00:11 You guys might be thinking about the new Harley Davidson X440, but no, there's a new motorcycle

00:19 Welcome to Drivespark, I'm Vedant Johari and this is the Hero Maverick 440.
00:25 Now before I take you guys around this motorcycle, let's talk about its price point.
00:32 Now the Maverick 440 is exceptionally priced, extremely aggressively priced and with this
00:38 pricing is definitely going to hit the market hard.
00:41 So the base variant of this is priced at Rs 1.99 lakhs and the top end variant, which
00:47 is what I have right in front of me, is priced at Rs 2.24 lakhs and now these prices are
00:52 ex-showroom.
00:53 So let's talk about the design of this new motorcycle.
00:57 But before that, everything that we get on this motorcycle is in metal, right from your
01:02 tank to your tank shrouds to your front mudguard to everything you see, except for your sideview
01:09 mirror, your instrument cluster and your tail tidy.
01:11 So now starting off with the actual design of the Hero Maverick 440.
01:16 Now at the front, we get this really nice circular headlamp with an H patterned TRL
01:21 located right in the centre and now all the lighting that we get on this is an LED lighting,
01:26 you don't get an ounce of any other sort of lighting except for obviously on your instrument
01:30 cluster.
01:31 So we have a normal headlight located at the bottom and a passing beam on top.
01:39 Now we have these two circular indicators with the Hero badging located right in the
01:43 centre.
01:44 We get a metal front guard, telescopic forks, 43mm telescopic forks and a 17-inch tyre with
01:50 diamond cut alloy wheels.
01:52 So now the front disc that we get is a 320mm frame and located on the side of our forks,
01:58 we have reflectors over here for added safety.
02:00 So now coming to the side design of the Maverick 440.
02:04 Now over here, we get these tank shrouds that are in this graphite finish and the graphite
02:10 finish with this, with this piano black finish just adds a whole lot of touch on this motorcycle.
02:16 Now the switchgear that we have on the Maverick 440 is premium, you don't feel any rattling
02:23 coming from the switches, it's very well placed, very well set, well calibrated and so now
02:31 on the right side of the motorcycle, we have a kill switch, an engine start switch, hazard
02:36 lights and an SOS button located right here.
02:40 And now this, something really cool about this SOS button is, as this bike is called
02:45 the Maverick, as many of you may know, Maverick is from Top Gun, he is one of the main pilots
02:53 and that is all about fighter jets.
02:55 So even this SOS button is like a flick up, you open it out and then you press it, just
03:01 like what we get in the fighter jets.
03:03 Then on the left side of the handlebar, we get our passing lights, our high beam, low
03:09 beam setting, our indicator and our horn and we also get the hero badging located on the
03:15 left side of the handlebar.
03:17 Now over here we get these crash guards that also work as leg protectors.
03:23 Beyond that, we get a cover for our exhaust over here, we get this nice hero badging on
03:28 the engine casing here, a nice black finished engine, the X-Torque badging here in this
03:34 goldish bronze finish, another panel located on the side, a beautifully sculpted tank,
03:41 13.5 litre tank located right here, with a 3D Maverick badging and the 440 written just
03:47 below that.
03:48 So then we also get the Maverick badging located at the centre of the tank and on the other
03:52 side of the tank as well.
03:53 Now on either side of the tank, we have the 3D badging, but in the centre of the tank,
03:59 it's just a plain old sticker that we get.
04:02 Then right in front of that, we get our tank cap and in front of that, in front of the
04:05 tank cap, we get a USB charging port.
04:10 Now moving on, looking at the, looking at just the tank, the tank starts off extremely
04:16 narrow over here and flares out, just giving your legs a place to actually sit comfortably
04:22 and to actually grip onto something for while you're riding.
04:27 Then we get a single piece seat over here that's sort of elevated for the pillion to
04:31 add comfort and then beyond that, on my side of the motorcycle, we also get a place to
04:37 open out your seat for storage.
04:41 Now at the rear, we get a twin shock absorber, again 17-inch tyres at the back and we get
04:47 a 240mm disc.
04:49 Now the braking that we have on this is dual channel ABS.
04:53 I'll come to how the brakes perform when I'm actually riding the motorcycle and showing
04:57 you, but otherwise you get dual channel ABS for added safety.
05:01 Now the side view mirrors that we have are circular and give a very, very classy look
05:05 to this new modern motorcycle.
05:08 So the ground clearance that we get on the Maverick 440 is 175mm and the seat height
05:14 that we get is 803mm.
05:16 Now I'll show you how this 803mm seat fares on someone my height.
05:22 I am 6 foot 1 and now let's go to the seating position on the Maverick 440.
05:33 So as you can see, I can rest my feet very comfortably on the ground, my legs aren't
05:39 straight, they're slightly bent and it's a super, super comfortable seating setup.
05:44 Now me being in the proper riding position, as I mentioned while talking about the side,
05:50 this cut on the tank provides good amount of grip for your thighs.
05:55 You don't feel them flipping around too much and you have somewhere to actually place it,
05:59 you don't feel weirdly placed on the motorcycle.
06:03 Then the footpegs that we have are neutrally set up, they aren't front placed nor are they
06:09 rear set, they're quite neutral and that makes the whole riding, the whole ride feel much
06:16 more comfortable.
06:17 Once my hands are actually on the handlebar, as you can see, I'm very upright, my chest
06:25 is flat out, my arms are widely placed and you have a very, very commanding position
06:34 on this motorcycle.
06:35 You feel like you own the road, honestly.
06:38 And with these wide set handlebars, the whole feel of the motorcycle is enhanced.
06:43 It looks so much better from the rider's perspective and it also adds a whole lot of aggressiveness
06:49 and a whole lot of brutalness for when someone is looking at it from up front.
06:55 All in all that, who has a seating position.
06:57 So now coming to the rear end of the Mavic 440, so you get this really nice grab rail,
07:04 super, super sturdy grab rail and beyond that we get the brake lights again in a sort of
07:11 H pattern depicting Hero's DNA.
07:16 Then we get this rear mudguard over here in plastic with these two indicators that we've
07:22 seen in the front.
07:23 A circular style with the Hero badging right in the centre.
07:27 Now coming to the exhaust of this, as you can see, it's not a fully up swept exhaust
07:32 nor is it a low slung exhaust.
07:35 It's sort of in between both and the exhaust note of this is absolutely wonderful.
07:40 This motorcycle sounds beautiful.
07:43 Now coming to how it performs, I'll show you that when I'm actually riding, but I'll speak
07:47 about the engine specs before that.
07:49 Now before I get to the engine specs, let's talk about the instrument cluster.
07:54 Now the instrument cluster on the Mavic 440 is a negative LCD display and that just enhances
08:00 the view even in harsh sunlight like this.
08:02 I don't need to struggle to actually see what's given there.
08:05 So what are readings do we get on this?
08:08 A side stand reading, you get a gear indicator, your speed and your RPM.
08:12 Now those four are very commonly seen in most motorcycles.
08:15 Then beyond that, you get two trip meters, you get your average fuel economy, you get
08:21 your range to MT, you get your odometer showing you how many kilometres you've actually travelled
08:26 on the motorcycle and you also get turn by turn navigation on the Mavic 440.
08:31 Now to get the turn by turn navigation on this, Hero has also given the top end variant
08:37 of the Mavic 440, the feature to connect to the motorcycle through the Hero Connect app.
08:43 So now through the Hero Connect app, we get a lot more features such as geo-fencing, vehicle
08:49 diagnostics to track your vehicle, then you can also get roadside assistance and a whole
08:56 lot more features through the Hero Connect app.
08:58 So now let's talk about the actual engine specifications on the Mavic 440.
09:04 So now coming to the actual engine specifications on the Mavic 440, it comes with a 440cc single
09:10 cylinder SOHC setup that is shared with the Harley-Davidson X440.
09:16 However, the only difference is the exhaust.
09:20 So the exhaust that we have on this is different, it sounds different and the whole exhaust
09:24 system is also different.
09:26 So this engine puts out 27 horsepower and 36 Nm of torque and most of the torque that
09:32 we get is within 2000 RPM as claimed by Hero.
09:36 But while riding it, we'll actually get to know and I'll show you where you can actually
09:40 feel the power come in.
09:42 So before I actually ride the motorcycle, let's take a look at the exhaust note of the
09:47 Maverick 440.
09:49 Now I'm going to show you the exhaust note on the Maverick 440 and after hearing that,
09:54 let us know what you guys think of the sound of this down in the comments below.
09:59 Starting up the motorcycle.
10:10 So as you could hear, it has a nice thumpy sound, a nice bassy note on the motorcycle
10:16 that sounds different from most single cylinders when actually revved.
10:21 It doesn't hurt the ears, it sounds quite soothing to be honest.
10:25 So now let's shift to the GoPro view and I'll show you how the bike actually performs on
10:30 the road and with the braking, the acceleration and everything you guys want to know.
10:39 So what's up guys, I am right now on board the Maverick 440 as you can see and now I'll
10:47 give you the riding impressions, how it accelerates, how it brakes, how the suspension setup is,
10:51 how it corners and how the bike basically fares when you're actually riding it.
10:55 So now as you can see I'm in this empty road, beautiful area.
11:00 Now let's start off with how the motorcycle accelerates as I'm at a standstill right now
11:04 so let's see how long it takes to get up to speed and how it actually performs.
11:08 So yeah, let's go.
11:11 So I mean now as you can see we're already doing 110 and for a bike that's not sports
11:29 oriented it's pretty quick.
11:32 It's not the quickest motorcycle but it's there.
11:34 Now let's see, coming into this corner, as you can see, corners really well, however
11:41 the footpeg I feel is a little bit low as it did scratch around that corner but other
11:48 than that it still really, it still held its own and even around these sweeping corners,
11:56 there's no discomfort felt on the motorcycle, there's no strain at all felt on the motorcycle
12:02 and so like that, as you saw, it takes it with ease.
12:08 So all in all the ride feel of this is superior, very very comfortable, I'm not at discomfort
12:18 at all, I'm sitting, my legs are perfectly suited for the tank, even if I have to move
12:27 in front for when I get onto some dirt sections, it doesn't make me uncomfortable.
12:33 So all in all seating position, handlebar, everything is extremely comfortable, I'm upright
12:40 and going for long journeys this would be an ideal seating position, no strain on the
12:47 lower back, no strain on the arms, nothing.
12:51 Now let's see how it brakes, so there's no one behind me, there's no one in front of
12:56 me so let's see how the bike brakes under a panic braking situation.
13:00 So I'm doing around 100km/h, a regular cruising speed, now to brake, so there you go, as you
13:09 saw, came to a stop pretty quick, I did feel the ABS come in a bit and hinder my front
13:17 brake use but then again, how often do you find yourself in a panic braking situation
13:22 and it also, it wasn't very intrusive where I didn't feel the bike stop, there was a little
13:28 lock up from the front wheel but I mean that's bound to happen under hard braking, but yeah
13:33 so that was the front brake, now let's see how the rear brake, I'll get back up to around
13:38 100 and we'll see how the rear brake holds us.
13:41 So yeah, so now I'm doing 100km/h, so let's see how the rear brake feels, again there's
13:56 no one behind me, no one in front of me, now let's see the rear brakes.
14:00 So the rear brakes I feel are pretty weak, definitely not that strong, I found the ABS
14:14 to feel, to be very intrusive over there, it didn't brake how I wanted it to brake and
14:20 the moment the wheel locked up, the rear brake lever just pushed my foot back up, so I feel
14:26 that's another place where the Maverick could do some improvement, the braking aspect, front
14:33 brakes are ok, not the best, rear brakes are definitely, definitely, I mean the rear brakes
14:39 definitely need some improvement, but then again, you really don't see yourself only
14:45 pressing the rear brakes so I guess you could dismiss that.
14:50 Now the suspension, let's see how the suspension of this motorcycle is, so as you can see now
14:57 I'm riding it and let's, now, as you see it, it is a little soft, it's definitely not on
15:05 the harder side, it's without a doubt on the softer side and it, wait, so the suspension
15:15 setup is definitely on the softer side of things, it's not on the harder side, there
15:24 is a lot of play from the front and the rear, even when I cornered earlier I did feel the
15:28 front to be a little loose, not as firm as I felt it should be, but then again it's not
15:34 a sports oriented motorcycle, it's made for comfort, it's made for cruising, so you really
15:39 can't expect it to have a stiffer setup, however if it was a few clicks tighter, it would be
15:49 a whole lot better, it would be a whole lot more comfortable to ride and you'll have a
15:54 lot more confidence cornering the motorcycle, yeah, so I mean that's the suspension.
16:05 So I mean yeah, that was the suspension setup, now acceleration was decent on the motorcycle,
16:12 braking was ok, not the best, not the worst, seat comfort is tremendous, the seat comfort
16:20 is out of this world, it's beautiful, extremely cushiony and with the whole footpeg handlebar
16:28 setup, the tank setup, your ride comfort is out of this world, absolutely out of this
16:36 world and even for those guys who like to like step on it and to like actually whack
16:42 the throttle open, get into the proper seating position, if you want to move to the rear
16:47 seat, it is possible, so let's see, I'll drop a gear now, let me just cross the bike over
16:53 here, yeah, I'm on a higher rev, hook my seat back and tuck it and go, I didn't look at
17:01 her, you have a place to tuck it and also just whack open the throttle, so yeah, so
17:08 let's see your top speed run also.
17:18 People on the road, so yeah, I'm doing again, I feel the sweet spot of this motorcycle is
17:25 around 85, somewhere from 85 to 105 km/hr, maybe, maybe I'll push it to 110 to call the
17:40 sweet spot but beyond that, you do feel vibrations, so let's see, so now I'm over 4000 revs and
17:46 I'm feeling vibration on the tank, handlebar, footpegs, so this is a pre-production motorcycle,
17:52 so maybe for the production version, Hero will work on this but as of now, I do feel
17:58 a lot of vibration comes from where I keep my, my thighs on the tank, on my handlebar
18:03 and on the footpegs.
18:05 So here's a dirt path, now, well it's not bumpy enough, okay, so, so we're on a dirt
18:15 path right now, so the suspension setup is decent, it's not the best but it's really
18:20 soft, very, very soft I'd say, power on the Maverick 440 kicks in at around 2000 I'd say,
18:28 2500, 3000, let's actually see, so as you can see the dash also, even in this harsh
18:35 sunlight is super visible, I don't need to struggle and the, the RPM meter that we have
18:41 is not a full analogue, it doesn't show you all the numbers, it's only 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and
18:47 let's see where, around where the power really kicks in, so let's go, let's take it here.
18:54 So I feel the power kicks in at around the 4000 mark, around the 4000 mark, 4,500 mark
19:10 but then it drops down soon after, it's, it's not a very long powerband, it's a relatively
19:15 short powerband, but again, as I mentioned multiple times in this video, it's not a sports
19:22 oriented motorcycle, it's a, it's a bike to cruise on, it's a bike to go for your long
19:29 journeys, so you really don't need a brutal amount of acceleration on this motorcycle.
19:34 So all in all, those were the riding impressions of the Hero Maverick 440, I hope you guys

19:44 So now coming to the variants on the Maverick 440, well, you get three variants on this,
19:49 the low variant, mid variant and the top variant.
19:53 This right in front of me is the top variant, this is priced at Rs. 2.24 lakhs ex-showroom.
19:59 Now the top end variant of the Maverick, we get the diamond cut alloy wheels, we get the
20:04 Hero Connect app and we get this black paint finish.
20:07 Now the black paint finish is only available on the top end variants, we get the gloss
20:11 black paint finish which is this and we also get a matte black plain finish.
20:15 Now coming to the mid variant, the mid variant doesn't get the diamond cut alloy wheels,
20:19 instead it gets regular alloy wheels and in the mid variant, we also get the blue paint
20:25 scheme and the red paint scheme.
20:28 Now coming to the low end variant, the base variant of the Hero Maverick 440, well that
20:33 doesn't get diamond cut alloys nor does it get regular alloys, that gets wire spoke wheels,
20:38 weighs 4 kgs heavier and comes in only the arctic white paint scheme.
20:43 It doesn't get the Hero Connect app and it misses out on most of the features.
20:48 But the base variant is priced amazingly at Rs. 1.99 lakhs ex-showroom.
