Inside Maude Apatow’s Relaxing New York Home

Today Architectural Digest is welcomed by actress Maude Apatow to tour her first New York apartment. The Euphoria star has always dreamed of moving to New York and doing theater, so when a chance to star off-Broadway came knocking she knew it was time to start her East Coast life. As far as first NYC apartments go, Apatow lucked out with plenty of natural light in her cozy 1-bed–a rare commodity in the Big Apple. With the help of Soho Home, Apatow has created a soft, feminine vibe accentuated by pastel pinks, boucle textures, and no shortage of cat-themed art, making it the perfect haven to relax after a big show. “If a younger version of me saw this, she would be freaking out. It’s been my dream since I was like, five.”See more of Maude Apatow's New York home here

00:00 Hey, AD.
00:03 I'm Maud Apatow.
00:04 Welcome to my home.
00:20 So this is my new apartment.
00:22 I just moved to New York this past January and I've always wanted to live here my whole
00:27 life.
00:28 I'm so excited and it's still a bit of a work in progress.
00:32 I saw this wallpaper and I just thought it was so pretty.
00:35 It feels like I'm like walking into a beautiful forest garden right when I come in.
00:41 So I really liked that.
00:42 I like the contrast from like being in New York and things are kind of hectic.
00:47 The second I get into my apartment, I'm like, "Oh, I can decompress."
00:50 Like I feel relaxed when I walk inside and I think that was probably my main goal with
00:55 the entryway.
00:56 I'd been looking for an apartment for a really long time and it looked so different when
01:01 I first saw it for the first time.
01:03 But I just kind of had that feeling like say yes to the dress, like you just know.
01:07 And I came inside and I was like, "It has a good energy."
01:10 And I think that's really important.
01:12 The area is beautiful and the light is good.
01:15 Just all the things that you look for in an apartment, I feel like this one had.
01:22 So, here's the living room.
01:31 Here's my cat tower for my cat, Dolly.
01:33 She's kind of bi-coastal just like me.
01:35 So we're back and forth.
01:37 She's not here right now, but she usually is.
01:39 And she likes to sit in the second one, as you can see, because there's lots of hair
01:42 in it.
01:43 Here's like my little dining room nook.
01:46 I usually have breakfast here and use this table also as a desk because, you know, in
01:52 these apartments, you got to make use of the space.
01:55 I've done minimal hosting here.
01:57 I've had maybe three friends over, but in the future I'll have more.
02:02 And cook and, you know, I just finished redoing my kitchen actually.
02:13 Here's the kitchen.
02:14 It's pink because I love pink.
02:17 I love the marble.
02:18 I loved this Calista unlacquered brass faucet.
02:22 I thought it was just really pretty and matched all of these doorknobs.
02:26 And I love the gold.
02:27 I thought the gold's really pretty.
02:29 I knew I wanted the cabinets to be pink, but I was like, how do I find a pink that's not
02:34 like super overpowering?
02:36 So I think I found a good one.
02:38 It's like a good light pink that's sort of easy on the eye.
02:42 Love these tomatoes.
02:44 I love heirloom tomatoes.
02:46 Can't wait to make a nice heirloom tomato salad, which will be easy because I've got
02:51 the goods.
02:55 These actually are my cookies.
02:57 They're Tate's and they're my favorite cookies.
02:59 This is my salt and pepper shaker.
03:01 There isn't any salt or pepper in it because I think it's more of, it's a decorative piece.
03:08 I thought it was so cute.
03:10 I don't even know what's in my kitchen.
03:12 I haven't been here and like, oh.
03:14 I do love some baked beans.
03:16 Always have those in the closet.
03:30 So when I do eventually host people, I'll probably make them a drink at this bar cart.
03:36 While you're making a drink, you can look at this gorgeous portrait.
03:40 It's painted by a German artist and I thought it kind of looked like me and I think people
03:45 when they come in do think it's like a custom painting of me.
03:49 My favorite cocktail is a martini.
03:51 So I have, oh, this is cute actually.
03:57 This just supplies to whip up a little martini.
04:01 Here's my couch.
04:03 It's actually underneath another beautiful painting of a woman who vaguely looks like
04:08 me surrounded by cats.
04:11 Like I just love all of these little details and like the cat's face.
04:15 If you zoom in, it's so cute.
04:18 The little whiskers like that.
04:20 All of these pieces here are so home and the carpet.
04:23 I loved this couch.
04:24 I thought it was just like really comfortable when I sat on it.
04:28 My boyfriend had COVID and I didn't let him sleep in my bedroom for obvious reasons.
04:33 And so he slept on the couch and he said it was very comfortable.
04:36 So it also can double as a bed for guests.
04:39 This chair I just think is really cute.
04:41 I liked it.
04:42 It swivels around.
04:43 It's a casual little thing.
04:45 It was always like my dream to move to New York and to do theater.
04:48 So earlier this year I came here and was doing theater and living here and I was just like,
04:55 I've peaked so now what?
04:57 But it's always been my dream so I can't believe it happened.
05:01 Honestly, it's crazy.
05:03 I'm extra happy in New York.
05:05 [upbeat music]
05:11 Okay, so here's my bedroom.
05:12 I really liked this sort of like pink wash on the walls and then the ceiling and all
05:19 of these lighter bits are also pink.
05:22 They're just a lighter pink.
05:23 And then this painting I bought from this artist, Dylan Reingold.
05:29 I love her art.
05:30 I think she's so talented and I don't know something about this like with the pink cheeks,
05:36 I thought it looked so pretty and so much like emotion in it.
05:41 Yeah, I really like gravitated towards this.
05:43 Here's my bed.
05:44 I've never had a king bed before and so I thought now that I'm an adult woman in my
05:51 first place, I'll have a king size bed.
05:54 And I usually sleep on one side of it so I might as well have a twin bed.
05:59 I love this bed frame.
06:00 This is also Soho home.
06:01 I don't know, it's really simple and pretty and just my goal with the bedroom was like
06:06 sort of a relaxing feeling and I definitely feel that when I'm in here.
06:11 The pink wash, it's kind of crazy how much it changes the entire vibe of the room.
06:16 I feel like because of that, I didn't feel like I needed to get too many art pieces.
06:21 I feel like just keeping it clean, like the wash of the wall is almost like an art piece
06:26 itself.
06:27 Yeah, I really love it.
06:28 It's just so calming.
06:29 [music]
06:36 This is my bathroom.
06:37 We have the same marble as the marble in the kitchen and then these are also the Calista
06:44 faucets that I have in the kitchen.
06:46 They're also in the towel rack.
06:49 The tile, I really liked the pink tile obviously but this is sort of like a little bit of a
06:54 darker, dustier pink so it's also very neutral but yeah, I mean it's pretty tight in here.
07:02 [music]
07:16 This has been fun but it's time to go.
07:19 So I'll see you soon.
07:20 Bye.
