01:07 Many Romans were turning to Christianity during Valentine's lifetime but Emperor Claudius
01:11 too was a pagan who imposed tight rules on what Christians could and could not do.
01:17 Claudius thought that Roman soldiers should be entirely dedicated to Rome.
01:21 Therefore he established a legislation prohibiting them from marrying.
01:25 Saint Valentine began marrying these warriors in covert Christian weddings which established
01:30 his reputation as a believer in the significance of love.
01:35 Valentine was eventually discovered and imprisoned for his crime against Claudius.
01:39 Valentine cared for his fellow inmates as well as his jailer's blind daughter while
01:44 imprisoned.
01:45 According to the legend, Valentine healed the girl's blindness and wrote her a love
01:49 inscribed from your Valentine before being beheaded.
01:53 Valentine was assassinated on February 14th, 270 AD.
