Two British children born with partial limbs are the first to be fitted with Spider-Man bionic prosthetics developed with help from Marvel and Disney

Kaden Taylor and Safiyyah Uddin are now able to perform everyday tasks with their specially designed, 3D-printed prosthetics, designed to emulate their favourite superheroes.

The custom-made Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey Spider-Man bionic arms - developed by robotics company Open Bionics -, feature myoelectric sensors which detect muscular contractions generated from muscle groups in the arm.

00:00 I've got a robotic arm and it was a surprise from my mum and dad. It's a fantastic surprise.
00:13 I got two covers, a Spider-Man cover and a Black Panther cover.
00:19 I'm the first person in the world to get this Spider-Man cover. I think it's amazing how
00:39 they've made it like this, how clever it is.
00:45 I'm Colette, I'm Caden's mum. We were offered some plastic things, they didn't move, they
00:51 were just pretend fake hands. That was from when he was about one, I think it was. But
00:56 we didn't want him to ever be like, "You're different, you need to be the same as everybody
01:00 else with two hands." So we didn't decide to do any of the prosthetic side of it until
01:05 we got a bit older and he started to notice that he was slightly different to his peers
01:09 and stuff.
01:10 We gave him different options at different times but when we told him about this he was
01:14 like, "Wow, yes please, that would be amazing."
01:17 It's going to give him so much more opportunity to do stuff that he's been restricted from
01:23 doing before and stuff like that. Like just little things like knife and fork, putting
01:28 his ketchup on his food, just certain things like that. Being more safe riding a bike,
01:32 which you can ride a bike now but it just gives him that extra grip.
01:36 My favourite superhero is Spider-Man for sure.
