Transcript
00:00 Benjamin Haddad is deputy of the French National Assembly. He says China and
00:04 France have had a close relationship this year.
00:07 I think we have a robust relationship that's based on the trade ties but also
00:13 I think on a frank dialogue on issues related to human rights, the security of
00:18 the South China Sea. France has really made it that Europe I think has a
00:25 balanced partnership with China. You know the European Commission a few years ago
00:29 said that China is a partner when it comes to global issues such as tackling
00:35 climate change. It's also an economic competitor at times but it can also be a
00:43 rival, a systemic rival when it comes to the areas of governance. I think it's
00:47 important that we continue to keep this relationship, that we make it frank also
00:51 about our disagreements whether it's on trade or human rights or security issues
00:55 but we continue to talk on a regular basis and this is what President Macron has
01:00 been doing with his European partners with China.
