00:00 You guys receive your instruction in just room.
00:02 I expect a clean, fair fight start to finish.
00:04 Your belt line here is good.
00:06 Anything below there is low.
00:07 Anything below there is low.
00:09 Good luck.
00:11 Javier Martinez told us,
00:14 "I learned a lot about myself
00:16 sparring Jaime Munguia for this camp.
00:18 It showed me that I belong with the bigger guys,
00:21 and when the competition steps up,
00:23 I'm good and ready for it."
00:25 He'll have an opportunity to prove it tonight
00:26 against Raul Solomon.
00:29 Solomon trained by Edgar "Seguita" Hasso.
00:32 A duel between a Southpaw and an Orthodox fighter.
00:35 Martinez, everyone was very high on him as an amateur,
00:38 Tim, number one in the country at 165 pounds.
00:42 He's had his ups and downs as a pro, though,
00:45 but now he says, "I'm disciplined,
00:47 and I'm ready to start this next stage in my career."
00:50 Yeah, and he's gonna have a tough out tonight.
00:52 Solomon, he can peak and punch,
00:54 and he's already closed the distance already,
00:56 and not many punches are thrown as of now from Martinez.
01:00 Martinez told us in the fighter meetings
01:02 that he's gonna have to box Solomon.
01:04 He says he's gonna have to be careful.
01:06 He's gonna test his power early, see what he can do,
01:08 and then he said he's gonna start opening up his attack.
01:12 However, he has to keep that momentum going.
01:14 He had a spectacular performance last time out.
01:17 Yeah, he got a vicious knockout over Isaiah Wise
01:19 in the first round, ended a five--
01:22 a streak of five straight decision wins,
01:24 but that was a dangerous situation he put himself with,
01:26 and Solomon landed a nice right uppercut.
01:29 See, what Solomon's doing, he's just getting off to the races.
01:32 He's not waiting. He's not trying to,
01:34 what you call, you know, test the water.
01:37 No, he's just jumping right into the deep end.
01:40 He's closing the gap. He's marching forward,
01:43 and it's pretty easy for him to get through that front door.
01:46 I mean, Martinez is right-- as of right now,
01:48 is not doing anything, not using his jab,
01:50 just using that high guard.
01:52 Solomon is just walking straight in.
01:55 Nice body work there from Martinez.
02:03 There he goes. He opens up.
02:04 Martinez finally found the spot,
02:06 the soft spot on Solomon, going down to that body,
02:08 coming around those guards.
02:11 Watch your head! Watch your head!
02:18 Nice work from Solomon.
02:19 Solomon, good defense, though, using that elbow as Martinez.
02:22 Got the long arms.
02:24 Got him, man. I'm waiting on the body shots.
02:26 I'm waiting on that body shot,
02:28 right to the solar flex from Martinez.
02:30 That's what I'm waiting on.
02:32 That's a punch that's open for him right now.
02:34 Straight right to the body from Solomon.
02:37 Breakdown Martinez, not letting him get off here early on.
02:42 Now, Martinez is playing defense right now.
02:44 He's catching right now. He's catching.
02:46 He's letting him wear down a bit.
02:48 Let's see if he opens up, though.
02:50 I mean, this could be part of his strategy.
02:52 Not get hit with the big shot early on,
02:54 start digging down to the body,
02:56 and slowly break down Solomon.
02:58 Third-eighth rounder for Javier Martinez.
03:01 Oh, that was a low blow from Martinez.
03:05 Solomon shakes it off.
03:08 Straight right from Solomon.
03:16 You're gonna lose round.
03:18 If you're not throwing, letting your hands go,
03:20 and you're just taking shots, you're not dictating,
03:22 you're not doing anything, you're not controlling much,
03:24 and then you explode every now and then,
03:26 guess who's gonna win that round?
03:28 The one that's been busy, busy, busy,
03:30 and that's been Solomon this round.
03:32 You know who's gonna have to keep that in mind tonight?
03:34 In our main event, Jermaine Ortiz
03:36 will be challenging Teofimo Lopez
03:38 for the WBO junior welterweight title.
03:42 This man gave Vasily Lomachenko
03:44 all he could handle in a tight loss,
03:47 and tonight is his first world title opportunity,
03:50 and he gets to go against one of the most dynamic
03:52 and explosive fighters in the world,
03:54 and Teofimo Lopez on the grand stage
03:57 right here on Super Bowl weekend
04:00 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
04:03 And we'll be listening in to both of our corners.
04:06 In Javier Martinez, we're gonna have Robert Garcia,
04:09 and in Raul Solomon's corner,
04:11 it'll be Edgar "Estrellita" Hasso
04:13 who's leaving with the ESPN+ ringside cover.
04:16 [whistle blows]
04:17 [bell dings]
04:26 All translators needed.
04:28 Use your right hand.
04:35 Push him back. Don't just stand there.
04:37 Use rhythm.
04:42 Keep pursuing him.
04:44 Don't let him get in.
04:46 Don't just follow him.
04:51 Right there. You gotta answer that.
04:54 Watch out for that counter.
04:58 Keep your left hand up.
05:02 Sit down on your punches.
05:04 Go after him.
05:10 Continue.
05:12 Don't get overcompany.
05:14 Let's go.
05:16 There you go.
05:29 Hop and step.
05:32 Close your guards.
05:36 Gotta throw more punches.
05:39 Land those uppercuts.
05:41 Touch him. Touch him.
05:44 Don't wait.
05:46 Turn him.
05:50 Combinations.
05:52 Not just one.
05:54 Gotta throw more combinations.
05:56 Go side to side.
06:00 Right there.
06:04 Don't stand straight up.
06:08 Take him backwards.
06:10 Push him back.
06:15 Go downstairs.
06:17 Watch out for the right.
06:19 Keep working.
06:21 Set up that uppercut.
06:24 You gotta throw more than one, Solomon.
06:30 Now go use that jab.
06:33 Use that jab.
06:38 You're there.
06:40 He's too slow for you, Javi.
06:43 There you go.
06:45 Close your guard.
06:48 Throw that two combination.
06:55 Double jab.
06:57 Use your right hand.
07:02 Get out of there.
07:05 Go downstairs.
07:07 So the body's in the uppercut.
07:10 Don't let him steal the round from you, Martinez.
07:13 There you go.
07:15 There you go.
07:17 Just keep doing it.
07:19 Way to go.
07:33 That's exactly what you gotta do, kid.
07:35 You see what happens?
07:37 Take a deep breath.
07:39 How do you feel?
07:42 Is he heavy?
07:46 He's only strong because he's heavy.
07:48 He doesn't hit hard.
07:50 He's too slow for you.
07:52 You just wait there for him.
07:54 I don't want to see that.
07:56 You gotta keep active with the jab
07:58 and then move and then snap it again.
08:00 You have to go first. He's too slow.
08:02 You go first and then you step around him.
08:04 Don't stay there.
08:06 That's the only time he has a chance.
08:08 When you stand right there, you have to turn him.
08:10 You have to turn him.
08:12 Don't let him just wait for you.
08:14 You gotta catch him coming in with the jab
08:16 and then turn him.
08:18 Robert Garcia as well as Robert Garcia Jr.
08:22 And we're back to traditional coverage
08:25 after hearing Español in the corners.
08:28 Use the jab. Use the jab first.
08:31 [Speaking Spanish]
08:33 [Speaking Spanish]
08:35 [Speaking Spanish]
08:37 [Speaking Spanish]
08:39 [Speaking Spanish]
08:41 Round 3 of schedule.
08:45 Tate rounder. You see Solomon still pressuring Tim,
08:47 but it was a great second round for Javier Martinez
08:50 as he let his hands go.
08:52 That's all he needs to do.
08:54 He needs to counter off those blocks,
08:56 catch and shoot.
08:58 That right to the body though from Solomon
09:00 really slowed him down here.
09:02 Yeah, you need to give him--
09:04 If Martinez wants to pull ahead in this fight,
09:06 what he needs to do is he needs to apply more offense
09:09 to that defense.
09:11 You don't get credit for defense.
09:13 You get credit for the offense.
09:15 And you see the busier fighter here,
09:17 the one that's taking it.
09:19 Watch your head, guys. Watch your head.
09:21 That's a nice short right from Solomon to Martinez.
09:24 However, Solomon has been pretty consistent
09:28 so far in this fight
09:30 in pressing and forcing the fight on Martinez.
09:34 Nice body shot there from Solomon
09:44 as Martinez continues to flurry over the top.
09:46 But that's what Martinez sees--
09:48 exactly what he's doing right now.
09:50 That's what he needs to do.
09:52 Get on the stick. Get heavy on your jab.
09:54 Get heavy on your jab.
09:56 Follow-up accommodations.
09:58 Anticipate what Solomon is doing.
10:00 We saw how effective the jab was tonight
10:02 for Charlie Sheen.
10:04 But you see, look, look, look.
10:06 All he just walked through the front door.
10:08 There's nothing that Solomon is doing
10:10 that's special to get on the inside
10:12 because Martinez is not giving him
10:14 anything to worry about.
10:16 He's letting him walk in his house rent-free.
10:19 He in the kitchen.
10:21 He upstairs. He everywhere.
10:23 He taking showers. He's doing whatever he wants
10:25 in his house right now.
10:27 Yeah, and Robert Garcia had asked Martinez,
10:29 "You gotta catch him coming in.
10:31 You gotta stop him as he's trying to attack."
10:33 And Martinez not doing that.
10:35 And Solomon having free range.
10:37 And see, Solomon is used to fighting at this pace.
10:41 Yep.
10:43 You know, you gotta give him something to worry about once.
10:45 You gotta break him down to the body.
10:47 Or you gotta hurt him with a big shot
10:49 to bag him off.
10:51 But this is the pace that he usually likes to fight at.
10:53 Nice, comfortable pace.
10:55 Let his hands go.
10:57 See, you see the firepower coming back.
10:59 And what do you see? Solomon putting his hands in his pocket?
11:01 That's what Martinez needs to do.
11:03 Get off and then move.
11:05 Get off and then move.
11:07 To be fair, both guys are
11:09 only efficient when they're throwing punches.
11:11 Because Martinez' defense is okay, but
11:15 it's not like he's dominating the fight
11:17 based on his defense.
11:19 Round 3 is coming to an end here.
11:21 And our Mark Kriegel
11:23 is with Keyshawn Davis
11:25 who opens up our ESPN show.
11:27 Keyshawn,
11:29 Keyshawn, Jose Pedraza
11:31 is a tough fight. I commend you for taking it.
11:33 What do you want people to see tonight?
11:35 I just want people to know that
11:37 I'm willing to fight anybody.
11:39 I'm not here to turn down no fighters
11:41 because I am a fighter.
11:43 And tonight, people are going to see what the business man is really made of.
11:45 He's crafty,
11:47 he's experienced,
11:49 he's been a champion,
11:51 but you saw something in him.
11:53 You saw a guy whose heart you can take.
11:55 I mean, I've seen something in myself.
11:57 So it's not really...
11:59 I don't care what opponent is in front of me,
12:01 I know what I can do at the end of the day.
12:03 Today, I'm going to say I'm the best 135,
12:05 and y'all are going to see.
12:07 Does this fight go the distance?
12:09 We're going to see, but just know
12:11 I'm going to be the winner at the end of the night.
12:13 Thank you very much, Keyshawn.
12:15 Fellas, back to you.
12:17 Alright, Keyshawn Davis will be opening up
12:19 against Jose Pedraza
12:21 when we move over to ESPN
12:23 at 10.30 Eastern, 7.30 Pacific,
12:25 wearing the Carl Weathers
12:27 Apollo Creed
12:29 "There is no tomorrow" t-shirt
12:31 in honor of the man
12:33 who passed away this week.
12:35 Just more of the same fight.
12:37 Really, no strategy
12:39 changed by either guy.
12:41 Martinez is doing the same exact thing.
12:43 Not able to establish distance.
12:45 Not able to establish a solid jab.
12:47 Or even movement
12:49 to be able to throw off
12:51 the game of Solomon.
12:53 Solomon is doing what he wants to do.
12:55 He's been doing it from the beginning.
12:57 He's been pressing forward, pressing the action,
12:59 letting his hands go at will.
13:01 Nice left hand from Martinez.
13:03 Can he follow it up? That was a low blow.
13:09 Now the offense is coming from Martinez.
13:11 Martinez is
13:13 posting with that lead hand. I'll see if the referee
13:15 is going to step in and say anything about it.
13:17 However, he hasn't done that yet.
13:19 Body work from Solomon.
13:23 But again, inconsistency from Martinez.
13:25 Yep.
13:27 Good body work there from Martinez on the belt line.
13:31 Clean shots.
13:37 There's that jab from Martinez that
13:39 Robert Garcia wanted him to see him catching
13:41 Solomon with as he was coming in.
13:43 Nice shot to the body from
13:53 Solomon.
13:55 That was a right to the rib cage.
13:57 Both are trying to break down the opponent
14:01 with body shots, Tim.
14:03 Yeah, we'll see how that plays
14:05 in effect with both fighters.
14:07 Now Martinez has been
14:09 landing some vicious shots around the guard
14:11 of Solomon.
14:13 Solomon's been doing really well
14:15 in the inside of the pocket as well, landing his own
14:17 body shots. You see some nice little short shots
14:19 in the inside from him.
14:21 But how can you have
14:23 a reach advantage, have the height
14:25 advantage, and not take the fight on the
14:27 outside, and you know how to fight outside.
14:29 And that's Martinez.
14:33 He's actually fighting Solomon in his own game.
14:35 Yeah, and here's Solomon pressing
14:37 him up against the ropes. That was a nice
14:39 shot that Martinez landed
14:41 and that Solomon
14:43 landed and Martinez needed a breather.
14:45 Nice flurry there from Martinez.
14:53 See, you see
14:55 when it's all at distance, you see what he
14:57 can do when he's extending with his punches.
14:59 That's where he's most dangerous.
15:01 Yeah, but then he stays there. He stays there
15:03 for a receipt or a return fire.
15:05 Nice short left from Solomon
15:13 and then here comes an answer from Martinez.
15:15 You want to land one, I'm going to land seven.
15:17 Good finish right here to the round.
15:21 Great end to this round.
15:23 Fight's starting to break out now.
15:29 Part of what Martinez
15:31 has been effective with, Tim,
15:33 has been the body work in this fight.
15:35 Yeah, absolutely. It's been the body work.
15:37 He's been trying to slow down
15:39 the more
15:41 stockier, stronger
15:43 Solomon going down to the body.
15:45 And that's the way you stop him from
15:47 grabbing the keys inside your house and taking your
15:49 call. You got to break him down to the body.
15:51 When Martinez
15:55 decides, that was on the hip right there, that wasn't
15:57 a knee load, that was actually on the belt line.
15:59 When Martinez decides to throw
16:03 and throw in combination form
16:05 out from just a little distance,
16:07 not so close, he's so successful.
16:09 But he's not able to maintain
16:11 that space and fight at the pace
16:13 that Solomon can fight at.
16:25 Halfway through this fight, we're starting
16:27 the second half here in round number five
16:29 of the scheduled eight rounder.
16:31 Solomon comes with
16:33 guns ablaze in the right uppercut.
16:35 But it's about
16:37 consistency here, and neither has been consistent
16:39 in terms of
16:41 dominating. Keep your mouth to yourself.
16:43 Solomon in there saying, "Yeah!"
16:45 "Yeah!"
16:47 Martinez, Martinez,
16:49 keep it up.
16:53 Nice right uppercut
16:55 from Solomon.
16:57 Martinez landing some clean
17:01 shots.
17:03 Interesting strategy.
17:05 It's a real interesting
17:07 strategy. He's making the fight harder
17:09 for himself.
17:11 Martinez is.
17:13 Ooh, there we go.
17:17 Opening up, letting it go.
17:19 That's it. There's a right hook
17:21 from Martinez.
17:23 It can be this easy, yet you want
17:29 to make it tougher.
17:31 See, I like that work. You saw how
17:33 consistent that was. Now you're going to see a small
17:35 little low because now he has to
17:37 recharge. Martinez.
17:39 But when he's letting his hands
17:41 go at the proper range, he doesn't give
17:43 Solomon an opportunity. And I continue to say
17:45 that. He doesn't give him an opportunity to land
17:47 anything. See, Solomon is going complete defense.
17:49 Now.
17:51 Nice body work from Solomon.
17:53 So, you being Martinez,
17:55 why stand there? Disengage and go
17:57 somewhere else.
17:59 Make Solomon come to you, like he's doing
18:01 there. And make him run into something. Bing!
18:03 Right hand to the body.
18:05 There's Solomon landing a nice right to the body, then going
18:07 to the head.
18:09 But it's all started with a strong
18:11 solid jab.
18:13 A basic fundamental.
18:17 Good shots.
18:19 Martinez likes to be in a war, and that's
18:21 what we have here in the fifth round.
18:23 Body shot from Martinez.
18:25 Good defense from Solomon to
18:27 parry that uppercut that was
18:29 coming with bad intentions from Martinez.
18:31 Solomon's starting to slow down
18:33 a bit. Jaded offense starting to
18:35 slow down a bit. Punches are not as
18:37 sharp. Body work maybe having
18:39 some sort of effect on him.
18:41 That's why he's going to the body as well.
18:43 Trying to slow Martinez down.
18:45 Oh, that hurt.
18:47 That hurt right there. That stab
18:49 down to the body with the left hand is nasty.
18:51 From Martinez.
18:53 That's up an overhand left from Martinez.
18:55 Good seeing an uppercut.
18:59 Good seeing an uppercut land for Martinez
19:01 soon. Ooh, that was a short right hook.
19:03 Solomon can take a shot though.
19:05 Solomon's leaning forward. Look at his head.
19:07 It's tucked down. His chin is tucked. Yeah, but
19:09 that uppercut is available for him.
19:11 That was a low blow. So Martinez is the one
19:13 that's talking. I thought it was Solomon.
19:15 It's Martinez the one that's
19:17 saying come on.
19:19 Good finish from
19:23 Solomon here as
19:25 Mark Creagle is with
19:27 the former champion Jose Pedraza.
19:29 Champ, he's younger.
19:31 He's strong.
19:33 You're the B side. How do you
19:35 win?
19:37 [Speaking Spanish]
19:41 Lots of pressure
19:43 and taking advantage when he makes mistakes.
19:45 What's the one thing that you cannot
19:47 afford to do in this fight?
19:49 [Speaking Spanish]
19:51 Not depend too much on defense.
20:05 Not rely on the defense. More on
20:07 offense, but not lose control of the fight and the defense
20:09 as well. No lows. There you
20:11 go, Timmy. He listened to you.
20:13 He's going to have to do more than that.
20:17 It's just not one thing you can do against
20:19 a young phenom like Keyshawn
20:21 Davis.
20:23 But he said in sparring
20:25 Luis Espada, his
20:27 stepfather, also said I never count
20:29 his punches in sparring. He averages
20:31 around 59 punches thrown per round.
20:33 He said he was throwing 145,
20:35 130, 100 plus
20:37 every single time. So at least he's
20:39 coming in with a different mentality
20:41 of being more offensive, which is what he needs.
20:43 He's going to need defense too because things are going to be coming right back at him.
20:47 Absolutely.
20:49 Round six here between
20:53 Martinez in the red and
20:55 gold trunks, taking on
20:57 Raul Salomon with the black and
20:59 gold trunks.
21:01 Nice right uppercut from Salomon.
21:03 Martinez catches him
21:05 with a strafing left to the body and then upstairs.
21:07 All the exchanging body punches, trying to set up
21:17 something over the top.
21:19 What he needs to do is set up the uppercut.
21:21 Salomon starting to really get over that.
21:23 There he goes. Nice uppercut right there.
21:25 Set up the uppercut. Anytime you see
21:27 someone's head, just lean in forward
21:29 over the center line. Now, the
21:31 center line just means from the floor to the top.
21:33 If you draw a line right between his body,
21:35 up and down to the floor, if his
21:37 head is leaning forward instead of
21:39 being projected up on the
21:41 center line, he's over his center
21:43 line, which making him available
21:45 for uppercuts.
21:47 Both over the center line at this point.
21:49 That was a nice uppercut from Martinez.
21:51 Coming around the guard.
21:53 Well placed body shot right there.
21:55 [crowd noise]
21:57 Good combinations for both guys.
22:07 That's a veteran tactic
22:09 right there. Leaning on him.
22:11 Trying to wear down his legs.
22:13 Trying to fatigue him
22:15 even more. Martinez
22:17 doing a good job right there. Veteran tactic.
22:19 There's another veteran tactic right there.
22:21 [crowd noise]
22:23 Solomon really slowed down, didn't he?
22:37 Yes. The body work. Not as active anymore.
22:39 That body work definitely now in effect.
22:41 It's funny because
22:43 it's like, it doesn't feel like sometimes
22:45 you can hit to the body, it doesn't hurt. However,
22:47 later in the fight, you start breathing
22:49 hard and you're saying, "Oh man,
22:51 my legs are heavy. Why are my
22:53 legs heavy?" Your power starts to go by
22:55 the wayside. And it just catches up
22:57 with you.
22:59 That was a nice shot before from Solomon as
23:01 Martinez got a little lazy trying to walk
23:03 away. Got clipped with a nice left to the
23:05 body, but Martinez sitting on
23:07 his punches here in the sixth round.
23:09 Nice straight left.
23:13 Just created enough space for himself.
23:15 Just a little bump
23:17 to get a little distance for himself
23:19 to land that left hand.
23:21 [bell rings]
23:25 Tonight's main event features Teofimo Lopez
23:27 and Jermaine Ortiz. They have a common
23:29 opponent, and it's Vasily
23:31 Lomachenko. In October of 2020,
23:33 it was a
23:35 slow start for Loma.
23:37 A great start from Lopez.
23:39 And then Lomachenko turned it on.
23:41 But it was that 12th round
23:43 that won Teofimo Lopez
23:45 that fight against Vasily
23:47 Lomachenko, and that was
23:49 one of the greatest victories for that
23:51 young man. And then Jermaine
23:53 Ortiz, two years later in October
23:55 of 2022, it was the
23:57 opposite. Loma got off to a
23:59 great start. Then the middle rounds
24:01 were competitive for Jermaine
24:03 Ortiz, and in that 12th round,
24:05 the first time going that distance,
24:07 Jermaine fell short. And that's
24:09 where Lomachenko put the pressure on
24:11 and took the split
24:13 decision victory over
24:15 Jermaine Ortiz.
24:17 And when you see that Lomachenko
24:19 had all he
24:21 could handle that night, a very
24:23 debatable win, you
24:25 just know that these two men,
24:27 based on what they did against Vasily
24:29 Lomachenko, it really came down to that
24:31 12th round. If you see just how
24:33 many punches they threw,
24:35 83 versus 122
24:37 landed for Teofimo Lopez.
24:39 He was more efficient, but
24:41 I think it was a closer fight
24:43 between Jermaine Ortiz and Vasily
24:45 Lomachenko.
24:47 Yeah, I mean,
24:49 look, you know,
24:51 we take in consideration
24:53 just the common opponent
24:55 and what each fighter has done.
24:57 You gotta understand that styles
24:59 make fights. Absolutely.
25:01 There's a lot of similarities between
25:03 the two styles that we have tonight.
25:05 They tend to make similar
25:07 mistakes, lunging,
25:09 dropping their hands as they're
25:11 entering mid-range.
25:13 However,
25:15 the sharper puncher,
25:17 the more precise puncher, the more
25:19 calculated puncher, the more
25:21 I'd say athletic fighter
25:23 is Teofimo Lopez.
25:25 And he's been tested, he's been proven
25:27 time and time again.
25:29 Whereas Ortiz has yet to
25:31 beat an A-class
25:33 or A-plus or A-minus fighter.
25:35 Absolutely.
25:37 And he did face Vasily Lomachenko
25:39 who had surgery on his shoulder immediately after the fight.
25:41 So that was another thing that we have
25:43 to take into account. And a year out of the ring as well.
25:45 Correct.
25:47 Nonetheless, Tim,
25:49 you and I know that A plus B
25:51 does not equal C in the sport
25:53 of boxing. It's not that easy.
25:55 There's levels to this game.
25:57 This is the big moment for Ortiz.
26:01 This is a huge test for him.
26:05 A shining moment.
26:07 It's a moment that a fighter waits on
26:09 his entire life to have an opportunity to face
26:11 to fight for a world championship, but also
26:15 to face one of the best fighters
26:17 in the world.
26:19 The shot to the back of the head
26:21 as Martinez is turning.
26:23 Oh, that's a low blow.
26:27 I heard that all the way down here.
26:29 But I can tell you this.
26:31 You also, at this level,
26:33 can quickly find out
26:35 if you belong at this level,
26:37 depending on how you perform in there.
26:39 So, if Ortiz,
26:41 if he does enough to
26:43 go the distance and look
26:45 somewhat decent,
26:47 he's at that caliber.
26:49 But if he gets starched tonight,
26:51 it's a different story.
26:53 Nice body work from Martinez.
26:57 Solomon digging deep here
27:01 on the ground.
27:03 Okay, I look tired.
27:09 This is a world title opportunity.
27:17 The first time that Jermaine Ortiz has...
27:19 Oh, I get a warning here.
27:21 Jermaine Ortiz is going to be fighting
27:23 for his first world title in our main event.
27:25 He's with our Mark Fregal.
27:27 Jermaine, has anything
27:29 surprised you about this week?
27:31 Not really, no.
27:33 Why not? We make a big deal.
27:35 Guy's never been here before. You act like you've been here
27:37 the whole time.
27:39 Mentally, physically, I feel like I've been here
27:41 my whole life. I've been preparing for this.
27:43 You'll probably be the bigger
27:45 fighter tonight. How can you use that to your
27:47 advantage?
27:49 Just bully him when I get the chance to
27:51 on the inside. You're still expecting
27:53 a knockout? Yeah.
27:55 What round? I don't know what round.
27:57 There you go.
27:59 We have a confident challenger,
28:01 Jermaine Ortiz.
28:03 I didn't hear no
28:05 confidence. What'd you hear?
28:07 I didn't hear no confidence.
28:09 Just a man monotone. We here to
28:13 knock him out. You know what I mean?
28:15 God, man. Come on, Ortiz.
28:17 He will be
28:19 in the main event.
28:21 Face your voice.
28:23 After those low blows at the end
28:25 of that seventh round, Celestino Ruiz
28:27 brings them both together and says, "Hey, keep it
28:29 clean here." In the eighth
28:31 and final round, Martinez goes straight to
28:33 the body. We remind you that our main
28:35 event will start
28:37 at 10.30 Eastern
28:39 with
28:41 Keyshawn Davis and Jose Pedraza
28:43 in the lead-up to our world title fight
28:45 between Tiofimo Lopez
28:47 and Jermaine Ortiz.
28:49 [crowd cheering]
28:51 This has been an inside fight, Tim,
28:57 which suits Solomon,
28:59 but Martinez has been getting the best of him
29:01 in the last few rounds.
29:03 He finally decided to let his hands go.
29:05 That's the reason why.
29:07 In that corner, you hear Robert Garcia saying,
29:13 "Javier, do this
29:15 for your son. His son is in the
29:17 building tonight."
29:19 Leonel
29:21 does everything in the ring
29:23 for his son. He says, "I want him to be
29:25 out of that environment that I grew up with,
29:27 grew up in, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin."
29:29 Ooh, that was a punch.
29:31 Although he said, "Stop, Tim,"
29:33 he said the right thing, but Solomon
29:35 did not stop.
29:37 No, he didn't.
29:39 Turning into a battle
29:43 of attrition. Nice combination there
29:45 from Solomon.
29:47 And then Martinez with a shot of his own
29:49 as Solomon turns him around.
29:51 [laughs]
29:53 Stop! Don't punch! Step back!
30:00 Bone booth type of fight, right?
30:02 Absolutely.
30:04 Each guy having their moments, going back
30:09 and forth.
30:11 Martinez could have made it a boxing match,
30:14 but he decided to make it a fight.
30:16 Run him into shots.
30:18 Now he's decided, you know, showboat me on
30:20 the outside and try to maintain distance
30:22 outside.
30:24 But I can say, you know,
30:30 Martinez seems to be spirited tonight.
30:32 He is spirited.
30:34 He is very spirited tonight.
30:36 He's talking. Usually you don't see him
30:38 talking inside the ring.
30:40 Maybe he's trying to motivate himself.
30:42 However, when he lets his hands
30:44 go, he's pretty,
30:46 he's pretty, I would say, accurate
30:48 and busy with those shots.
30:50 He's Barnheim and Mugia, but
30:52 nonetheless, he doesn't
30:54 show the power of a fighter like Mugia
30:56 tonight. He's only got three knockouts
30:58 in ten professional fights.
31:00 Nine wins and a draw.
31:02 That thing, that always comes back and haunts you.
31:06 You know,
31:08 especially when you don't have the boxing ability
31:10 to be able to deal with a
31:12 puncher in this division.
31:14 You see that bling on the left side of the screen?
31:16 That's Jared. It's a real big baby
31:18 Anderson in the house.
31:20 Is he in the house? Yeah.
31:22 Uh-oh.
31:24 This fight
31:26 is in the books. Xavier Martinez.
31:28 Did he do enough to keep his
31:30 unbeaten record on
31:32 the line? 9-0 and 1? Or did
31:34 Raul Solomon, who's 12
31:36 and 2, come in and upset
31:38 the fighter out of Milwaukee,
31:40 Wisconsin? You said it was a phone booth
31:42 match, Tim, and that's exactly what
31:44 we're going to see here. Yeah, it was a slow
31:46 start, honestly, for
31:48 Martinez. He really didn't get started
31:50 to midway in this fight. Hopefully
31:52 he didn't
31:54 lose a lot of those early rounds.
31:56 He had a good finish towards the middle. He started
31:58 letting his hands go, really digging down to
32:00 the body of Solomon and catching him as he
32:02 was coming in his spots.
32:04 Occasional uppercuts up the middle.
32:06 But an interesting selection
32:08 of a game plan to face
32:10 Solomon.
32:12 There were moments where I saw that Martinez
32:14 can actually stay on the outside and
32:16 use his boxing ability, but he
32:18 just chose to stay close
32:20 and work and fight Solomon
32:22 in his own game.
32:24 Solomon, to me, has been the consistent
32:26 fighter all night.
32:28 He had the same approach all the way through.
32:30 Really didn't change too many gears.
32:32 However, I'm interested to see what the
32:34 judges think, how they have it.
32:36 Absolutely. It's going to be an interesting
32:38 dynamic. I think he should have done
32:40 enough to take the victory, but I don't know.
32:42 Really? Is that close? I don't
32:44 know. I can
32:46 see four rounds apiece. I can see
32:48 Solomon
32:50 possibly. He's been the busier
32:52 fighter, pressing forward the whole night.
32:54 Again, wasn't a whole lot of activity
32:56 coming from Martinez. And then when he
32:58 decided to throw, he was successful.
33:00 I have it 5-3 Martinez,
33:02 but I'm not a judge. But there are
33:04 three judges that do matter, and
33:06 Mark Chanuk has their scorecards.
33:08 Ladies and gentlemen,
33:10 after eight rounds here inside the
33:12 Michelob Ultra Arena, we go to
33:14 the judges' scorecards for the
33:16 official decision.
33:18 Max DeLuca has
33:20 it 79-73.
33:22 Tim Cheatham and Glenn Feldman
33:24 both have it 78-74.
33:26 All in
33:28 favor of your winner by unanimous
33:30 decision,
33:32 Javier "Milwaukee"
33:34 May Martinez!
33:36 Javier
33:38 Martinez does indeed earn
33:40 his tenth victory as a
33:42 pro, and Raul Solomon
33:44 really put him to the test tonight
33:46 here inside the
33:48 Michelob Ultra Arena.
