00:00 energy market operator who said 50% of these homes have had power restored but there are
00:07 still a lot of trees down on roads, a lot of branches, a lot of trees have fallen on
00:12 power lines.
00:13 Now there are also dozens of schools affected by these power outages.
00:16 A lot of kids cannot go to school today.
00:18 The worst affected areas there are in the central and the west of the state and also
00:22 in the southeast suburbs of Melbourne.
00:24 There are also mobile telecommunication towers that have been affected and there were some
00:30 people yesterday who struggled to call 000 and when I asked about that today the commissioner
00:35 said that they are aware of that and they are working on that but that is also something
00:39 to be aware of that some people are actually struggling to make calls and especially to
00:44 emergency services.
00:46 Now in terms of when this power is going to be back on for those hundreds of thousands
00:50 of people that are waiting, the Premier says that they are working really hard to clear
00:55 the roads.
00:56 There is significant damage statewide caused by those storms and much of it is localised
01:02 damage which is why your power may be out and I think if you can look out the window
01:07 or walk out the front door and see that trees are down across roads, trains are down and
01:12 impacting on power lines, that's probably why the power is out and why the teams are
01:17 out there undertaking the rapid assessments to get the power reconnected.
01:21 The Australian Energy Market Operator, AOEMA, said that in the next 36 hours they are expecting
01:27 a lot more power to come back on but this is something that could take days if not weeks
01:32 until all this power has been restored to these homes and in the meantime the Premier
01:37 says they'll work on getting generators and also support to those people who need it.
