00:00 Iggy, I have a question for you.
00:01 There's been a lot of talk about the overtime rules.
00:06 Can you hear me?
00:07 About the overtime rules.
00:09 Do you think Kyle knew the overtime rules?
00:14 I didn't hear that part.
00:17 Can you say it again?
00:21 This is tough.
00:22 Iggy, do you think Kyle knew the overtime rules?
00:25 No, I don't.
00:28 He keeps changing his story.
00:30 After the game, when he was initially asked by someone on TV why he did what he did, he
00:35 said, "Well, you know, I really hoped that we could have got that touchdown so that Mahomes
00:39 wouldn't have got another chance."
00:40 Well, no, that's the regular season rules.
00:42 If you score a touchdown on the first drive, then the other team doesn't get another possession.
00:45 But the Chiefs were going to get another possession one way or another.
00:48 So then he comes to us and he changes his story.
00:50 He says, "No, we wanted to have the third quarterboard, and then they scored, then we
00:55 get the ball last, and we can win the game."
00:57 And then he was asked, "Okay, well, fine.
01:00 Was your defense tired, and was that part of the decision-making?"
01:03 And he said, "No, absolutely not.
01:05 That is not why I decided to kick off."
01:07 That's what he said after the game.
01:08 Then today, John Lynch was like, "Well, you know, our defense was really tired, and that
01:13 was part of the reason why we decided to kick off."
01:14 Kyle's like, "That's right.
01:15 That's right.
01:16 Our defense was tired."
01:17 So they keep changing their story, which tells me that they're being interrogated, and they're
01:22 trying to figure out what works as they go along.
01:26 Maybe not knowing that the overtime rules isn't why they lost is just a bad look in
01:30 general.
01:31 Okay, so you were there and I wasn't.
01:35 So you're saying it seems fairly obvious that Kyle did not know the overtime rules because
01:42 he kept changing his story.
01:44 Okay, here's what I have to say about that.
01:48 First of all, he should have known.
01:51 He should have known the overtime rules.
01:53 I mean, whether or not that caused the loss, Andy Reid knew the overtime rules.
02:01 He told his players the overtime rules.
02:04 Many of the players afterward said they didn't know the overtime rules.
02:10 So clearly there was a difference on the Chiefs vis-a-vis that and on the 49ers.
02:17 That's a very bad look for the coach because the coach is the leader.
02:21 He's supposed to know these things.
02:23 And Iggy, he had a whole season to learn it.
02:26 He had a whole season to learn the rules.
02:28 I asked Brock Purdy today, I said, "Did you know before that final drive that there were
02:33 different rules in the overtime and the playoffs and that if you scored a touchdown, the Chiefs
02:37 were going to get another possession regardless?"
02:40 And he said he did know because right before that drive, he went up to Brian Greasy and
02:44 Greasy reminded him.
02:45 So Kyle Shanahan said that he told the position coaches to remind people, but I guess, I mean,
02:51 you could do that yourself.
02:53 And he should have done it before the game, not in the game.
03:00 Should have done it before the game.
03:03 So again, Iggy, it makes me think this is a leader?
03:09 This is a leader?
03:10 Also, I want to say something else about Kyle Shanahan.
03:14 So whether or not he knew the rules, I also think he lost his nerve.
03:19 He lost his nerve.
03:20 He's supposed to be this aggressive, cutthroat offensive coach.
03:25 So the final play of regulation is third and four.
03:30 He calls a pass.
03:32 It's incomplete.
03:33 They kick a field goal on fourth and four.
03:36 About on third and four, you hand the ball off to the offensive player of the year.
03:41 How about that?
03:42 You got a million runs in your playbook.
03:45 You got the best running back in football.
03:47 You got the best left tackle in football.
03:49 The best tight end in football.
03:51 Why don't you figure out a run that might work on third and four when the defense is
03:54 expecting pass?
03:56 And that way, if you don't pick up the first down, you got fourth and short, you could
04:00 do it again.
04:02 That would be the aggressive play.
04:03 And it'd be exactly what the Chiefs wouldn't want you to do.
04:05 I'm sure every time they called a pass for Christian McCaffrey, the Chiefs were upset
04:09 and worried.
04:11 So you could have done that there.
04:12 Then in overtime, you get the ball first.
04:15 It's third and goal from the nine.
04:16 Again, you call a pass.
04:17 It doesn't work out.
04:19 And you kick a field goal.
04:20 Instead of that, why don't you call a run on third and four and then go for it on fourth
04:25 down?
04:26 I mean, Kyle said today, well, it felt like a field goal game.
04:28 Dude, what are you talking about?
04:31 You know that it doesn't matter what the first three and a half quarters are like with Patrick
04:35 Mahomes.
04:36 Like, didn't you did this against Mahomes four years ago?
04:38 You held him down for three and a half quarters, and then he scored 21 points in about seven
04:43 minutes.
04:44 You can it's not a field goal game with Patrick Mahomes on the other side of the field.
04:50 You need to touchdown.
04:51 Thought you were going to win with the field goal.
04:53 That to me is is is the worst thing that Kyle did in this game.
04:56 He lost his nerve.
04:59 I can't argue with you.
05:00 This was not this was not something that really helped his resume, and he did it in front
05:07 of the whole world.
05:09 And and you know, there are some people out there, journalists and other people who are
05:13 defending him.
05:14 There's no defense.
05:15 He doesn't deserve a defense.
05:18 What's more.
05:19 The difference between winning and losing is not a little bit.
05:24 It's all the difference in the world.
05:26 He lost.
05:27 He lost in 2019.
05:29 He lost when he was in Atlanta.
05:32 When you lose three times in a row, you are a Super Bowl loser.
05:36 I'm sorry.
05:38 You're not a Super Bowl almost winner.
05:40 There's no almost winning.
05:42 He's he's he's a loser.
05:45 That is his definition.
05:46 I don't mean as a person or even as a coach.
05:49 He gets him into the championship game.
05:51 He gets twice, got him into the Super Bowl, but he's clearly demonstrably a Super Bowl
05:55 loser.
05:56 And that's not a little hurdle.
05:58 That's a big hurdle.
06:00 That's the Andy Reid level.
06:01 And he's not at that level.
06:03 Yeah, yeah, I want to say one of the.
06:07 Yeah, OK, go on.
06:09 I was going to say that, you know, when they lost to the Chiefs last time, the Chiefs were
06:14 favored in that game.
06:16 The Niners, the Niners quarterback was Jimmy Garoppolo.
06:18 They were a younger team.
06:19 I think it was easier to lose that game psychologically.
06:21 This time it's like we're favored to beat the Chiefs.
06:25 We still think we're better than the Chiefs.
06:27 Our quarterback is good.
06:28 He didn't mess it up.
06:30 How did we lose this?
06:31 How did we freaking lose this?
06:33 I think that's a that's a tough one.
06:34 And if you think about it for five minutes, your your mind goes to Kyle Sanian and he
06:39 knows it.
