00:00 Armed Forces of the Philippines are working together with India
00:03 to strengthen the Philippines' capacity to defend its territories.
00:09 This is the surprise of Su Jin Kim.
00:11 18 Indian companies presented their aircrafts and marine structures
00:19 to the Philippine Armed Forces.
00:21 This is a support to our goal to strengthen the defense posture of our ports.
00:28 I think this is a critical component of our future defense partnership
00:32 because we recognize that countries such as the Philippines
00:36 which have broad national security interests
00:39 will need to have some domestic industrial capacity.
00:44 And we'd like to offer partnerships from India in building that capacity.
00:48 The Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines
00:54 currently rely on the sales of America, China, and Russia,
00:57 as well as second-hand aid that is distributed by some countries.
01:01 In the past, we used to buy them wholesale.
01:04 We buy it stock, lock, and barrel.
01:07 So we buy the equipment, import them, and then use them,
01:11 and somehow gain knowledge on the maintenance of this equipment.
01:16 But this time, the Defense Department is into indigenizing them.
01:21 For the acting president of the Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation, Raymond Mitra,
01:26 this partnership is more important because there are risks of war.
01:31 We are also contemplating and lobbying to our armed forces
01:36 to purchase also the Tejas, which is the fighter aircraft.
01:43 We are in the midst of geopolitical tensions.
01:48 So we really need an aircraft that can carry the BrahMos missiles.
01:53 The Ambassador of India to the Philippines said
01:56 that the desire of India and the Philippines to have a peaceful and peaceful region
02:02 especially if the two are democratically-owned countries.
02:06 India's message is that they want to help in a lower cost.
02:11 India's really unique selling proposition
02:15 is that we are able to bring cutting-edge technology at competitive prices.
02:21 He also added that it is important for them to help the country
02:24 to bring indigenous technology or the technologies that are being built
02:29 using the parts that came directly from the Philippines.
02:32 India has a proven track record of trying to create indigenous capability
02:38 to develop indigenous technology and to broad-base that into broader industrial capacities.
02:47 So we are willing to offer our experience.
02:49 The inclusion of indigenous technology in the local industry is good for the country's economy.
02:54 If the equipment is imported from the Philippines,
02:58 more Filipinos will be able to work.
03:01 At present, there are already ammunition, rifles, and pistols
03:04 that are imported from the country and are not being imported anymore.
03:07 Brigadier General Amante believes that drones will be the next step.
03:12 Especially since there are some schools that are building their own drones as part of the thesis.
03:17 The government is continuously looking for ways to keep the country and all Filipinos safe.
03:26 Soojin Kim for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
