00:00 Katarina Carroll, her current contract as Queensland Police Commissioner, it ends in
00:07 July of this year, but there's no doubt that there are some within the Queensland Police
00:11 Service that would like her not to continue in this role beyond her current contract.
00:16 A contact I have been speaking to this morning says that she has lost the faith in some of
00:23 the Queensland Police Service members.
00:25 Some don't have confidence in her anymore, that they're not happy with the power of separation,
00:31 the separations of power I should say, as it currently stands, and that she does not
00:36 push back enough against the government when it comes to fighting for matters that can
00:41 make the jobs of Queensland Police much easier.
00:44 But Katarina Carroll, she has released a statement this morning.
00:48 I'll read that to you now.
00:49 "I have yet to have formal discussions about my contract with the government.
00:53 However, they will commence in due course.
00:56 Ahead of those discussions, I have been considering my options, with one of those being that I
01:00 may not seek an extension to my contract as Commissioner."
01:06 Katarina Carroll, Gemma, she has been in the job as Queensland Police Commissioner since
01:11 2019.
01:12 Before that, she was the head of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
01:15 She was the Commissioner there.
01:17 She's been a police officer since 1983.
01:19 She was the first woman to be named the Queensland Police Commissioner and has had, obviously,
01:26 a very decorated career.
01:28 We have heard also from the Queensland Police Minister, Mark Ryan, this morning.
01:32 He's released a statement really praising the Police Commissioner in the job that she's
01:37 done for Queensland through some difficult times.
01:40 He also says, "I speak to the Commissioner on a daily basis and I have told the Commissioner
01:46 that if she was to seek an extension of her contract, then I would be supportive of that."
01:51 So he's backing the Commissioner to continue in her job if she would like to do so.
01:56 He says that they speak on a daily basis.
01:58 So look, I'd say today, they will certainly talk about what we're talking about this morning.
