The 2024 Skate Ontario Synchro Series #3 – Oakville event will feature Synchro teams from multiple provinces. This event is Provincial Championship qualifier for STAR 6 (Juvenile) and STAR 8 (Pre-Novice) and a non qualifying (invitational) opportunity for all other synchro categories including STAR 3 & 4 and Adult.

07:19 Let's take a look at some of their highlights.

07:45 We'll go right to the kiss and cry with these guys.
07:48 They look very happy with their performance.
07:51 This team has been busy this past month.
07:55 They spent the last three weeks traveling and competing in Europe.
07:59 First, they were at the Budapest Cup, where they finished fifth.
08:03 And then this past weekend, they were at the Hevelius Cup in Gdansk, Poland,
08:06 where they finished fourth.
08:08 [applause]
08:15 And you might be wondering why we have two categories here
08:18 with just one team, both Nexus and both categories.
08:22 Like we said previously, every time out on the ice for these teams is valuable.
08:27 Every time they learn something new, every time they go back to training
08:31 the next week with something to change and something to make better.
08:35 Especially with Worlds coming up at the end of the month--
08:38 or sorry, at the end of March, these guys are training as hard
08:42 as they have ever trained during the season,
08:45 and they're getting ready for their big goals here towards the end of the season.

14:10 from their skate to watch their teammates.

14:32 I love the idea of just using one song instead of a themed piece of music.
14:39 Really embody the character that the song--
14:41 really embody the character that the story of the song is telling.
14:47 And if you are watching at home wondering why we just watched
14:50 two senior Nexus teams back-to-back, the idea here is that there are only
14:54 12 skaters on the ice in the Elite 12 category with the hopes of making it
14:59 more palatable for the Olympics in the next cycle.

15:11 A really unique formation for their moves here.
15:13 You don't often see them done in a block like this.
15:16 That close proximity can be very dangerous.
15:18 Definitely blades close to the face, not for the faint of heart.
15:27 And using those twizzles to transition, change position.

24:25 Well, what a way to end off the night from Ice Ignite Jr.
24:28 They look incredibly proud of that performance, as they should be.
24:31 A really strong, clean, free program there from Ice Ignite.

24:39 So much dynamic choreography in this program.
24:42 It really feels like the team moves as a unit rather than individual bodies.
24:50 These lines coming around the corner were really strong, really straight.
24:55 [music]
24:58 And great lineup throughout their difficult choreography in their no-hold block.

25:12 Really seeing the skaters dig into their knees when they're doing those difficult turns.
25:16 That knee rhythm really helps them stay on deep edges when they're doing the turns
25:22 and helps them have higher quality of skating.
25:25 [music]
25:28 As we've been talking about this whole evening, those defined lines coming in and out of the box intersection.
25:33 The judges will love to see that.
25:35 And a mix of difficult positions and non-difficult positions here in their spin element,
25:40 which will be rewarded by the judges as well.

25:49 Deep intersection here.
25:54 No collisions.
26:00 And finishing with this wheel that had lots of power all the way through.
26:08 And there they are in the kiss and cry.
26:13 This team also is back from their international competitions this season.
26:19 Most recently they were competing at the Trophy de Casse in Dumfries, Scotland.
26:23 The team finished fifth overall and was actually awarded most entertaining performance of the day
26:28 for their free program that you just watched.

26:44 And similarly to our senior teams, this team may be the only team in their category this evening,
26:49 but they are looking for that exposure, that time out on the ice in front of an audience
26:54 to get used to performing, get used to that feeling of being out there on the ice
26:58 and developing a sense of comfortability with the program in its performance state.

27:32 And if you're wondering why the skaters are waiting for their scores a little bit here,
27:36 it may be just because the judges are reviewing an element over on their computers.

28:47 Also I have to commend these skaters for competing their short program and free program in the same day.
28:53 This is not typical of a junior competition, so it's been a long evening for these skaters
28:58 and I'm sure they will rest well tonight because that is a long evening and commend them for their efforts.
29:05 All efforts of our athletes, really.
29:07 This is not easy what you see them out there doing on the ice and it takes a lot of courage
29:11 and practice and time in and driving and parents and coaches and everyone in between.
29:16 So a big thank you to all of the people who make these events possible for our athletes
29:20 because as you can see, they enjoy them so much and we also enjoy them so much seeing them have that fun.
