00:00 The school year ended early for public elementary and high school this year.
00:05 According to DepEd, this is part of the transition so that the school opening will return to June.

00:16 The call is strong to return to the old Marso, the vacation of the children and June is the back to school.
00:23 A call heard by DepEd and the community.
00:26 Because this is what people really want, we decided that we should go back but we have to do it gradually
00:32 so that it will not affect us because we are in learning recovery mode now.
00:36 In the department order issued by DepEd yesterday,
00:40 May 31, 2024 will be the last day of the class in public elementary and high school.
00:46 It is earlier by two weeks compared to the end of 2023.
00:51 We adjusted the current school calendar so we will now be ending by May 31.
00:57 That is our last day of the school calendar for this school year.
01:02 After that, the school break will start from June 1 until July 28
01:07 because our first day of classes would be July 29, 2024.
01:12 This is for the next school year.
01:14 Because of this adjustment, the number of children in the school year 2023-2024 decreased by 7 school days.
01:23 Actually, when we counted, we still have 179 school days this year.
01:28 So, it is not that bad that we lost.
01:31 There are two reasons why the vacation wants to return to Marso.
01:35 First, the children cannot concentrate in the hot school in the heat of summer.
01:42 Second, the schools will have to operate in the heat because of electricity and water costs
01:49 based on the consultation of DepEd.
01:53 In the school year 2024-2025, the vacation is already May 16.
01:58 In 2026, the vacation is already April.
02:01 The vacation will return to Marso in 2027.
02:06 Private elementary and high school are free to change their school calendar.
02:13 Our private schools have a leeway to follow us or have their own opening of classes
02:20 or dates for opening of classes in the end of school year.
