The HP Omen Transcend 14 is a gaming laptop that doesn’t look the part. Though it sports RGB lighting on its keyboard, it could be mistaken for an ultraportable. In fact, HP is marketing it as “the world’s lightest 14-inch gaming laptop.” It’s a fetching machine that won’t look out of place at the office or home.

Other than its design, the HP Omen Transcend 14 differentiates itself by packing a new Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” chip. This processor’s NPU can handle the processing necessary to run a streaming application like OBS while the laptop’s CPU and GPU can focus solely on whatever game you’re playing. This could be a selling point for those who stream to platforms like Twitch.
In this video, I go hands-on with the HP Omen Transcend 14 and discuss its design, specs, and how its Intel Core Ultra processor can benefit streamers.

00:00 very sleek design. What's cool about this laptop is that it has a Meteor Lake chip, which has
00:05 NPU, which means AI tasks. So what we're seeing right now is this is OBS running and OSAS camera
00:12 effects running. For you who may not know, an NPU runs AI specific tasks, which means that
00:18 these tasks don't have to run off the CPU or the GPU. Typically, AI tasks are very intensive.
00:23 They'll just drain a laptop's battery, take a lot of power. But with the NPU, those tasks are just
00:28 relegated to that specific part of the chip, which means you'll get better efficiency when it comes
00:33 to battery. And it means that the CPU and the GPU don't have to worry about that stuff, which means
00:38 you'll get better gaming performance. This is Cyberpunk. This is a game that typically doesn't
00:42 run very well unless you jiggle around with the settings. But we are getting between 70 and 90
00:48 frames a second, even with OBS and camera effects on. That's pretty impressive for Cyberpunk. So in
00:54 short, if you're a streamer, this laptop will benefit you because you could have OBS, your camera
00:58 running, anything else in the background, have the NPU handle those tasks. And that means the game
01:03 itself will just run off the CPU and GPU, which means better performance. So spec wise, we're
01:08 looking at a 14 inch OLED display, 120 hertz a second, which means everything is going to be
01:13 running buttery smooth. GPU wise is up to a 4070, which I personally feel hits that sweet spot of
01:20 performance and cost. What I like about it is that it is a gaming laptop. You still have your RGB and
01:26 all that. You can see it better this way, but it's not like loud in terms of visuals. It's just really
01:31 nice and sleek, beautiful looking laptop here. HP says this is the lightest 14 inch gaming laptop.
01:38 And obviously we got to get it into our lab test to check, but it is very, very light. You carry
01:43 this around, which I personally like. If you guys remember old school gaming laptop, it was big and
01:47 bulky. This doesn't even barely look like a gaming laptop, which I personally like. All right. So
01:52 that was our first look at the HP Transcend 14 gaming laptop. I think it's cool, but I want to
01:57 know what you think. So make sure you hit us up down below. Once the rest of our CES coverage,
02:01 make sure you follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Once again, I was Tony Polanco,
02:05 and I'll see you next time. Later.
