A new installation at Tate Liverpool has been created using material from their Albert Dock home which has been closed for redevelopment. Currently based at RIBA North on Mann Island, RESOLVE has been working with communities across Liverpool to redistribute and re-use materials.

00:00 Since the temporary closure of Tate's gallery on the Albert Dock, Design Collective Resolve
00:06 has been collaborating with creative organisations in Liverpool to redistribute the building
00:12 materials and resources.
00:14 So when we were going around the Tate building, something that really struck them was the
00:19 lockers that were used by Tate staff. A lot of them had been there for, you know, like
00:24 35 years. So they wanted to use these lockers in the exhibition because you can kind of
00:31 like open them and discover bits and bobs really around the show. And this is really
00:37 what you do in this exhibition actually. So within the lockers you have some objects that
00:42 have been lent by the different organisations that we've worked with, but they are also
00:47 parts of Resolve's collective story.
00:50 You get a car, everybody gets a car. It extends way beyond the walls of the gallery.
00:55 This exhibition at Tate's temporary home at Reba North in Man Island documents this process
01:01 and the project explores resource sharing and finding new ways of working sustainably.
01:06 Our ethos, our practice as Resolve is always about celebrating the local knowledges and
01:13 local practices and local materials as well. And so we thought that to interact with the
01:19 objects or interact with the show only made sense.
01:22 Resolve Collective are an interdisciplinary design collective combining architecture,
01:27 engineering, technology and art to address current social urgencies.
01:32 I think playfulness is something that we really wanted to speak to and also to represent and
01:38 visualise within the show. I think it's been very central to all the conversations we've
01:43 had also with Liverpoolians that there's this open friendliness that we've been able to
01:50 sort of be invited into and that's where that sharing of stories and then the retelling
01:56 of the stories has been within the show.
01:59 The heart of the project sees Resolve Collective working and designing in some community spaces,
02:06 donating specific materials and organising giveaway events.
02:10 We really wanted the show not to be traditional like museum show where you walk around and
02:16 you don't touch anything but it's a space that we're inviting people to inhabit, we're
02:20 inviting people to interact with. There's a table for example in the centre of the space
02:25 where we just want people to come and do whatever they want to do in this space. So if you have
02:30 a knitting club you can come in, you know, like do your knitting practice here. If you
02:35 want to have a meeting with whatever group you have you can do it here. This space is
02:39 really completely open and is very much in line with how Resolve Collective think about
02:44 this project.
02:45 You get a car, everybody gets a car. Resolve Collective exhibition will run until mid-July
02:51 in two phases. The first you see here, the second is a tactile and interactive installation
02:58 which will be built in the Winter Garden at Manor Island.
