00:00 First of all, I was like, I'm the most hated celebrity, like more than like Chris Brown.
00:05 Like, what did I do?
00:07 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the performers who have had
00:12 enduring careers despite blowback from fans and co-workers about their behavior or attitude.
00:18 Did document a couple times where you felt like she was unprofessional.
00:22 Definitely.
00:22 Number 10, Jared Leto.
00:24 The 30 seconds to Mars frontman has had many eras and worn many hats in one career.
00:29 He's even an Oscar winner for 2013's Dallas Buyers Club.
00:33 But it's his antics in pursuing his method that has rubbed some the wrong way.
00:37 To create the desired antagonism between himself and his castmates,
00:40 the Joker actor decided to mail them a series of elaborate and disgusting gifts.
00:45 He delivered dead pigs and many other unseemly things to their homes and rehearsal spaces.
00:51 Plopped it on the table, and then he walked out.
00:55 And that was our introduction into Jared Leto.
00:57 It seems excessive, especially since he was only in the movie for less than 10 minutes.
01:02 Viola Davis was more straightforward in her assessment.
01:04 I did not receive any personally or else I would have got my husband,
01:09 who was called a headache ball back in the day when he played football,
01:12 and I would have said, "Take care of the Joker."
01:14 She was most likely joking, but it was clear she wasn't amused.
01:18 All of that chit-chat's gonna get ya hurt.
01:21 Number 9, Amy Schumer.
01:23 Since finding fame with her explosive and expiditive-laden comedy,
01:27 Schumer has attracted criticism from all sides of the political spectrum.
01:30 So tell me why Trump has your vote.
01:32 Because I can't trust Hillary.
01:36 Okay, that's...
01:37 One fan took to Twitter to complain, "We came to laugh, not talk politics."
01:44 Whether this was because of misogyny or genuine criticisms
01:47 seems to depend on who it's coming from.
01:49 She's been outspoken about her feminist politics,
01:52 but critics have accused her of bias several times in her career.
01:55 So that surprised me how much hate I got from,
01:58 like, that, from wanting to make, like, you know, more sensible gun laws.
02:04 Schumer's also been dogged by allegations of plagiarism,
02:07 accused of stealing jokes from comedians like John Mulaney and Tammy Pascatelli.
02:11 She was criticized again in 2023 for a series of social media posts
02:15 in the wake of the October 7 attacks, which she later apologized for.
02:19 Despite all this, she continues to have a successful career in comedy and in films.
02:23 Number 8. Lena Dunham
02:25 Few Hollywood personalities rose as quickly as this writer-director-performer wunderkind.
02:30 We're professors, Hannah, professors.
02:32 We can't keep bankrolling your groovy lifestyle.
02:36 The daughter of two prominent artists, Dunham started out in short films
02:40 before HBO's Girls launched her into international stardom.
02:44 Her brand of narcissistic millennial comedy wasn't for everybody.
02:47 Do you really want all of his future lovers to suffer the same disease that you have?
02:50 No offense.
02:51 Yeah, but I thought you said it's not that big a deal.
02:53 No, it's like totally not that big a deal.
02:54 Girls was heavily criticized for its mostly white cast,
02:58 considering it takes place in New York, one of the most racially diverse cities in the world.
03:02 Dunham also landed in a series of controversies
03:05 based on comments she made both on social media and in her memoirs.
03:09 Not to be the girl who cried misogyny every day,
03:11 but people are always looking for reasons why women are successful.
03:15 They're like, oh, it couldn't just be that those girls were talented and got a part in a TV show.
03:19 After Girls, Dunham took a break from showbiz,
03:21 but has gone on to perform, write, or executive produce various films and shows.
03:26 I want to wipe that smug expression off your pale, patriarchal face.
03:32 OK, that is enough. We've indulged your tantrums long enough.
03:36 Number 7. William Shatner
03:38 His role as Captain James Kirk will forever cement him in the hearts of Star Trek fans.
03:43 He's a fan favorite, even if his acting could be termed excessive.
03:47 Either someone sent a message diverting us here,
03:49 or someone on board the ship lied about receiving it. Could that someone be Mr. Spock?
03:54 His colleagues on that show were mostly, notably less enthusiastic about Shatner the person.
04:00 George Takei, who played Lieutenant Sulu on the original program,
04:03 called the actor a quote "self-involved prima donna" in his memoir To the Stars.
04:08 Can you imagine Bill Shatner running down those corridors like Chris Pine did?
04:15 That's not a pretty sight.
04:16 Takei isn't the only one who's alluded to Shatner's backstage coldness.
04:19 Fellow Star Trek actors Walter Koenig, James Doohan, and even Spock actor Leonard Nimoy
04:25 all had their tensions with Shatner.
04:26 He wouldn't answer my calls. I wrote him a heartfelt letter saying how much I loved him.
04:34 It didn't stop him from enjoying a nearly 60-year career and counting afterwards.
04:39 You're never afraid to go after old Bill Shatner, are you?
04:42 What do you mean go after him? I'm calling as I see him.
04:44 He outranks you.
04:46 6. Gwyneth Paltrow
04:48 It's not her acting that makes her a lightning rod for criticism.
04:51 Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow has made several statements about health and wellness over the
04:55 years that seemed out of touch with the economic realities of everyday people.
04:59 We look for products that will create that kind of reaction.
05:03 But you know some people are going to really resent it.
05:05 Not only that, but some of the products launched throughout her lifestyle brand,
05:08 Goop, have been the subject of lawsuits.
05:10 I would personally love to know a little bit about the trajectory of using
05:15 psychedelics as a healing modality.
05:17 While her privilege may show more often than a lot of celebs, she still has her fans.
05:22 Like all things in show business, opinion sways back and forth.
05:26 Recently, a high-profile lawsuit against her made her an instant meme.
05:30 Well, I lost half a day of skiing.
05:33 5. Marlon Brando
05:35 You don't revolutionize American acting without breaking a few rules.
05:38 You never wanted my friendship. And you were afraid to be my dad.
05:44 Co-stars, directors, and other collaborators have been vocal throughout the years
05:48 about Brando's tendency to hold up entire movies with his ego, temper, and lack of preparation.
05:55 He never would learn his lines and he had Caroline as his assistant
06:00 read lines from the trailer into his little earpiece.
06:05 His Guides and Dolls co-star, Frank Sinatra, reportedly hated him with a passion.
06:10 His actions, and those of director Bernardo Bertolucci,
06:14 towards co-star Maria Schneider in Last Tango in Paris, led to serious accusations.
06:19 Brando is remembered for his groundbreaking work in so many landmark films,
06:23 but unfortunately, his overall reputation paints a less flattering picture.
06:28 In terms of our characters and how they relate, I'd love to have some time to do that.
06:34 And he said no.
06:36 4. Alec Baldwin
06:38 Few celebrities like the paparazzi. Even fewer let them know it as blatantly as Alec Baldwin does.
06:44 However, Baldwin's anger seems like a genuine problem.
06:47 You're the one that almost hit my wife with the microphone in the face.
06:50 I asked you a question. You want to apologize to her?
06:53 Arguments over paparazzi photos, parking spots, and putting away his electronic devices on a plane
06:58 have blown up into full-on media crises.
07:01 From his outspoken politics to his profanity-laden voicemail to his young daughter Ireland,
07:06 Baldwin has had a lot of his worst moments aired out for the public to witness.
07:10 It's good to be here. I almost didn't even know about it because I haven't checked my
07:14 voicemails from my dad for the last 12 years.
07:18 Apparently, he's not hated enough to not be welcomed back with open arms
07:22 when he makes fun of those worst moments.
07:24 However, the death of cinematographer Helena Hutchins on the set of Rust
07:28 gave social media users another excuse to unleash more criticism.
07:31 3. Chevy Chase
07:34 While he may have finally seen his career come to a halt when he was fired from Community,
07:38 Chevy Chase has been described as the bane of movie and TV sets for years.
07:42 Hey, you already know Brittles?
07:44 Britta?
07:44 Uh, Abed, Abed the Arab. Is that inappropriate?
07:47 Sure.
07:47 After his success in the early years of SNL, Chase embarked on a successful movie career,
07:52 which includes Caddyshack and the National Lampoon's Vacation Series.
07:56 Everybody come out quick, look at the lights!
07:58 Co-stars have characterized Chase as a ham and a showboat who is not just hard to work with,
08:04 but hard to be around in general.
08:06 I went up to him, I was like, "Chevy, I just want to say, uh, you know, I'm a big fan. I'm Rob Hubel."
08:10 And, um, Chevy just hauled off and slapped me across the face.
08:16 His challenging personality is such a known fact that his roast at the New York Friars Club
08:21 was one of the most vicious roast specials Comedy Central ever broadcast.
08:25 You make really thought-provoking movies.
08:27 The kind of movies that raise ethical questions like,
08:31 "Is it okay to ask for a refund at a dollar theater?"
08:35 Number 2. Lea Michele
08:37 Rachel Berry was Glee's resident terror.
08:40 She was selfish, spoiled, and entitled.
08:43 But surely Rachel Berry is just a character.
08:45 Don't tell me not to fly! I've simply got to!
08:48 If someone takes a spill, it's me and not you!
08:51 Well, not according to several of actress Lea Michele's castmates.
08:55 When major accusations, like threats to defecate in another actor's wig,
09:00 surfaced on social media, her co-stars didn't necessarily leap to her defense.
09:05 In fact, they've all been pretty tactful about it.
09:07 Would you say that your famous co-worker doesn't see race,
09:10 and is in fact rude to all of her co-workers?
09:12 I think that she would probably say she doesn't see race, but as we discussed earlier, everyone does.
09:18 But there were issues.
09:19 While this type of bad press may have ended other performers' careers,
09:23 Michele was actually on her way to her biggest triumph.
09:27 She took over the role she, and Rachel, seemed born to play,
09:31 Fanny Brice in the Broadway musical Funny Girl.
09:34 Michele's run after Beanie Feldstein left the role garnered great press and better reviews.

09:53 1. James Corden
09:57 It's not just that he was in some of the biggest musical bombs of the last decade or so.
10:06 It's not just that he berates restaurant workers.
10:08 It's not just that he doesn't know his own cameraman's names.
10:21 It's not even the joke-stealing accusations. It's, well, it's all of those things.
10:34 His sour attitude and alleged mistreatment of his production crew aside,
10:38 Corden hasn't had much luck capitalizing on his fame outside of his since-ended late-night show.
10:44 In fact, that may be part of the problem. He plays such a lovable guy on TV
10:48 that to hear he's anything different in real life just gives many the ick.
10:52 Which of these notorious celebs were you surprised to see here? Let us know in the comments.
