00:00 All right, gentlemen, that line is good here.
00:03 So we have the full waistband again, full waistband here, gentlemen.
00:06 You got my instructions in the back.
00:07 Protect yourselves at all times.
00:09 Listen, my commands touch them up.
00:11 Back to your corner, gentlemen. Let's go.
00:13 Antonio Zepeda says I have a new trainer in my corner, Fareed Samad.
00:17 I was formerly trained by Otis Lee Pimpleton, who was mentored by Roger Mayweather,
00:22 but we parted ways after my loss.
00:24 I had no direction in my corner.
00:26 I was dealing with the come forward fighter, Tim.
00:29 After the fourth round, when he came to the corner, there was no stool.
00:32 He said, where's my stool?
00:34 I said, you don't deserve it.
00:35 Unless you go knock him out, you don't deserve it.
00:38 Hey, every trainer is different.
00:39 I wouldn't do that to my guy, especially if I know if I didn't teach him how to be able to deal
00:43 with a shorter opponent.
00:45 And that's the one thing that he said to us in the fighter meetings,
00:48 that he didn't know how to deal with someone that got underneath him.
00:51 You know, he's new to the game.
00:53 He has a couple of fights in MMA.
00:55 That was his first love.
00:57 Football was actually his first love, but as far as comebacks go, MMA was the thing.
01:01 And last time around, it was a fighter much like Lamar Isom Riley, shorter than him.
01:06 His name was Josue Vargas.
01:08 He says, I didn't know how to deal with that.
01:10 And every fighter that I hit with my best shots had gone down.
01:13 He suffered two torn ligaments in his right hand.
01:16 And he said, this guy just wouldn't go down.
01:18 And then the whole drama happened.
01:20 He says, I felt like my trainer gave up and I had no answers.
01:23 Yeah.
01:25 Now we'll see if training with Farid and working with Bones Adams
01:29 has helped him deal with a fighter who is coming right at him, Tim.
01:33 Tony, off the head.
01:35 Isom Riley came to fight.
01:38 Absolutely.
01:38 He came to fight and he's doing the right thing.
01:40 What he's doing is he's smothering Cepeda.
01:43 Not allowing Cepeda to get any distance.
01:45 Got him, go.
01:46 I'm pretty sure he saw the film of his last fight
01:48 and saw that, hey, close distance.
01:50 He doesn't know what to do and know how to shorten up his punches just yet.
01:54 He's still green in the game.
01:55 There you see a quick combination from Cepeda
01:59 as he tries to get Isom Riley off of him.
02:01 Yeah.
02:02 Cepeda's open for the loop in the right hand.
02:05 Either left hook or loop in the right hand.
02:07 Isom Riley, all he needs to do is he needs to jab to the midsection
02:10 so he can bring those hands down
02:11 and then sneak him right over the top with the right hand.
02:13 Isom Riley says, I'm going to work him to the body and break him down.
02:17 That's exactly what he's doing here early in this first round.
02:22 He's taking Cepeda back to where Josue Vargas took him.
02:25 Exactly.
02:26 And the fight is being fought, especially heavyweights.
02:30 They usually fight at a slower pace.
02:31 It's being fought at a fast pace because Isom Riley is pushing the pace.
02:35 He's forcing the pace on Cepeda.
02:38 Let's see how Cepeda responds.
02:42 Good jab from the outside, but again, when he jabs,
02:46 he's bringing his jab back low.
02:48 So if I'm Isom Riley, I'm looking for that right hand.
02:51 There it is.
02:52 Nice right from Cepeda.
02:54 Follows up with a right uppercut.
02:56 He sees that he can do damage,
02:58 but then Isom Riley understands if I stay inside,
03:00 I'm going to be in a better place.
03:02 And then he extends his arms.
03:03 Look, Isom Riley did a good job right there.
03:05 He took that punch well.
03:07 You can see his eyes kind of roll back a bit,
03:09 but he brought himself back.
03:12 And that has a lot to do with conditioning.
03:13 He's a guy that's ready for this fight.
03:15 He didn't just come in here to lay down.
03:16 He came here to fight well-conditioned, determined to win this fight tonight.
03:21 Bang, bang with a nice finish to this first round.
03:24 Good shot right there. Right hand downstairs.
03:28 Time! Right there, gentlemen. Good job.
03:31 Let's listen to the corner of Antonio Cepeda.
03:34 See how things go there.
03:36 Put your head up. Put your head up. Put your head up.
03:44 Listen, you ain't do nothing we worked on, okay?
03:46 You getting out here, now you acting like somebody else.
03:49 Just working what we did.
03:50 Straight down the middle.
03:51 Stop trying to lead with the right hand.
03:54 Just jab him and be big.
03:55 You don't lean down. Just be big.
03:57 When he comes forward, push him down.
03:58 Just jab. Thanks. Jab.
04:00 You got some good shots in there,
04:02 but you're going to let the little dude out hustle you.
04:04 Come on, now. You a tight end.
04:06 All right? Be big. We're going to get him out of here
04:08 if you do what I tell you to do.
04:10 Just be big. Just go forward.
04:13 Jab. Push him down. Turn him.
04:15 You know, don't lean down. Nothing on him.
04:17 Bang, bang, bang. One, two. Bang.
04:19 Step over. Add your three-two.
04:21 You got this. Let's go.
04:23 I ain't worried about this round.
04:24 Next one, let's go. You got this.
04:27 -Hey, speaking of young heavyweights,
04:29 there is Richard Torres Jr.,
04:31 the undefeated Olympic silver medalist.
04:35 Can't wait to see him back in the ring.
04:36 And, Tim, what did you think?
04:38 He can't say that he didn't get good instructions
04:41 in the corner this time around.
04:42 -Oh, it was great instructions, and he's right,
04:43 but his corner needs to understand
04:45 that he's at a certain level.
04:46 He's green, and he needs to be --
04:48 he needs to get comfortable in the eye of the storm,
04:50 and yet he's not.
04:52 You know, Isom Riley is smothering him,
04:56 so it's confusing him.
04:57 You know, he's not giving him the space to operate.
05:00 He doesn't know how to maintain his distance.
05:02 All he knows how to do is shoot a jab out there,
05:04 but he doesn't know how to control it,
05:06 control distance with his feet to get the proper distance
05:08 or step back at the right range and use his jab
05:11 and continuously use his jab to keep his distance.
05:15 -Tepeda, a young man who is used to overcoming adversity
05:18 outside the ring.
05:20 His father died in prison when he was in college
05:22 while serving a life sentence for murder.
05:24 His mom had died on his prom night.
05:27 -Unreal. -Homeless from ages 4 to 8.
05:30 Just said, "I learned to pull myself up all on my own
05:33 from a young age, going from group home to group home."
05:36 -That's unbelievable. -Here he is on the big stage.
05:38 -No, seriously, that's unbelievable right there.
05:41 You know, life is about making choices, man,
05:43 the right choices.
05:44 Sometimes, you know, we don't make the right choices
05:46 and things like this, that's what happens.
05:48 But I'm glad he was able to find himself and pull himself up,
05:51 and I'm glad that he's, you know,
05:53 moving forward in his life in a positive way.
05:56 -He actually had some legal issues
05:58 for something he did during high school.
06:02 He came back during the time he was in college.
06:04 It cost him a scholarship at U of A,
06:07 and he gets clipped with a nice right uppercut.
06:09 But he was a straight-A student to finish high school,
06:12 3.8 GPA and earning his criminology degree from UNLV
06:17 and really turned his life around.
06:19 -And now he's earning a butt-whuppin' right now
06:21 because he's getting beat to the punch.
06:23 -All right, stop, stop. No punch.
06:24 Straight back. Straight back.
06:26 Get up, get up. No, it wasn't.
06:27 Go. -Isom Riley.
06:29 -He wants a low blow. -Exactly.
06:31 -Thomas Taylor says, "No, that wasn't a low blow."
06:33 -Oh, yeah. It was a great sell by Thomas.
06:35 You know, Thomas is a great referee.
06:38 Fantastic. One of the best out there.
06:41 You know, some fighters will pretend he got hit low.
06:43 They get hit on the belt line,
06:45 and they pretend just to buy some time to be able to rest.
06:49 Zepeda right now, he don't know what to do.
06:51 He's flustered.
06:53 There's too much pressure on him,
06:54 and he's folding under the pressure.
06:57 -Got to do something there, Antonio.
06:58 Just can't hold. Let him go.
07:00 -Ooh, nice short left hook from Isom Riley.
07:05 Isom Riley is putting in on Zepeda.
07:08 -Go.
07:09 -Get him right there.
07:12 -Zepeda's going to have to find a way to dig deep here.
07:15 We'll be back for round number three,
07:17 but in tonight's main event,
07:19 after his last fight against Josh Taylor back in June,
07:22 Teofimo Lopez announced he was retiring from boxing,
07:25 but there was a special reason that made him change his mind.
07:30 -Time, right there.
07:31 -In my gut, I did really want to retire from boxing.
07:35 The six months that I needed was to find something
07:38 I was losing, and that was myself.
07:41 My son has a part of me.
07:44 In those six months, I found me through him.
07:48 Teofimo V, he carries my name next,
07:50 and that's more important than anything
07:52 that I've done in my career.
07:53 And that's why, mentally, I'm so much stronger
07:57 than I was in any other life that I've had here.
08:00 I focus so much on the political game
08:03 that I forgot the sport and how I was as a person.
08:06 And seeing that kid just going in there,
08:10 I'm like, "Yo, this is amazing."
08:12 Nice, Papi. Do it, Papi.
08:13 Do it again. There you go.
08:15 There you go.
08:17 I have a duty to really attend here.
08:19 It's the only reason why I'm back.
08:21 So if he is meant for boxing,
08:22 well, his daddy's gonna make sure
08:24 that he has a road safe enough to take,
08:26 and then he can follow it,
08:28 or he can do better than his dad.
08:29 That's the goal.
08:32 -A sport that has given Teofimo Lopez so much,
08:35 but it's also taken so much.
08:36 But here we see Dr. Leon asking Zepeda if he wants to continue.
08:41 -All right. All right.
08:42 My sleeve freezes me very little, okay?
08:44 That's why you stand with me.
08:45 -I'm gonna move. -You're safety first.
08:46 -All right. All right.
08:48 -Good? -Yeah.
08:50 -You see that Thomas Taylor, the referee,
08:54 the doctor, Leon, they see the same thing you see.
08:58 And let's see if that sparks a fire under Zepeda here
09:01 in the third round.
09:03 And it seems like it has. Some urgency.
09:06 -What they're seeing is a fight that's noncompetitive,
09:09 and they see one guy taking big shots,
09:12 and that's Zepeda, and they're worried about him.
09:15 And they're wondering, is it gonna continue?
09:18 And they're telling him right now,
09:19 "Hey, we need to see something."
09:23 There it is. -Oh, there it is.
09:24 -That's exactly what they saw.
09:27 That's exactly what they saw.
09:31 -7, 8. You okay?
09:33 Walk over here to me. Show me you can --
09:35 You okay? You want to continue?
09:37 Got to show me something here. Give me your gloves.
09:39 -Zepeda told us, "Football was my first semblance of family."
09:42 Torn MCL, meniscus, a broken tibia.
09:45 And he decided to get into boxing.
09:49 This is his chance to prove what he's got inside his heart.
09:54 -You okay, buddy? Talk to me. Look at me.
09:57 -Look at that. -Let him go, Antonio.
10:00 -Love the mechanics from Thomas, the referee.
10:03 Love the voice.
10:05 Not intervening.
10:07 Letting the fighter know what he's gonna do next.
10:10 Telling him to show me something.
10:13 -Giving him every opportunity. -I mean, he is.
10:15 -And giving Isom Rally every opportunity
10:17 to force him to stop the fight, as well.
10:20 There it is again.
10:21 He was on his way down, and the corner steps in.
10:25 Thomas Taylor hasn't seen him yet, but this fight's over.
10:29 As Thomas Taylor was counting down on the corner ring apron,
10:35 Fareed Samad and Dr. Leon were already on the canvas.
10:39 -What do you call a knee? -Knee?
10:41 -Sitting there at Florida College.
10:42 -Knee. -Ah, it's the knee of knee.
10:45 -When you're ready, there's a stool behind you.
10:46 Have a seat. -Again, in real time, man,
10:48 we in there, we warriors.
10:50 You got to go through a lot.
10:52 You might hurt your hand.
10:53 You still got to continue to fight.
10:54 You can make a choice if you want to lay down or not.
10:57 You know, a very difficult sport.
10:58 You got to be mentally tough in this game of boxing, seriously.
11:03 -But, Tim, real quick, he did suffer a torn
11:07 medial collateral ligament and a meniscus tear.
11:10 That's a pretty severe knee injury,
11:12 and he never went down from a punch.
11:15 Every time he went down, it was a delayed reaction.
11:18 He took a knee the first time, and then the second time,
11:21 the punch was coming, and he was already taking a knee.
11:23 -No, I get it, but all the punches
11:24 that he was taking up top,
11:27 it kind of pushed him out that door.
11:28 I mean, it made the knee pain even worse.
11:30 You know, at this level, I mean,
11:33 I know it's at the beginning level,
11:35 but at any level, you got to block that out, man.
11:37 You know, you have to block that out,
11:40 and if he had knee problems to begin with,
11:41 he should have been wearing a knee brace
11:43 or something like that, so.
11:45 -I definitely understand that part,
11:46 so Lamere Isom Riley comes in here,
11:50 and this young man, who is a vendor,
11:53 runs at 3 in the morning, goes to the gym at 6 a.m.,
11:56 gets to work, and goes to the gym again
11:59 from 2 to 6 p.m., all in search of a dream.
12:02 This was the first knockdown, Tim.
12:05 -He just went down.
12:07 -Look, he didn't like being hit, one.
12:11 Two, is it the right knee or the left knee?
12:15 Because he took a knee, so how you going to take a knee
12:18 when you got a knee problem?
12:20 -Well, you take the opposite. -Listen to me.
12:22 I think it was the pressure that was being put on him.
12:25 I don't think he was conditioned for this fight.
12:27 I think it was too much for him at this time
12:30 and this level in his career.
12:33 Let's give credit to Isom Riley.
12:34 Isom Riley came to fight.
12:36 You know, his resume is not so great.
12:40 However, he came to fight, he came ready, and he changed.
12:44 He changed what was supposed to happen tonight
12:46 because he wasn't supposed to win tonight.
12:48 Let me tell you that. He wasn't supposed to win.
12:50 Cepeda was supposed to win this fight.
12:51 -Well, Lamere Isom Riley proves
12:54 that nobody sent him the script,
12:56 and he comes out of here with a technical knockout win.
12:58 Let's send it up to Mark Chenook
12:59 for the official time of the stoppage.
13:01 -Ladies and gentlemen, here inside the Michelob Ultra Arena,
13:04 this bout comes to a conclusion at 1 minute,
13:07 28 seconds of round number three.
13:10 For your winner by technical knockout,
13:13 Lamere "Bang Bang" Isom Riley.
13:19 -So, Lamere Isom comes away
13:20 with the third knockout win of his career.
