Dezzy Renee went viral in 2021 for her resemblance to the American Rapper Cardi B. Dezzy is a mum, full time student, aspiring musician and TikTok influencer who first realised that she looked like the rapper when a colleague at work said she looked like her. Dezzy didn’t see it herself but when she started wearing wigs, people noticed more and she began to grow a following online. She made a few videos singing some of Cardi B’s songs and blew up over night and woke up to 40,000 followers. Her following has now grown to over 800K on TikTok and she now posts a variety of videos including her own music and showing off different wigs. Dezzy said “I ended up getting more and more followers and I quit my 9-5 job”. Dezzy believes the wigs really make her look like Cardi B “I think the wigs is what really makes me look like Cardi a lot more. I didn’t want to be paying $500 on a wig, so I became a wig influencer”. Her videos gained the attention of blogging site Hollywood Unlocked and even Cardi B herself, who posted Dezzy on her instagram and tweeted about her. Dezzy said “Cardi B has re-posted me plenty of times, she shows me a lot of love which I do support”. As well as some positive reactions, Dezzy has had a lot of negative reactions to her videos. People have said she is forcing her voice to be like Cardi B and she just wants to talk like her. She has had comments saying that she is “the Cardi B from Aliexpress”. Dezzy doesn’t let the judgement get her down “I look at hate as you giving me attention you bringing me up, I’m gonna be successful and you helping me”.

00:00 What's up? It's your girl Cardi B.
00:02 No, I'm just playing. It's Desi Renee.
00:04 [Bleep]
00:05 My TikTok blew up because I look and sound just like Cardi B.
00:08 On this video, I got 5.2 million views.
00:11 It just started blowing up. It just started going crazy.
00:14 I ended up quitting my 9-to-5 job.
00:16 You really look like Cardi.
00:17 You look like her. You sound like her.
00:19 Oh, my God. I can't believe, like,
00:20 you sure you're not related to her?
00:22 Hey, y'all. It's your girl Desi Renee,
00:24 and I went viral on TikTok for looking
00:26 and sounding just like Cardi B.
00:28 The first time somebody told me was when
00:30 I was working at Winn-Dixie.
00:32 Some of my coworkers, they were just like,
00:34 "You know, you look like that girl Cardi B."
00:35 And I was like, "Who is that?"
00:37 Because I didn't watch that season.
00:39 So I went and looked, and I was like,
00:40 "Nah, I don't look like her."
00:42 I just didn't take it seriously.
00:43 And as Cardi kept getting bigger and bigger,
00:46 a lot of people were like, "You know,
00:47 you really look like Cardi.
00:48 Like, you look like her. You sound like her.
00:50 Like, oh, my God. I can't believe, like,
00:52 you sure you're not related to her?"
00:53 So I'm not related to Cardi.
00:56 At least I don't know if I am.
00:57 I don't know. I don't know. Maybe.
01:00 So this was when Cardi collaborated with Fashion Nova.
01:03 And then I had two WAP outfits.
01:05 They're kind of, like, dingy
01:06 'cause I wore them so many times.
01:08 But, yeah, they're cute.
01:09 Cardi likes to wear, like, tight stuff, dresses.
01:12 So I kind of wear stuff like that.
01:14 Similarly, I've seen her wear this design a couple times,
01:17 which is actually one of my favorite designs.
01:19 I really love this.
01:21 I bought these for my birthday.
01:22 I wore them for a video, but that's it.
01:24 I love pink. Pink and red is my favorite color.
01:27 I just like stuff that makes my skin vibrant.
01:29 Everyone knows I love pink.
01:31 I'm a girly girl.
01:33 I really love Cardi B.
01:34 Like, even before I blew up,
01:36 I'm like, I wanted all the merch 'cause I want to support her.
01:39 Like, she's my favorite artist.
01:41 I got both of them because it was two different covers.
01:44 So I had to get both of them.
01:45 June of 2021, I started to blow up on TikTok.
01:48 I replied to a comment of someone saying,
01:51 "I sound like Cardi B."
01:52 And I just went and did my voice over one of her songs.
01:56 It was the song "Press," and it just started blowing up.
01:58 It just started going crazy.
02:00 And after that, I started getting a lot of followers.
02:03 I just kept making more content.
02:04 I ended up quitting my 9-to-5 job,
02:07 went to school full-time, and here I am.
02:09 And I'm still on TikTok.
02:11 800,000 followers.
02:12 On this video, I got 5.2 million views.
02:15 So I see a lot of people being like,
02:17 "Well, you look like Pinkie Doll."
02:19 And I don't really think I look like her.
02:20 She is beautiful, by the way,
02:21 but I really don't think I look like her.
02:22 But I do love watching her lives.
02:24 But she's like, "Mm, ice cream's so good."
02:27 So when you go to the comments,
02:28 it says, "If Pinkie Doll and Cardi B had a baby,
02:31 you sound like Cardi B."
02:33 Sound like Cardi B.
02:34 You sound like Cardi B.
02:36 Oh, my God.
02:37 You sound like Cardi B.
02:39 They say a lot of things.
02:40 They say, "Cardi B from Walmart, Cardi B from AliExpress.
02:44 You could never be Cardi B.
02:46 You're just a wannabe."
02:48 The list goes on.
02:49 I don't care.
02:50 I look at hate as, like, you giving me attention.
02:53 You bringing me up.
02:54 So you doing what I need you to do.
02:56 I'm gonna be successful, and you helping me.
02:58 You getting me views.
03:00 You helping me getting brand deals.
03:01 So if you keep hating on me, keep doing it.
03:05 It's like, it's not affecting me.
03:07 I used to really care what everybody thought
03:10 because I was pregnant at the time,
03:11 and I used to go in, I used to delete comments.
03:14 I used to filter out certain words
03:16 so people couldn't comment, like,
03:18 "Oh, you're a wannabe," and this and that.
03:21 I used to take it to heart, but now it's like,
03:23 I don't care.
03:24 I really don't.
03:26 Cardi B, she has reposted me plenty of times.
03:30 She has acknowledged my son.
03:32 She was like, "Baby E, your mom's lit,"
03:34 'cause my son's name is Elisha.
03:36 Which, she shows me a lot of love, which I do support.
03:39 I at least got, like, 20 wigs right now.
03:41 I do sell my wigs, so if I didn't sell my wigs,
03:43 I probably would've had at least 50.
03:45 And I think the wigs is really what make me look
03:47 like Cardi a lot more.
03:48 So this one was a Cardi B-inspired one.
03:52 I think she performed at the BET Awards with this one.
03:55 Well, inspired one.
03:56 I did this one for when Cardi did the "Bongos" cover art.
04:01 I like this one, too.
04:03 I love color.
04:04 I like to be different.
04:05 I didn't want to be paying $500 for a wig,
04:07 and so I became a wig influencer.
04:08 Now I get free wigs.
04:10 I got my Cardi B red dress on,
04:14 and we about to go see Miss Fancy,
04:15 and she gonna do a Cardi B-inspired updo,
04:18 so stay tuned, y'all.
04:19 - Hey, girl. - What's up, boo?

04:22 - Yes, boo, let's go. - All right, come on.
04:25 Come on over here.

04:30 So what style are we doing today?
04:32 - Girl, we finna do the pin-up style.
04:34 - Okay. - Just like Cardi B.
04:35 - Okay. - You already know.
04:37 - I've known Desi for about three years now.
04:40 Her cousin, she came over to get her hair done,
04:42 and Desi came with her, so she came and showed me a look.
04:46 I'm like, "Yo, you look just like Cardi B."
04:49 So she started showing me TikTok
04:51 and her impersonation of it, and I'm like, "Yo."
04:55 She went viral for all of the videos that she's done,
04:58 and she wants to become a celebrity so bad.
05:00 This is right up her alley.
05:03 I've heard of Desi's music.
05:06 The first time I heard of it, I was like,
05:08 "You need some oomph.
05:09 "Give it some oomph."
05:11 So she listened to it, she called me back,
05:13 and she's like, "I got it, I got it."
05:14 And she called me and she sung it, and I loved it.
