00:00 Now that we're entering the offseason, let's take a look at some of the key players that need to return in 2024.
00:07 Here today to explore the future of Senator Frank Ragnow is All-Lion senior writer Vito Circo.
00:13 Vito, I'm curious, you saw just the amount of work and sheer effort it took to get Frank Ragnow out there playing in '23.
00:20 What do you think his future is for 2024? Is there a realistic opportunity or realistic potential that he could retire this offseason?
00:29 I'll say this to start. I think there's a chance, but overall-wise, you look at this guy.
00:36 And the fact is, he didn't say, by the way, retirement in his season-ending media session when he was cleaning out his locker and all that.
00:41 He didn't say the word retirement. He didn't say that, by the way.
00:44 Now, he's gone through a heck of a lot of injury since being directed by the Lions in 2018.
00:48 So that's a pure fact. There's no doubt about that being the case for Ragnow, what he's battled physically, mentally.
00:54 And he did indicate all that's taken a toll on him, on him and his thoughts regarding the game of football.
00:59 So, sure, it does affect potentially what he does in the future, whether or not he plays.
01:03 Specifically, though, for 2024, this upcoming season, John, while the Lions need him, and I think he views it like as long as he's healthy enough,
01:11 mentally equipped and ready enough to go, he'll play.
01:15 And I think, once again, as of right now, he will be playing in the 2024 NFL season.
01:20 Now, once again, he's battled numerous injuries. I mean, injury after injury, there's no doubt about it.
01:26 A lingering turf toe injury since 2021. He played through something in the NFC Championship game as well against the 49ers.
01:32 Had just suffered what, a sprained knee and ankle a week before the NFC Divisional Round playoff win against the Bucs.
01:38 But he gets back out there, plays in the NFC title game, plays all of the Lions' offensive snaps in that devastating loss to the Niners.
01:46 So, he wasn't going to miss that game. He really hasn't missed many snaps, once again, despite the fact that he's battled ailment after ailment.
01:53 So, he's really made sure that he could be ready enough to play.
01:57 Playing in the majority of games the past two seasons as well for the Lions.
02:01 Only four in 2021 because of that lingering turf toe injury.
02:04 But since then, he's played in the majority of his games. Specifically, once again, in 2022 and 2023.
02:11 So, once again, you can ponder him retiring potentially. And Brad Holmes said that he would give him all the time in the world to really think about what he wants to do in 2024 and not rush him along, which I love.
02:21 I love that being the case. But truly, when I look at everything, evaluate the situation for Rag now, I think, I really, really think, John, that he is coming back for another run for the Lions.
02:33 And a run at a Super Bowl.
02:35 Superbowl!
