:24 Is it the quarterback?
02:25 Is the coach is defensive court?
02:27 What is it?
02:28 Why are you guys not getting over the hump?
02:29 Because is Armstead at the end is Hargrave at the end.
02:34 Is that Williams at the, like they've so many players who might be.
02:38 Done.
02:39 Yeah.
02:40 And you have to wonder guys like Kittle who just had a phenomenal year.
02:48 I'm not saying he's washed by any means, but do you trade them a year early versus a year
02:53 late?
02:54 You know, what do you do with Eric Armstead?
02:56 Same situation.
02:57 Yeah.
02:58 So there's, there's a lot of things that they'll have to figure out if they don't win a super
03:02 bowl.
03:03 I mean, you win, you win a ring and you've got all the validation and now it's like,
03:07 okay, we know we can do it.
03:09 Let's try to run it back and get this done again.
03:12 Smart move.
03:14 But to run back a losing team that you thought was the best and clearly was not the best
03:21 because you didn't win again, man's tough decisions start to have to be made around
03:27 here because players like IU do deserve to get paid.
03:31 Brock Purdy is going to get paid and you, you have to figure out how do you keep the
03:37 vitality of this team long-term.
03:40 And the way you do that is by getting young and by getting as many draft picks as possible
03:46 to stay cheap, not by overpaying guys on the other side of 30.
03:52 That's, that's not what you do when you lose super bowls.
03:54 That's what you do when you win super bowls, hoping you can get another one.
03:57 So the opposite of what you would do if you win kind of has to happen if you lose.
04:02 They'd have to shake things up.
04:04 They couldn't say, let's just run it back one more time.
04:07 It's, they have to really shake things up.
04:08 Yeah, you're right.
04:09 Like you can't continue to spend all this money on George Kittle.
04:13 If you can't afford Brandon, I, you have to prioritize the younger players and they haven't
04:19 had them like that many good draft picks the last few years.
04:21 So yeah, all of a sudden there'd be a ton of pressure on this upcoming draft.
04:26 Tons of pressure, tons of pressure and they can run it back, but they're not going to
04:33 be anywhere near a favorite if they do.
04:35 I mean, too many teams are on the come up right now and the 49ers seemingly would be
04:40 taking a backstep.
04:41 I mean, the gap would be closed.
04:43 That's how fast the league changes.
04:45 The league changes overnight.
04:46 And right now they're in a very, very sweet spot where they're clearly the best team in
04:51 the NFC.
04:52 I don't believe that happens.
04:53 I think you can even question, can they win the division if they don't win this super
04:58 bowl?
04:59 It would be helpful if they just won it.
